A Rivendell String Quartet Arrangement - The Pop Standards SeriesWhile the fourth musical collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, The King and I (1951) featured many wonderful numbers, one lyrical ballad stands out:  I Have Dreamed.  This beautiful melody was also prominently featured in Aaron Sorkin's 1995 file The American President during the State Dinner scene when widowed President Andrew Shepherd (Michael Douglas) dances with lobbyist Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Bening).  A magical film moment! This well-known song is a great choice for weddings, receptions, and anniversaries.[The audio sample begins at Letter B, measure 21]Like us on Facebook:  www.facebook.com/rivendellarrangements.

Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1177300 Composed by John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Matthew Nunes. 19th Century,Chamber,Historic,March,Patriotic. 322 pages. Matthew Nunes Music #777309. Published by Matthew Nunes Music (A0.1177300). Includes 17 Marches:Review, The Honored Dead, Revival, Across the Danube, Esprit De Corps, On the Tramp, Resumption, Globe and Eagle, Our Flirtation, Recognition, Guide Right, President Garfield’s Inauguration, In Memoriam, Right Forward, The Wolverine, Yorktown Centennial, Congress HallThese Brass Quintet arrangements were made using “The President’s Own†United States Marine Band’s The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa scores as found at https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/. Section titles (such as “First Strain†and “Trioâ€) follow the measure numbers provided by that edition. Each instrument follows its full-band part as often as possible, the only exception being Trombone covering the Euphonium/Baritone part. Because of this, Euphonium/Baritone would make a suitable substitute. Volume 1 is a collection of Sousa’s earliest efforts of march composition, from 1873 to 1882. Here we witness experimentations in form, key, and construction as the later-dubbed “March King†hones his stride. These arrangements are intended for concert and ceremony alike, enabling brass players to enjoy and share one of their champions.

Concert band - Grade 3 - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CBW141 Composed by Daniel Baldwin. Score and Parts. 89 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CBW141. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CBW141). 9 x 12 in inches.Escape Velocity was commissioned in honor of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Kansas Bandmasters Association. This was a special honor to be sure, but what made this commission so much more special to me was that the President of the Kansas Bandmasters was my former high school band director. I can safely say that my experience with him is the reason I chose music as a career. To write a piece for this prestigious organization was the thrill of a lifetime for me.In writing Escape Velocity, I envisioned the journey of a rocket ship entering space. It begins with the launch and all of the dangers and excitement of the ascent. Resistance is met while trying to escape Earth's gravity before finally reaching orbit. Space is beautiful and its majesty and wonder is reflected in the music. The conclusion depicts the reentering of Earth's orbit and the final descent to splashdown. I envisioned this piece to be more of a tone painting than a programmatic work, though I'm sure it would work just fine to have a video of a space launch projected in the background of your performance!Escape Velocity was commission by the Kansas Bandmasters Association, Dennis Kerr, President, and was premiered on July 19th, 2013 by theKBAMiddle Level Honor Band with Richard Saucedo conducting.

Saxophone Ensemble,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755338 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. 81 pages. Sy Brandon #6619959. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755338). Hope Collage was commissioned in honor of Hope College's 14th President, Matthew Scogin. President Scogin was inaugurated in 2019 and exemplifies the qualities of hope represented in this piece. The first movement Castles In The Sky is in 6/8 meter with some of the syncopated rhythmic figures that pit 3/4 against the 6/8. The major tonality is disguised by chromaticism either in the melody or in the counterpoint and harmony. The form is basically AB with a Coda. The slow second movement A Light at the End of the Tunnel has the tenor and baritone saxophones representing the darkness of the tunnel using minor and slightly dissonant harmony. The light at the end of the tunnel is represented by the alto and soprano saxophones. Even though they are still in minor, their brightness and rising arpeggios represent a glimmer of hope. By the time the movement nears the end, optimism has taken over and the entire ensemble is in shifting major tonalities leading up to the quiet, yet, prayerful end in B major. The third movement Knock On Wood has a Scherzo quality and is at an allegro tempo. The opening theme sets the tone of optimism with its combination of quartal, quintal, and triadic harmony along with staccato articulation. It is answered by the saxophones doing rhythmic slap tongue in a pyramid formation that represents knocking on wood. The theme and its variations alternate with the slap tongue throughout most of the movement. In several places, the theme and slap tongue appear in canon. Towards the end, the theme becomes fragmented and the slap tongue dominates. The fragments become pieced together leading to a final outburst of 16th note joy before the last chord. The movement ends with foot stomps that rhythmically suggests knock on wood. The last movement Promised Land is in two parts. The first is meditative and prayer-like in a moderate tempo. It has a passacaglia bass line and contrapuntal lines are added above it. It also grows in intensity until it reaches the Allegro, which is the second part and is celebratory. The Allegro begins with a sixteenth note motif that plays an accompaniment role in many places throughout the last section to the slower moving declarative lines. Near the end, motifs from the Moderato section are transformed in the Allegro, therefore linking the two sections.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1504155 By George Shearing Quintet. By Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Standards. 81 pages. John Ivor Holland #1079611. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1504155). 'Have You Met Miss Jones?' is a song from the 1937 Broadway musical I'd Rather Be Right, a Depression-era political satire set in New York City about Washington politics and political figures such as President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The plot centres on Peggy Jones and her boyfriend Phil, who needs a raise in order for them to get married; the President ultimately steps in and solves their dilemma. This jazz standard has been covered by many artists over the years, including George Shearing, Anita O'Day, Frank Sinatra, Robbie Williams and Seth MacFarlane - it is also cited as a potential inspriation, in its bridge passage, for saxophonist John Coltrane. This arrangement has been created from the jazz combo version by Michael Philip Mossman and features short solos (with suggested lines and chords) for clarinet, flute, trumpet and alto sax, with drum breaks towards the end.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bass Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1185254 By Pavilo Chubynsky, Mykhailo Verbytsky. By Pavilo Chubynsky, Mykhailo Verbytsky. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. 19th Century,Chamber,Historic,Patriotic. 9 pages. Chicory Music #784938. Published by Chicory Music (A0.1185254). In 1992 the Ukrainian Parliament chose as the national anthem music composed in 1863 by Mykhailo Verbytsky, a western Ukrainian composer and Catholic priest. Verbytsky originally wrote the score as a solo song and later for orchestra to accompany a patriotic poem written in 1862 by Pavlo Chubynsky, a prominent ethnographer in the Kyiv region. In his poem Shche Ne Vmerla Ukrayina (which means Ukraine is not yet dead), Chubynsky expressed the mixture of hope and desperation felt by Ukrainians over their continuous struggle to rule their own land. Widely sung around the country as the Hymn to Ukraine, both the melody and lyrics were similar to those of Polish and Serbian anthems. In 1917 it became the anthem of the short-lived Ukrainian National Republic, but during the Soviet era it was replaced. Over time there were various changes and additions to Chubynsky's original words, resulting in several slightly differing versions of the Hymn to Ukraine. Following independence in 1991, many Ukrainians were disatisfied with the pessimistic tone, so the Ukrainian government made the Verbytsky score official but hesitated to approve the Chubynsky's lyrics. A comission sponsored contests for replacement lyrics, but none were decided on. Agreement finally came in 2003, when the Parliament passed and the President signed an act recognizing a slight change to the version of Chubynsky's lyrics that were usually sung. Only the first stanza and the refrain (which is sung twice) were approved in President Kuchma's official proclamation This arrangement for Clarinet Quintet, in the woodwind friendly key of g minor, is easily accessible to those students who play at the Intermediate Level. Artist of Note, Inc. #822125. Published by Artist of Note, Inc. (A0.1226101). TAPS  A Remembrance   Bb Solo Trumpet, Narrator, Piano/Organ/Orchestra, optional SATB Choir  > 2:00TAPS - A Remembrance is ideal for the kinds of brief but important Memorial Day and/or Independence Day observances so often called for in our time. The poignant narration recalls the story of United States Army Sergeant Keith Clark playing the bugle call know today as Taps for the interment of President John F. Kennedy (November of 1963). As author William Manchester later wrote, “The 6th note of the 24 he played seemed like “a catch in your voice or a swiftly stifled sob†that the whole world heard, and that remains part of our national heritage. The background arrangement (optionally with chorus) heightens the emotion of the story until both give way to a regulation trumpet solo version that includes the grace note error and fades at the end. The orchestration is done in a 4 Part + format that lends itself to optional performance by any section of the orchestra (originally for brass alone). The choral octavo carries the complete narration (also see below) with accompaniment (playable by/adaptable to organ) and the solo trumpet part (all that’s really needed to perform the piece) along with permission to reproduce the octavo for optional choir/ensemble.The choral writing involves divisi only at two easily sung cadence points. And, it can be performed by just the brass and the narrator. For those who may not know the story:CBS News video of A Bugle Call Remembered Gathering 11/16/2013  [01:15]  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3u2qKWQ8io----NARRATOR:  Since the mid 1800s the bugle call known today as Taps has heralded rest for the weary, as well as comfort and encouragement in times of deep personal and collective grief.** music beginsAt about 3:00 p.m. on November 24th 1963, as the nation mourned the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, United States Army Sergeant Keith Clark raised his bugle at Arlington National Cemetery [† with thoughts of I Corinthians 15:51 in mind, “The trumpet shall soundâ€].Clearly broadcast throughout the country and around the world, the 6th note of the 24 he played seemed like “a catch in your voice or a swiftly stifled sob†as author William Manchester put it. Key Signature: C♯ minorTime Signature: 12/8Tempo: Moderato assai (very moderately (126))Difficulty: AdvancedNikolai Vasilievich Artsybushev (Russian: Ðиколай ВаÑильевич Ðрцыбушев; 7 March [O.S. 23 February] 1858 – 15 April 1937) was a Russian jurist, music publisher and promoter, and minor composer. His name is sometimes seen as Artsibushev, Artsybuchev, Artzibushev, Artzybushev, Artchibousheff, Arcybusev, etc.Artsybushev was born at Tsarskoye Selo in 1858. His legal studies were at the Imperial School of Jurisprudence in Saint Petersburg, after which he practised in St Petersburg as an attorney. He also dabbled in music composition, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov gave him private lessons in music theory after Mily Balakirev said his works showed some promise. He also became acquainted with the music publisher Mitrofan Belyayev and participated in his regular weekly gatherings called Fridays (Vendredis). To mark these occasions, a group of 10 composers including Artsybushev collaborated on a 16-part suite for string quartet, called Les Vendredis. His contribution was a Serenade in A major. He also collaborated with others on Variations on a Russian Theme, in versions for both string quartet and orchestra. He was a member of the St Petersburg City Council. After Belyayev's death in 1903 he became chairman of the board of the Belyayev publishing house, in which capacity he had significant dealings with Alexander Scriabin. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.733535 Composed by Amy J. Snyder. Blues,Concert,Jazz,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Amy J. Snyder #3048041. Published by Amy J. Snyder (A0.733535). Remember the 80's? One of my favorite memories was President Ronald Reagan, a well-loved man that made America a better place. This song is a tribute to our former president. Written in C minor, this late intermediate piano solo is a fun jazz/blues piece played in a swing rhythm complete with fingering, triplets (quarter, eighth, and 16th note), grace notes, and left hand broken octaves that walk up and down the bass section of the piano. The bridge changed to the relative Major of Eb and is an old-time (Happy Days style) rock-n-roll. I think you'll have a lot of fun playing this piece as well as getting some toes tapping. Great for recitals, Assisted Living entertainment, and just for fun. Copyright 2010 by Amy J. Snyder.
