String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.723596 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by Steve Winstead. Children,Concert,Halloween,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 30 pages. Sigma Squared Music #6209245. Published by Sigma Squared Music (A0.723596). Containing two of Grieg's most famous melodies, the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46 is a work in four movements. The iconic Morning Mood sets a tone of awakening, which is followed by the slow and dark Aese's Death. The lilting Anitra's Dance provides a jovial aside before the suite finishes with the instantly-recognizable In the Hall of the Mountain King. The piece in its entirety will round out any type of recital or formal event, and the individual movements can be used to fill out themed activities.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1021623 Composed by Tyler J. Holt. Contemporary. Score and parts. 3 pages. TJHoltMusic #6137183. Published by TJHoltMusic (A0.1021623). Miniature, Op. 16 is composed for Violin and Viola. I entered this piece into a Miniature contest on Composersite but never had further contact with the proctors aside from the fact that they received the piece. I continued with the piece regardless to not only write exclusively for the stringed instruments, a feat I have not done previously at that point, but also experiment with as many textures as I could in the allotted time. I wrote this piece in binary form so that I could finish it quickly and enter it into the contest the same day. From conception to completion and submission, this piece was finished in 1 hour.Composed by Tyler J. HoltPublished by TJHoltMusicCopyright © Tyler J. Holt, Composer

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1140167 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Jacob A Smith. 20th Century,Folk,Rock. Score. 2 pages. Jacob A Smith #740423. Published by Jacob A Smith (A0.1140167). Alice's Restaurant Massacree, commonly known as Alice's Restaurant, is a satirical talking blues song by singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie, released as the title track to his 1967 debut album Alice's Restaurant. The song is a deadpan protest against the Vietnam War draft, in the form of a comically exaggerated but largely true story from Guthrie's own life: while visiting acquaintances in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, he is arrested and convicted of dumping trash illegally, which later endangers his suitability for the military draft. The title refers to a restaurant owned by one of Guthrie's friends, artist Alice Brock; although she is a minor character in the story, the restaurant plays no role in it aside from being the subject of the chorus and the impetus for Guthrie's visit. The song was an inspiration for the 1969 film also named Alice's Restaurant, which took numerous liberties with the story. The work has become Guthrie's signature song and he has periodically re-released it with updated lyrics. In 2017, it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or artistically significant.

B-Flat Trumpet,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548515 Composed by Wade. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3388127. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548515). O Come All Ye Faithful arranged with new harmony for the final verse. Score: 3 pages, part: 1 page. Trumpet in Bb O Come, All Ye Faithful O Come, All Ye Faithful is an English translation of the Latin Christmas carol Adeste Fideles. No one knows exactly who wrote it. One theory holds that King John IV of Portugal (1604–1656) wrote it. Another theory says John F. Wade or John Reading wrote it. Nowadays, we usually attribute it to John Wade. Seems like Stonyhurst College in Lancashire owns the oldest manuscript. It is from the year 1751. Lyrics Frederick Oakeley, a Catholic priest in 1841 wrote the English translation. This translation is probably the most common in the English-speaking states. To begin with, the hymn had only four verses. Later, the verses grew to eight. Music directors often cut various verses because otherwise, the song goes too long. Some believe that St. Bonaventure wrote the first Latin lyrics. Others hold that King John IV of Portugal is responsible. Yet even others think the Cistercian monks wrote them. King John IV His subjects called King John IV of Portugal The Musician King. He became king in 1640. In addition to performing the duties of a king, he composed and wrote as a music journalist. King John built a very large music library. Unfortunately, the massive earthquake of Lisbon ruined the library in 1755. In addition to building his library, the king started a Music School that produced many accomplished musicians. The king also worked diligently to get instrumental music approved by the Vatican for use in his churches. Aside from his authorship of Adeste Fideles, he is famous for another popular choral setting of the Crux Fidelis, a prevalent Lenten hymn. Performance in Context Verses are sometimes left out because all eight verses would take too long to perform. More to the point though, some of the verses may be unsuitable for whatever of the church calendar they are intended. The eighth verse deals with the Epiphany, so it makes sense to sing this on Epiphany Sunday, but not other Sundays. Similarly, other verses are used according to whether the event is Midnight Mass or regular daytime Mass.  Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon,Double Reed Quartet,English Horn - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266448 Composed by Solage. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Holiday. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #859185. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1266448). Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work in the history of medieval music. Here are some of its historical significances:1. It is one of the twelve surviving works attributed to Solage, a French composer who lived in the late 14th century. Solage's works are known for their complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and expressive melodies.2. Le basile de sa propre nature is a four-voice ballade that features a text about the mythical creature known as the basilisk. The lyrics describe the basilisk as a monster that kills everything it sees with its deadly venom. The music is characterized by its intricate rhythms and harmonies, which reflect the text's vivid imagery.3. The ballade is preserved in the Chantilly Codex, a manuscript that contains a collection of French secular music from the late 14th century. The Chantilly Codex is one of the most important sources of medieval music, and it provides valuable insights into the musical practices of the time.4. Le basile de sa propre nature is an example of the Ars subtilior style, which was a highly experimental and complex musical style that emerged in the late 14th century. This style was characterized by its use of intricate rhythms, complex harmonies, and unusual notational practices. The Ars subtilior style was highly influential in the development of later musical styles, and it remains an important part of the medieval musical canon.Overall, Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work that reflects the complex and experimental musical practices of the late 14th century. Its vivid imagery, intricate rhythms, and complex harmonies make it a valuable contribution to the medieval musical canon.Lyrics:All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. He is a monster of great power,And he is feared by all who know him.He is a creature of the earth,And he is a master of death. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a creature of the night,And he is a master of the dark.He is a monster of great might,And he is feared by all who hear his name. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly.Solage was a French composer and probably also a poet who lived in the late 14th century. He composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior, a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the century. Solage is an obscure composer, and aside from what can be deduced from the pieces attributed to him in the Chantilly Codex, nothing else is known about him. There are several interpretations of his name, and it is not clear whether his first name was Jean or Charles.  The ars subtilior was a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the 14th century. It was characterized by complex rhythms and pitch, and it was a transitional period between the late medieval and Renaissance periods. Solage was one of the composers who fit into this school, and he composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior. Stylistically, Solage's works exhibit two distinctly different characters: a relatively simple one usually associated with his great predecessor and elder contemporary Guillaume de Machaut, and a more recherché one, complex in the areas of both pitch and rhythm, characteristic of the ars subtilior.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1144426 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,Chamber,Contemporary. 19 pages. Studio at the Post #744751. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1144426). Score only (see A744757 for Parts) Duration: 9-10 minutes, 16 pp. Duration: Description: (According to the composer) Six Frames for String Quartet was written when I was 23 years old. It represents my first best attempt to push out into that world of experimental musical techniques that fascinated me. In 1980 it was selected as part of the Young Audiences Program and performed throughout the Cleveland area elementary and high schools. The piece is intended to be like “sonic photographs†each of a different subject. But all I remember was that the opening musical gesture was of a car crash from a dream, though in fact, aside from fender benders, I don’t recall having been in such sonically graphic accidents.

Ob. Cl. Bsn. - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM511 Composed by Graham Nelson. Oboe Clarinet and Bassoon. Score and Parts. 19 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM511. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM511). ISBN 9790570484102.My fascination with the timbral qualities and myriad colours of the woodwind family was the stimulus that led to the creation of these two short pieces for this combination. Composed a number of years ago, both have been revised in the light of experience gained over the passage of time. Aside from the fanfare-like opening, each Miniature is cast in ternary form. The harmonic language could best be described as neo-tonal but with a chromatic twist (notably in the second). Melodic opportunities are shared consistently between the three instruments, often being extended by imitative interplay or antiphonal exchange (especially in the first). A recurring rhythmic motif in both pieces - a dotted quaver idea in the former and a triplet quaver figure in the latter - helps to bind the texture together. The descriptive titles are intended to convey the underlying character of each: 'The Dancing Doll' should sound bright, breezy and playful, whereas 'The Doleful Doll' is much more introspective and reflective in mood. Finally, the technical and musical demands in the two Miniatures should be within the capabilities of players of intermediate to advanced standard.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726016 Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christmas,Sacred. Score and parts. 15 pages. Con Spirito Music #2957889. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726016). A Virgin Most Pure is an English traditional carol that appeared in Davies Gilbert's A Collection of Ancient Christmas Carols, with the Tunes to which they were formerly sung in the West of England (London, 1822). The first verse and refrain are as follows:A virgin most pure, as the prophets do tell, / Hath brought forth a baby, as it hath befell; / To be our Redeemer from death, hell, and sin, / Which Adam's transgression had wrapped us in.[Refrain] Aye, and therefore be merry; / Rejoice, and be you merry; / Set sorrow aside; / Christ Jesus our Saviour was born on this tide. The tune is built upon the Mixolydian scale (seventh mode), having the same sequence of tones and semitones as a major scale but with a lowered seventh degree. In this arrangement, the occasional addition of the flat seventh to the tonic chord and its use as a leading tone in some harmonic progressions emphasizes the modal quality of the tune.©Copyright 2013 Todd Marchand / ConSpiritoMusic. English. There is a profound simplicity to this quote by Rabindranath Tagore that connected with me immediately and left no doubt in my mind that I wanted to set it. In reality, it practically set itself. The lilting rhythm of Tagore's words and their joyful message suggest a cadence that is both animated and graceful and an interpretation that is both gregarious and intimate. My role was to step aside and let the words speak for themselves. My hope is that the resulting music mirrors the engaging spirit of Tagore's text.–Craig CarnahanDuration: 4:30.
