The particular incident that lead me to compose this piece was the London Bridge terror attack on the 3rd of June, 2017. It was winter, and a beautiful girl from the suburb of Ormiston in Brisbane, Australia, my current place of residence, was killed by the terrorist that made the attack. Anyone who is empathic may resonate with this piece, as terrorism is something that has impacted every person on this plantet at some time. This is also a rhapsodic piece that must be played Largo and with emotion, and the player must pedal freely throughout.

Stoller used a multitrack recorder and enlisted the help of two of his friends to record the iconic theme in his East London basement.  In May 2010, British copyright collective PRS for music, revealed that the 'Match of the Day' tune was the most recognisable TV theme in the UK. From a private residence to screens across the nation, over 50 years later, this iconic theme sums up everything to do with the 'beautiful game' and now freshly available for concert band.

Published by MJIC Music Publishing (ASCAP) (A0.934203).    Kaleidoscope (2007) commissioned by David Wright, was written while my wife and I were in residence at the David and Julia White Artists Colony, Costa Rica. The tropical location was stunning but , other than permitting luxurious amounts of time to work things out. it was not a direct source of inspiration for the work.  Kaleidoscope employs the Fibonacci sequence (1+1+2+3+5+8…) to control surface rhythm and large sectional proportions. Though I am often explicitly concerned with proportion and its integration at various levels of most pieces I compose; I had never used Fib. because it seemed too easy, and I typically do not like to use processes that are external to a piece. None-the-less I really enjoyed working with the sequence and was pleasantly surprised when the last pitch in the saxophone, with a duration of 89 sixteenth notes, sounded just right.The work is suitable for advanced performers and is 13:00 minutes in duration. The opening theme counts up the decade by interval, starting with intervals of one (unison), major second, major third, perfect fourth and perfect fifth. After exploring the ups and downs of these first five years, in measure eight the count starts over and this time continues with a major sixth, major seventh, octave, major ninth and major tenth. After exploring this additional territory, a melodic section celebrates the accomplishment of ten years, which is recognized by gifts of diamonds, and this piece is my diamond for Suzanne. These remarkably fresh and precociously accomplished works were presented during Sunday musicales held at the Mendelssohn family residence and performed by members of the Berlin Court Orchestra under the direction of the composer himself. The instrumental parts are based on the recently-published Eulenburg study scores of the 12 Sinfonias for strings, newly-edited by Boris von Haken from the extant autograph MSS in the collection of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbestiz.
