Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics, essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed pieces, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger. Luther Background Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music. Influence It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works. Legacy The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

Instrumental Duet Bassoon,Clarinet,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.956608 Composed by Julius Fucik. Arranged by Catriona Melville-Mason. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 7 pages. C Melville-Mason #6477745. Published by C Melville-Mason (A0.956608). Entry of the Gladiators is probably the best known work by Czech composer Julius Fucik (1872-1916) – primarily because of its adoption as an upbeat ‘screamer’ march, heralding the arrival of circus clowns.  In fact, Fucik’s original title for the work was Grande Marche Chromatique, because the piece makes frequent use of chromatic passages.  He later substituted Entry of the Gladiators because of a personal interest in Roman history.  Fucik intended the work to be played at a standard march tempo, though it is generally performed significantly faster in the ‘clowns’ context! This arrangement for duo of B-flat clarinet and bassoon has been classed as 'advanced intermediate' as, although it can be attempted by players of ABRSM Grade 4 - 5 standard, it takes more experienced musicians to do it full justice.

Arranged by Diego Marani. 20th Century,Classical,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 16 pages. Diego Marani #695489. Published by Diego Marani (A0.1091315). The popularity of the 3rd movement, Clair de lune (moonlight in French), has made it one of the composer's most famous works for piano, as well as one of the most famous piano compositions of all-time. This arrangement for string quartet (Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello) is suitable for classroom, repertoire, recital and also for wedding.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.834002 Composed by JOHAN B. KOK. Arranged by BRIAN W. COPPING. Romantic Period,Standards. 16 pages. EMK Music #27097. Published by EMK Music (A0.834002). The Dutch Composer, Johan B Kok (1889-1954), wrote over two- hundred compositions for different combinations of instruments, all of which included the Mandolin or the Mandolin Orchestra. ‘Joska’, originally written for two Mandolins, Mandola and Guitar, bears the subtitle and style of the ‘Zigeuner Romance’ or ‘Gypsy Romance’, and it may well have been inspired by Monti’s better known ‘Czardas’, which, significantly, was also originally written for Mandolin and Piano. Both pieces have contrasting slow and fast sections, which is typical of Central European ‘tavern music’, commonly associated with Hungary. ‘Czardas’, of course, means ‘tavern’ in Hungarian.

Published by Circlesquare Music (A0.1368446). The piece Andante in B flat showcases Diabelli's compositional style, characterized by its classical elegance and clear structure. Being in the key of B flat major, the piece carries a warm and sonorous quality, typical of compositions in this key.Diabelli's music, including the Andante in B flat, often reflects the transition from the Classical to the Romantic era in music. His compositions are noted for their melodic charm and well-structured form, making them accessible and enjoyable for both performers and audiences. Although Diabelli might not be as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, his work, including his role as a publisher and editor, significantly contributed to the musical world of his time. Low Voice,Vocal Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1328390 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. 3 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #916380. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.1328390). The first of its kind, and the first entry in the Accessible Accompaniments libraryâ??s collection of small-hand-optimized song literature publications, this is Richard Straussâ??s beloved â??Zueignung,â? from Acht Gedichte, op. 10 (1885), optimized (but not simplified) for the needs of collaborative pianists with small hands. â??Smallâ? is generally understood to be just an octave in span, with limited capacity to grab chord tones within a blocked octave aside from the occasional inner fifth. This edition was inspired by Booseyâ??s excellent small-hand edition of Frank Bridgeâ??s â??Love Went A-Ridingâ? (erroneously labeled â??simplifiedâ? on the front matter), which thins the large chords that would be problematic or impossible for a barely-an-8ve-reach collaborative pianist to play without adding musically inappropriate rolls or breaks, but also preserves the musical content and grammatically accurate voice-leading. Given that Straussâ??s op. 10 collection is much more widespread on todayâ??s concert programs than the Bridge, and given that average conservatory pianist heights and hand sizes have dropped significantly in the 20th and 21st centuries, the need for a similar adaptation in at least some of the op. 10 songs is obvious. Additionally, Straussâ??s songs are often so orchestral in spiritâ??much more so than the Bridgeâ??that the instinct to treat them as orchestral reductions to be adapted by each individual player should be as self-evident and considered as musically appropriate as it would be for any of Straussâ??s beloved horn concerti. Performers should feel free to insert their own adaptations, additions, and omissions to this score as needed. The primary source material for this edition is Henleâ??s edition of the Acht Gedichte. However, any proprietary material that is not public domain (like their fingerings, front matter, and critical notes) is left out of this edition, leaving only what is public domain and edited by Ms. DiPaolo. Unreasonably large chords and arpeggio figures that would require being reachable by a larger hand have been condensed into figures more appropriate for the just-an-octave hand without sacrificing technique and excitement. This edition makes minor improvements to the engraving, like removing syllabic beaming in the voice and adding octave lines when appropriate. This edition also uses Accessible Accompanimentsâ?? distinctive house style, marked by its visual beauty and ease of reading. While this song will be published in low, middle, and high keys for your convenience, please feel free to request another transposition if you are purchasing from a site that does not offer automatic transposition or you donâ??t see the key that you need. As the name says, Accessible Accompaniments is committed to accessibilityâ??and that goes for singers, too!

Guitar - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11492 Composed by Silvius Leopold Weiss. This edition: Sheet music. Guitar Archive. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q11492. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11492). Silvius Leopold Weiss (1686–1750) is considered to be the most important lutenist of the Baroque era. His works fascinate with elegance and grandeur on the lute. This effect is achieved by making the best possible use of the temperament of the Baroque lute with which third intervals – in contrast to fourths on the guitar – are predominant. The pieces are composed in such a way that the lutenist can often strike open strings and seldom has to manage difficult fingerings or stretch the left hand. When arranging these works for the guitar, the composer's main aim was to maintain the resulting ease of playing on the guitar and the ornaments typical of Weiss (especially the acciaccaturas) as best as possible. The approach to the lute's temperament therefore is cautious, without the player having to adjust significantly.

Instrumental Duet Harpsichord,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808940 Composed by Domenico Scarlatti. Arranged by Fabrizio Aiello. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 32 pages. Preludio s.r.l. #6040367. Published by Preludio s.r.l. (A0.808940). I am very pleased as well as flattered to present this second volume of Domenico Scarlatti’s Sonatas in the version for solo harp that has been selected, revised and meticulously transcribed by Fabrizio Aiello. The varied and inimitable universe of Scarlatti's genius harpsichord music is, without a doubt, also well represented in these six new sonatas. In this volume, Aiello makes an appropriate selection in order to obtain various levels of technical difficulty and leave a greater freedom of fingerings to future interpreters, giving them the opportunity to make wise personal choices. Positive of a favorable reception of this work by the public and critics, I extend my praise to the author for this commendable initiative, which contributes significantly to enhancing the beauty and tradition of an admirable instrument such as the Harp.Susanna Bertuccioli
