Composer Notes

HiJinx! was commissioned by clarinetist Peter Wright in the spring of 2013. It is a mostly humorous piece aimed at entertaining the audience and the members of the orchestra. I also intended it to be a suitable companion to the Rossini Introduction, Theme and Variations, also featured on the Jacksonville Symphony's 2014-15 season opener. Keenly aware of Peter's fine soloistic abilities I approached organization of the work around quotations from well known clarinet solos. The work was composed between December and March with Peter's mischievous personality constantly in mind, thus the inclusion of random quotations from opera, chamber music and popular song.

Si Jag (Korean: 시작) or also translated as Start Over or Start, is a song by South Korean singer Kang Dae-ho (Korean: 강대호), better known by his stage name, Gaho. This song was released as a single on the second part of the Itaewon Class soundtrack. This song is written by Sung Il Park, Dong Sung Seo, and Sam Han.

This transcription is written in concert key based on the single version and includes vocal melody, lyrics in Korean & romanised version, and chord symbols. This song is in the key of E major and is about 3’20 long. The tempo of the music starts at 108 bpm, gradually going up, and end at 110 bpm. This score is suitable for an early-intermediate player as it involved many semiquaver/16th note offbeats, which can be quite challenging for some readers and players.

This score includes : 1) lead sheet without lyrics (3 pages); 2) lead sheet with Korean lyrics (3 pages); 3) lead sheet with romanised lyrics (4 pages); 4) chord chart with rhythm slashes (3 pages). This medium-swing arrangement of the classic Pure Imagination is great for an advanced high school vocal jazz group or collegiate group (Level 4). It is primilary 4-part harmony with some SSA splits in the second half. It features a vocalese with some advanced jazz language in the second chorus with lyric solo opportunities. PDF includes a full score, vocal score, and piano, bass, and drum charts. You will want an experienced rhythm section to play this tune as the rhythm charts are primarily slashes.

This classic jazz waltz gets a fresh coat of cool reharmonization in this very accessible arrangement for intermediate SATB vocal jazz ensemble (plus rhythm section.) Ranges are conservative, and there are only a few splits. Piano/guitar, bass, and drum parts are included (chord symbols and slashes.) A tiny bit of Carol of the Bells makes this a fun chart for December concerts (but it'll still work all year long!)

A Concert band or large ensemble arrangement with the Slash Guitar solo of this awesome song by Guns N' Roses as a versatile option that can be performed with or without the added rhythm section. It is transcribed from the Album version so has the extra section in the middle which allows a true to the original performance with the full guitar solo. The original key of Db does pose a challenge for band members which transposed down to C and the arrangement for sale was performed with great success this summer to 800 people for an event with great results. It was easier to have the Lead guitarist down tune their guitar making it easier to learn quickly as a band. Many arrangements simply put in a repeat using the same music but this is a full arrangement encompassing the original song as close as possible. The rhythm section is fully written out for those musicians that don't read chords which are also included for more advanced musicians. The solo Guitar part is in the audio but there are more in depth transcriptions available from online sheet music Guitar specialist websites that will be a more accurate version.
