Scored for Saxophone quartet (A-A-T-B) with opt. Soprano for first Alto. The introduction starts with the First Alto playing a melodic motif, ever rising to a climatic point and then settling down to the theme- first presented in the First and Tenor parts weaving in and out producing a flowing texture, then joined by the Second Alto and eventually the Baritone. The chorus section of the hymn is a constant weaving of the four parts both harmonically and rhythmically. The next section becomes more active rhythmically adding tension until it settles down into a sweet aura of sound with gentle nudges of harmonic alteration. The final measures give an atmosphere of rest and solace.

Following is a rendition of When I Can Read My Title Clear with melody broken down into fragments passed around to the various instruments. After key changes the quintet presents I Am Bound For The Promised Land in much the same fabric of the earlier section. After a brief transition in a new key we find Just Over In The Glory Land in a more flowing style than the earlier tunes. The Coda section becomes my rhythmically active where it ends on a solid chord .

The second verse is a duet between the first trumpet and trombone. The next statement passes the tune around the various parts gaining in excitement. A string quartet with optional violin for viola. After a full ensemble introduction the piece gives way to a duet in the viola and cello. With the violins entering one at a time the piece now becomes full with all parts present gravitating to motivic development moving to a modulation. The next section gives the tune to the cello with the upper lines adding punctuated accompanied figures. The next section uses motivic patterns while passing portions of the tune to the various players. A modulation- then the parts become increasingly more active in a variation style. With a solid ensemble altering the melody; a brake; then, repose.

Scored for two trumpets and two trombones with opt. Horn for Trom. 1 and Bar. TC for Trom. 2. The opening begins excitedly while giving a sense of moving upward. The first presentation of the theme is very much in a march style and then breaks into more activity with rhythmic alterations. The second section moves to a new key and is essentially a trombone duet and then adds upper voices to place the piece on an elevated plain. Another modulation moves the musical thought even higher while passing the melodic motifs around to the different voices. The Coda gives a sense of elevation and arrival.
