Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.987083 Composed by Eric Paul Nolte and Felix Le Couppey. Arranged by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 5 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #1954995. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987083). This piece is a free adaptation and a complete reworking of a study by Felix Le Couppey (1811-1887), from his L'Agilité, Opus 20, 25 Progressive Studies for Mechanism and Light Touch. In its original form, this study was a charming little piece of musical fluff. But getting it up to speed reduced me to tears! It also gave me an epiphany of immense power that transformed my technique. Suddenly I could play faster than I had ever thought possible, and I could do so with a thrilling ease! This epiphany emerged from the spluttering frustration I felt over my inability to play these sixteenth notes at Le Couppey's metronome marking of 144. It dawned on me that I couldn’t play fast enough because I was tripping over my own fingers when I used the overly articulated technique of moving the fingers by the lift, throw, relax method. This superfluous motion creates an impenetrable barrier, a speed wall, as does playing legato scales by passing the thumb under the palm, when shifting hand position up and down the keyboard. So I found another way-which I’ve since learned was known to every pianist who ever achieved prodigious speed. Here’s how to bring this piece up to speed with ease: Be sure to practice this piece with each hand alone. For each group of sixteenth notes, gently place the four fingers down simultaneously, to get the feel. Think of your arm, from elbow to fingertips, as something like a kitchen utensil, such as a spatula. Moving your right arm as a unit, place your finger tips down into the key bed, depressing all four notes at once, as a block chord. Make sure that all the fingers remain stiff (not rigid with tension, but just stiff enough to resist collapsing upwards.) Slowly lift and then play each group by placing all the fingers down with a rotation of your forearm, calm and relaxed, with the fingers rolling through the notes at the speed of a brief snare drum roll: Rrrrip! To rip through this group of notes like this takes no more effort than to place those four fingers down, calmly, all at once! Then, with a quick shift up or down the keyboard to get into position for the next group, that’s the whole trick for playing such passages with astonishing speed and ease! It takes time and effort to get the knack here, but the result can be transformative and thrilling! As for my adaptation of this study, I believe it offers intermediate advanced players the chance to enjoy a great leap in technique like the one I experienced, and also offers a piece of music that one might not blush to play outside the practice room-perhaps bringing it at least into the living room for a soirée, if not into the concert hall. To make this adaptation, I wrote a grumbly bass line with lungs, and nice fat chords to flesh out most of the skinny little triads that accompany the original study’s fast passages. I added a brooding, chromatic introduction that features as a melody the accompanimental figure of a broken triad that Le Couppey wrote a few times on the second page, in various inversions. I employed this broken chord figure several more times in both hands, and also added a little coda, sprinkled with sparkle. Playing time is about 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.597574 By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Contemporary. Octavo. 10 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #6562161. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597574). This is a BlackBird arrangement for SATB choir with piano accompaniment.  If you're a fan of the English band, we're sure you and your choir will like it.I had been doing poetry readings. I had been doing some in the last year or so because I've got a poetry book out called Blackbird Singing, and when I would read Blackbird, I would always try and think of some explanation to tell the people, 'cause there's not a lot you can do except just read the poem, you know, you read 10 poems that takes about 10 minutes, almost. It's like, you've got to, just, do a bit more than that. So, I was doing explanations, and I actually just remembered why I'd written Blackbird, you know, that I'd been, I was in Scotland playing on my guitar, and I remembered this whole idea of you were only waiting for this moment to arise was about, you know, the black people's struggle in the southern states, and I was using the symbolism of a blackbird. It's not really about a blackbird whose wings are broken, you know, it's a bit more symbolic. - Paul McCartney, Interview with KCRW's Chris Douridas, May 25, 2002 episode of New Ground (17:50 - 19:00)

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891956 Composed by A.E.Williams. Arranged by Stephen Davies. 20th Century,Standards. Score and Parts. 74 pages. Stephen Davies #6094485. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891956).    CLARINET CONCERT CONCERTINO FOR WIND BAND I don’t normally enter long descriptions of my arrangements, nothing worse than seeing that little sign on the bottom right saying ‘see more’, however this piece has a rather interesting story that I’d like to share with you! It was maybe 8 or 9 years ago that I helped in the library of the Band Of The Guards Association, a group of musicians who were all members of the Household Division Bandsin London, that is to say the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish, Welsh, Life Guards and Blues & Royals bands, chiefly known the world over for Changing The Guard at Buckingham Palace and many other ceremonial occasions. The Band Of The Guards Association were privileged to rehearse at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, home of the famous Chelsea Pensioners, renowned for their Redcoats and medals as veterans of the British Army. Our library of music for the band at the time was held in an air raid shelter deep in the cellars underneath the labyrinthine corridors of the old building built by Sir Christopher Wren back in the 1680’s. When I say ‘air raid shelter’, that is exactly what it was like! Can’t go into too much detail, but suffice it to say that it was like being transported back in time! But this is where the library was kept, complete with dusty shelves, blackout warnings, obsolete bulb replacements and tunnels to the Thames! The man in charge of the library was Mr.Gordon ‘Joe’ Stafford, former Solo Clarinet with HM Band Of The Welsh Guards (ret’d), a fine player of that instrument in his day, and revered as such even now. About 8 years ago, our ‘underground ‘ library was deemed a fire hazard, and we were ‘invited’ to move it elsewhere. As we had our practice room nearby in the Chelsea Hospital, we decided to relocate the whole library there, shelving being built and constructed by enthusiastic band members. Joe Stafford and myself were not particularly enthusiastic about this, but it had to be done. Having looked at the enormous amount of music to be moved, we thought about ditching some of the scores which would never be played again, for instance selections of musicals long forgotten, scores with multiple missing parts etc. Lots of that music went to local music organisations simply for sight reading purposes, and the more complete versions went to bands and orchestras to bolster their stock of scores. After the laborious sorting out in the air raid shelter, Joe and I had the unenviable task of discarding the scores and parts that were incomplete, defaced, or just basically useless. It was an arbitrary case of ‘keep or throw’, and at the time we were doing this, Joe was desperate for a pint in the bar! I agreed, and was anyway on my last batch of throwaways when I found a piece titled ‘Clarinet Concerto’, by A.E.Williams. Written in pencil, with ancient sellotape, and signed by all the people who played it many years ago, including the Soloist and composer, I thought that that should not be binned, so I kept it! Joe Stafford suggested that I should ‘get it out there’ , so I have. Incidentally it has a cracking Cadenza towards the end, it was a bit smudged in the original score, but I’ve filled in the gaps!! This would be an ideal addition to the band repertoire for Clarinet!

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.973026 Composed by Francis Kayali. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 26 pages. Francis Kayali #5718759. Published by Francis Kayali (A0.973026). Composed between January and March 2003, the Suite for Piano was written for a recital by pianist Qi Liu (1976-2017), at Stony Brook University, in March of 2003.The opening of the first movement evokes bells, not unlike those in Rachmaninoff’s Russian Easter (the finale of his First Suite for Two Pianos). This is contrasted with a short and murky rising gesture. The middle section incorporates pianistic patterns (some reminiscent of Debussy), a yearning Iberian melody, and a barely-recognizable snippet of Chopin used for a climax. The murky gesture eventually returns, introducing a triumphant statement of the opening bells.Early on, I had decided the piece should include references to the other pieces on the recital’s program: Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 18 (op. 31, No. 3) and Brahms’s F minor Sonata (op. 5). As soon as I had word from Qi that she was going to play the Beethoven, I immediately wanted to hear it. I wasn’t familiar with the piece, and since I didn’t have a score or a recording of it at home, I decided to download it in MIDI format from the internet. Unbeknownst to me, the computer’s rendition transformed the lively second movement scherzo into a slow-moving hymn which reminded me of the Ode to Joy. I was quite surprised the next morning when I went to the music library and listened to a recording played by a human. Nonetheless, I was drawn to the melody, and I found the slow effect interesting, so I decided to base my middle movement (the slow movement) around the theme of Beethoven’s scherzo, making it the hidden theme for a short set of variations. The end of the movement also contains less direct references to the music of Brahms (very short allusions to the Sonata and to the Variations on a Theme by Haydn). The last movement explores fast and light fingerwork, in a sort of toccata or capriccio, providing a flashy ending to the piece. As in the first movement, the form is A-B-A. Before the return of the first section, a little dance evokes the opening of the piece. (The murky gesture from the first movement also finds its way into this last movement). Each of the three movements experiments at one point with using the sustain pedal in order to create a wash of sound. This effect is used most prominently in the second movement.Movement I: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-NKcs076UIMovement II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSxkOcdlpiYMovement III: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CntmWYdOA9Y

This is the most beautiful Piece I have ever made. When I was working on a Garageband, I wanted to make an orchestration music piece. I do wanted to make it simple and Making it a lot of beautiful sounds. I like to add sound effects of this piece and making it sound like a realistic Area. For example at a rainforest, you are in the woods in the rainforest, Yes it is cloudy and rainy with thunder sounds, and no one is there to rescue you. you are alone and lost. So I was thinking of making this melody to make it sound beautiful. After I have finished making this song, It was for my assignment, The professor of my digital Audio Class enjoyed it and wanted me to keep it because of how beautiful it was. So I wanted to compose it and write the music down and I'll let the full orchestra to play this beautiful song. I know that it is kind of an unhappy piece. It is entirely in G Minor. However, the Music that I made in the DAW and the Scoring are not gonna have the same melody. It will be the same piece, but it will have a little bit of changes.   .

Clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, viola, piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.PDP100 Composed by David Diamond. Score and Parts. 97 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #PDP100. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.PDP100). 9 x 12 in inches. The Chamber Symphony dates from his New York period before he studied with the legendary Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979) at the American Conservatory outside of Paris. Like other works from his early 20s, this piece exhibits an extraordinary grasp of structure and overall design within a tonal harmonic language. The unusual scoring (clarinet, bassoon, viola, trumpet, and piano), like so many other chamber pieces written between the two World Wars, shows the influence of Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971), who would later become a close friend of the young American. The Chamber Symphony was premiered on 7 May 1937 at the Federal Theater in New York City. Jacques Gordon conducted the WP A Ensemble. Evidently the group was under-rehearsed and Diamond was not happy the performance. Thinking that the fault lay with the composition itself, he consigned the score and parts to a trunk in the attic of the family home in Rochester where it remained for over fifty years. I ran across a reference to the Chamber Symphony in the early 1990s and telephoned David Diamond to ask if I could get a copy of it. Thus began a sporadic exchange of telephone calls and postcards over the next five years. Among other things, we discovered that his parents and my paternal grandmother had come from the same region of Ukraine. Eventually he tottered up to the attic and sent me a copy of the score, with his penciled corrections, and his original parts, which I photocopied and returned to him. I performed the piece with colleagues at Kansas State University and sent Diamond a copy of the recording. He was ecstatic with our performance and told me I wonder why I've suppressed it for all these years? I got to meet David Diamond in June 2000 and we discussed the possibility of trying to get the Chamber Symphony published. He averred that his regular publishers wouldn't be interested owing to the limited market for such a work. A year after David Diamond's death I began my venture into music publishing and contacted Sam Elliott, a close friend of the composer's who serves as the executor for his estate. Mr. Elliott was happy to hear that I wanted to publish the Piece through Prairie Dawg Press and gave his kind permission to do so. I hope that my colleagues will enjoy this work as much as I have and that it will receive frequent performances.

Trombone Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799352 Composed by Drake Mabry. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 13 pages. Drake Mabry #2015075. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799352). 9.28.85 was written in 1985 and the date refers to the date of completion, September 28, 1985. Excerpts of this piece are included in Benny Sluchin’s book on contemporary trombone excerpts. This work includes my invention of the idea of playing lip multiphonics. Here's the story. During the Spring of 1985, I participated in the l'atelier de recherche instrumental department for acoustic instrument exploration at IRCAM working with Pierre-Yves Artaud (flute), Daniel Kientzy (saxophone) and Benny Sluchin (trombone). Most of the research was based on looking at new ways to produce sound with acoustic instruments and the department was open to performers and composers. A few months after the IRCAM workshops Benny Sluchin and I decided to work on a piece for him. We worked together to explore various contemporary techniques which I might select for the piece. After a while I narrowed down my choices to a movement with air, one with lip multiphonics, and one using the spatial characteristics of the bell, singing, and sending sound out the back by an alternate F tube. Benny is great to work with as he’s a wonderful musician, anything is possible, he’s open to trying out new ideas and he’s a great human being. The perfect combination for a composer. First, about the lip multiphonics in the second movement. During one of our work sessions we looked at singing and playing multiphonics but I wanted something different. So I asked Benny what would happen if he placed his embouchure between two partials of the overtone series. The result was amazing!! A number of partials sounded at the same time and the textural colors were varied and beautiful. The only problem with this was the window for placing the embouchure was very narrow. Slightly too high or slightly too low would result in a terribly out of tune and uncentered partial. Reminded me of what a sick cow might sound like. This difficulty was less pronounced between partials of a fifth but became more difficult when the partials were closer together. Fourths were okay but major and minor third partials were extremely difficult and risky. We decided what the heck and I wrote the second movement knowing the risks. But when the embouchure is well placed it produces such a beautiful sound. Benny mentioned that the idea had a pedagogical side benefit. He said from being able to focus on placing the embouchure in such a limited ‘window’ it made placing the embouchure for normal note much easier. My invention has been used by other composers since including Xenakis in 1986 and an Icelandic composer a couple of years later. The alternate movement come about after Benny had played the piece for a couple of years. He’s able to get these multiphonics but realized that maybe there would not be many other players able to do so. To avoid the problem that this movement might scare players away from the piece we decided that it would be good to have an alternate movement which would use the same ideas but in a less stressful way for the performer. I thought this was a good idea and wrote, what for me, is a more meditative piece based on the same material. I also imagined that it could be played by itself if the player wished. There is a misprint in the score at the end of the first line where there appears a multiphonic based on placing the embouchure between an Eb and an A natural. The A should be an Ab. The first movement explores the subtleties of various vowel and consonant formations in the mouth while playing. Since the trombone is such a perfect amplifier these small details can be heard. For instance the difference between ‘ts’ and ‘tsh’ comes off well. I think of this movement as a vocal conversation or discourse which becomes highly animated at the end. The dynamics play an important role in providing additional colors. The player should really ‘speak’ without speaking for this movement to work. The third movement is my circus piece. I know it is complicated to.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1255098 Composed by Ross Fiddes. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 25 pages. Ross Fiddes #848692. Published by Ross Fiddes (A0.1255098). It was in the aftermath of the 2020 summer bushfires in Australia that soprano Ayse Goknur Shanala rang me from Cyprus to suggest I compose a work about climate change, a subject of concern for me.  My research for lyrics did not elicit anything I considered suitable, so I turned to Derek Dowding, a local poet, singer, actor, raconteur, and a person vitally interested in the future of humanity and of the planet.Derek and I had worked together before – he brilliantly performed the role of Abelard in the workshopping and concert performances of my hybrid opera “Abelard and Heloiseâ€, which, in 1997, won the supreme CONDA (City of Newcastle Drama Award)  for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Newcastle Theatre’ against some 200 other stage productions in Newcastle’s bi-centenary year.Derek worked long and late on the lyrics for the work, producing an emotional document covering history, cause and effect.  His words produced musical responses from me which I consider react appropriately to both his words and the subject matter. I hope our listeners will agree. For the musical treatment I had to consider that the length of the work, through-sung, 20+ minutes, required a recurrent grounding to avoid too many thematic ideas getting in the way of the words.  To that end, I created a quasi-reflective section which appears, rondo-style, quite a few times during the length of the piece.  And, for further cohesion, I built an ABA (ternary) section early to address certain word structures.  Mostly, the various sections followed the stanza structure provided by Derek, with some combinations.  My musical style is essentially melodic, but with dramatic and other episodes, be they tonal, astringent, harmonically indecisive and so on.  In building the work I was principally influenced by the impact and flow of the words. The work is quite mammoth for both the singer and the pianist.  I was absolutely delighted that Anna Fraser again premiered a work of mine – in 2015 she marvellously premiered another major composition of mine, reviewed here:  http://soundslikesydney.com.au/reviews/concert-review-the-man-in-the-other-roomacacia-quartetanna-fraser/19830.htmlWe can only hope that the new work ultimately adds to the chorus of warnings and concern about the climactic future that awaits if we continue to ignore or postpone dramatic and urgent attention to addressing the causes of climate change.A living orb cloaked white and blue and greenRevolving and evolving, tight-hugged in orbit flightWe ride her back; dependent, fragile offspring.Suckling all the while …but have we bonded?A world unlike any other world we’ve seenGifted with Water, Air, Earth and perfect Light. The essentials of life. Freely, these gifts she brings.Free for all but how have we responded?                                                                     Poem© 2020 Derek DowdingRoss FiddesJanuary 2023.

As a composer, musical ideas pop into my head every day. Most of them are completely unrelated to any piece I am currently working on, and I manage to write some of them down for future reference. The theme to Morning Sunrise is one of those ideas. When I wrote it down, I had no idea that I was ever going to create a piece from it, so I just wrote it down for strings.Several months later, however, I had decided that I wanted to write a piece to thank those who have made my high school music life great. I spent weeks developing 4 or 5 themes and even had half of a piece done at one point, but none of theme worked. I then remembered this one from and realized that it was the perfect theme. The result of taking so long to complete this piece is that it is a very powerful piece where there are no extraneous notes, and no missing ones either. It is one where every detail matters.Includes:ScorePiccoloFluteOboeBassoon 1-2Clarinet in Bb 1-3Bass ClarinetAlto SaxophoneTenor SaxophoneBaritone SaxophoneTrumpet in Bb 1-3Horn in F 1-4Trombone 1-3EuphoniumTubaDouble BassTimpaniDuration: 4 MinutesFor more information about the piece, visit https://nickmazuk.com/Works/MorningSunrise Contact: https://nickmazuk.com/Contact/

Timothy Stapay #800122. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1201501). This is an arrangement of Norwegian Wood, composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.  It is written in a bright improvisational style; with changes of key.Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1965 album Rubber Soul. It was written mainly by John Lennon, with lyrical contributions from Paul McCartney, and credited to the Lennon–McCartney songwriting partnership. Influenced by the introspective lyrics of Bob Dylan, the song is considered a milestone in the Beatles' development as songwriters. The track features a sitar part, played by lead guitarist George Harrison, that marked the first appearance of the Indian string instrument on a Western rock recording. The song was a number 1 hit in Australia when released on a single there in 1966, coupled with Nowhere Man. Norwegian Wood Lyrics:[Verse 1: John Lennon]I once had a girlOr should I say, she once had me?She showed me her roomIsn't it good, Norwegian wood?[Bridge: John Lennon & Paul McCartney]She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhereSo I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair[Verse 2: John Lennon]I sat on the rugBiding my time, drinking her wineWe talked until twoAnd then she said, It's time for bed[Guitar Solo][Bridge: John Lennon & Paul McCartney]She told me she worked in the morning and started to laughI told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath[Verse 3: John Lennon]And when I awokeI was alone, this bird had flownSo I lit a fireIsn't it good, Norwegian wood?

Easy piano for solo performer. Compare level to Piano Adventures 2A/B.I have been teaching piano for decades, and I am also a professional composer. After several years of teaching I realized that students at different levels often wanted to play the same songs. But one size does not fit all when it comes to “Easy Piano,” and I did not have five versions of Jingle Bells at my fingertips! So I began arranging songs for in-studio use. Sometimes I ended up with 3 or 4 different levels of a particular song. My preferred method book is Faber’s Piano Adventures, so I used that as a guide for creating my arrangements. Every title I publish has a suggested level that roughly corresponds to books in this series.Students soon learned that they could request any song they wanted, from a holiday carol, to Mozart, to current pop or rock hits. I have now arranged many songs at more than one level of simplicity, and I am always adding more.Check out my other titles on your favourite music download site!See my website for a full list of available titles, and feel free to contact me with any suggestions for new arrangements.www.shelleymarwood.com
