He lived between 1670 - 1738. I Arranged this piece for a lap harp, added some chords to be performed with the left hand and a few ornaments where introduced. Easy to perform in all kinds of events. So I decided to publish the work. It has a dance like structure and a nostalgic character, it can be played faster or slower and it is easy to learn. The score was written on Finale, the sound file was produced with samplers from Garritan. Thank you very much for taking your time to read this text and to listen to the file. Both being polyphonic instruments the guitar and the marimba are certainly distant cousins so I believe the essence of works for one instrument can be expressed on the other, in either direction. While these pieces may in fact work as etudes for marimba I have purposefully renamed them. Whether or not they work as etudes I will leave up to each individual percussionist and teacher the extent of their didactic usefulness. Ultimately though all music can be used for study and my wish is these pieces can be used for study and performance. They are relatively brief and ideally played in sets, the number and selections being determined by the performer. Guitarist Neal Fitzpatrick has a B.M. from the Hartt School where he studied with Alan Spriestersbach and his M.M. from The Yale School of Music where he studied with Benjamin Verdery. The inspiration for my Missa Pro Defunctis (2018) was Fauré's Requiem in which he ignored the fire and brimstone text of the Dies irae and Tuba mirum in the Sequence of the Requiem Mass.  And consequently he created a work that is peaceful, tranquil and uplifting.  I'd like to think of death in that way.So, I proceeded by taking the exact text that Fauré used in his work, and instead of a large chorus and full orchestra I decided to do a chamber version.  It is scored for SATB (single voices), flute, clarinet, string  quartet, double bass and harp.The movements, as in the Fauré, are:1. Introit and Requiem2. Offertory3. Santus 4. Pie Jesu5. Agnus Dei6. Libera me7. In paradisumThe entire work has a duration of ca. 27 minutes.Missa Pro Defunctis (2018) is dedicated to the residents in the Protestant Cemetery in Rome.

SSAA A Cappella arrangement.When I came to make an SSA arrangement of this, It was obvious to me that the bass part was such an important part of the arrangement, that it had to somehow stay there. It just didn't fit for an Alto 2, so I put it in as Sop 2, putting it up an octave, with a couple of minor adjustments. It sounds a bit like a descant, but it's always needed for the harmomies. I think it works well!
