I grew up next to a stream running through my parents’ property, so I was always playing with the mud, fish, and tadpoles. When the professional EvNiKa Clarinet, Violin, and Piano Trio asked for original music, this water idea began to form in my head. The Stream, inspired by Virgil Thomson’s piece The River (1937), stylistically models various American speech rhythms and folk melodies to personify a small but growing body of water. While the Viola provides some of the rhythmic movement originally provided by the fingerpicking style of the guitar, it is quite repetitive, so I have also included both Violin III as Viola in treble clef AND a viola part as Violin II in Alto clef, in the possibility that these inner voices would prefer to swap parts, and to prove that I don't want the violas to always play the boring bits (love to the violas!). It was not possible in thus situation to organize a concert, so I contacted friends who recorded it in various places. First Michal Worek recorded the piano part and then Ondřej Klímek recorded flute part in another studio. In the end, Michal Šinka mixed it in his studio in Switzerland.

ISBN 9790570483211.Writing for Soprano Saxophone and Piano was a revelation - the dialogue between the instruments was as if they were two voices sharing a converstaion on a subject that only they really knew about. So, I suppose, it was inevitable that I began to think of the pieces as a set of 'songs without words'. However, there was something rather elusive about their characters and it wasn't until they were composed that the titles, and the order in which they should be played, became obvious. These songs have been conceived in a non-standard harmonic language; for this reason the saxophone part intentionally has no key signature. Rhythmically, the songs are comparatively straightforward, although the constantly changing time signatures in Song Of Sorrow require careful counting. The range used is not excessive, with more use made of the higher notes than the lower ones.
