It was sung in the movie Love Me Tonight (1932) by Jeanette MacDonald.  Popular recordings in 1933 were by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra (vocal by Jack Fulton), Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians, and Greta Keller. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. Most of the available arrangements of this classic tune are in 3/4 time, but the Ella Fitzgerald version is in 4/4 time, so John and I decided to create this version in 4/4 time. We also added what we think are some pretty cool left-hand fills that we hope you will like! It's a fun song and not too hard to play!

He worked as an arranger for Mantovani, and was, they say, responsible for “The Mantovani Sound� - that cascade of overlapping waterfalls of strings. His Elizabethan Serenade is nothing less that utterly charming. My arrangement is modelled on the version I wrote for the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra (which played 4 different sizes of guitar). This arrangement is one tone higher, and fits nicely onto 6 classical or acoustic guitars (or a large ensemble). Guitar 6 is in treble and bass clefs, so one can substitute a double bass or electric bass, or thicken up the existing part with a deeper sound. My arrangement is mixed ability, almost all the music is early intermediate, but the top line is perhaps intermediate. There are plenty of dynamics which make the music come alive, but there is no fingering - almost all of it can be played in First Position, and a gentle mellow sound will create the most amazing accompaniment which the audience will be convinced has a hidden echo somewhere. When my guitar orchestra played this in concert, you could hear a pin drop - it is a wonderful piece and deserves to be played far more often. I hope YOU enjoy playing this piece!

However it has become one of the most requested songs at their live concerts. Robert Lamm once said he wrote this song as an attempt to create a song that had no rhymes. I think he succeeded. This arrangement is in the original key from their first album The Chicago Transit Authority. The trombone and trumpet solos are included in the arrangement. The album version has the percussion continuing until it fades out. I included the Chicago IV: Live At Carnegie Hall ending so that you can perform this live. There are two generally known versions of Coventry Carol, the often performed 4 part version arranged by Martin Shaw, and the original 1591 version, which is only in 3 parts.Musically, I always preferred the 1591 version, with it's false relations and irregular metre. Unfortunately, when you direct a SATB choir, this is not so easily performed, and directors by default perform the Shaw arrangement. I therefore arranged the 3 part harmonisation of 1591 into 4 parts, keeping the irregular metre and false relations of the original, whilst filling in some of the harmony. The result is a version which works in 4 parts, but keeps the feel of the original 1591 setting.

The River Jordan is not in fact very deep, nor is it very wide. However, the longing to cross over it into camp ground in the promised land is very deep indeed! Based on the biblical story of Moses and the tribes of Israel wandering in the desert for forty years, this song is about exile and yearning for somewhere to belong. It applies to everyone, not just to the African-Americans who first sang this song, with their own history of heartache over so many centuries. Anyone who feels alienated by life and who is searching for inner peace is invited to respond to its soulfulness. Surprisingly - says the song - there are those who don't want to go to that gospel feast. But the song just continues its own search for the promised peace, convinced that the answer lies deep within us, perhaps across our own, personal deep river. The old African-American Spiritual Deep River is here set for piano solo in a relatively straightforward arrangement, based on the arranger's own barbershop quartet setting of the same song. It is to be played soulfully!

It was begun in 2013 and completed in 2016; the total duration is 6:41. The texts by Solomon Ibn Gabriol, Samuel L. Clemens (aka Mark Twain), and one attributed to Fra Giovanni Giocondo but probably written by Earnest Temple Hargrove, take the listener on a journey from grief/death to hope/heaven. Themusical language is unapologetically chromatic. Other than perhaps the most academic of composers these days, chromaticism has largely fallen into disuse. Although the vast majority of my music written since around 1998 is either tonal or more often modal, I occasionally return to a chromatically saturated musical language to express certain emotions through sounds that are alien to thosemusical languages. I did so in the present title with the intent of painting the three texts more poignantly. While most passages feature familiar-sounding triads and octaves, the melodies, harmonies and cadences sound unfamiliar. This catchy, uptempo, Hi-NRG dance-pop anthem featured in the highly successful first Pitch Perfect film, with Ester Dean (who wrote it) nailing that iconic intro. S&M peaked at number one in ten countries in addition to the United States while peaking within the top five in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Ireland. As one of Rihanna’s most memorable songs, it’s sure to be recognised by many. Important: Included: Score and set of parts in E♭m and Em. Each movement is one word of a sentence addressed to Sarah. To determine the rhythm, each word was translated into Morse code (which she had learned as a teenager), using (for the most part) eighth notes for dots and quarters for dashes. For example, the letter S in Morse code is “. . .�, so S in the music is represented by a pattern of three eighth notes, as in the first bar, whereas A is “. - “, represented by the eighth and quarter of the second bar. The melodic motive for each movement was based on a year that was important in her life; for instance, the first movement is based on 1945, the year of her birth. I chose C as 1, C# as 2, etc. – which means that the majority of the movements begin with C - G#/A-flat (1-9). In the case of 2010, I chose to ignore the zeroes, meaning the theme consists of only two notes, D-flat and C.
