Thierry Pélicant was born in 1957 at Sainte-Adresse, France. After studying the organ and the horn, his meeting with Jean-Claude Hartemann, the Musical Director of the Opéra Comique in Paris lead him to decide to explore conducting. He was the student of Haremann for fifteen years. He is the Musical Director of the André Messager Orchestre and has also directed the Orchestre Philharmonique de l’Oise since 1980, one of the oldest French orchestras, since it was founded in 1750. A passionate supporter of French music, Pélicant reconstructed the Messe solennelle of L.V.A Boïeldieu and Te Deum of 1792 by Philidor and premièred and recorded the Suite Parnassienne, Massenet’s last work. At the same time, he has also served the music of our time in premièring or recording the works of Dazzi, Marchand, Braconnier, Bénard, Drouin, Preschez, etc. As a composer, musical grammar and stylistic debates only interest him from afar. As a true gourmet (since cooking is another of his passions), he strives to write the music that pleases him, that would be enjoyable to play and which would be enjoyable to hear, hopefully with real pleasure and in which he tries to express the emotions and the pleasant or surprising states of being which, to hime, these works are tied. It was written thanks to a collaboration with costarican pianist Rebeca Ordóñez Rodríguez and costarican violinist/violist Erasmo Solerti who were looking for a piece to premiere in a concert dedicated to the Central American bicentennial. Clouds played a vital role in the lives of our ancestors. Thanks to their observation skills, they were able to achieve a deep understanding of the nature surrounding them. As a kid, one of the games I used to play with my cousins and my mom was finding shapes in the clouds. We spent several hours laying on the ground just looking at clouds changing shapes. Each movement represents a mood involving clouds. The first movement is a dance in 5/8 time signature. It begins with a challenging key that will require a skillful violist. The movement explores the range of the Viola, including harmonics and other techniques. The second movement explores the alto range of the Viola while allowing the player to be very expressive, the combination with the piano creates a musical atmosphere representing a gray cloudy day. The third movement is a fast-paced dance that represents a day with different cloud scenes, for example, rain for one moment and sunny the next minute.

(for a scientific explanation check yor favorite English grammar book).- Third, entradora is a wink to Argentine composer Julián Plaza, who used one-word adjectives as title of several of his milongas and tangos, for instance Nocturna, Danzarín, Melancólico, Melancólica, Sensiblero, Nostálgico, Disonante, Dominguera, Expresivo, Futura, Instrumental, Juguetón, Paseandera, Payadora, Solemne, Temperamental - and possibly others that I am not aware of.- And fourth, the meaning of the word entradora in the coloquial Spanish of Argentina is this one: if applied to a person, is someone that easily makes friends, that wins the trust of the people very easily, who is very charming. Toccata & Fugue for Organ (2018)Composed by Aris AntoniadesRunning time: approx. 7' 50'' Writing for Organ always seemed like a very distant dream for me. Born and raised in Cyprus, an isolated Mediterranean island-state in Europe where the religious musical tradition (Greek Orthodox Christianity) relies solely on voices (no instruments used during services), I never had access to an Organ. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, there’s not a single Organ in my entire country. The first time I ever saw one was during my college years in New York – and it was love at first sight! I was fascinated by its sound capabilities, its mechanism, and the sheer skill required to play it. You can, therefore, understand how thrilled I am to have had the opportunity to write for this great instrument. I would like to sincerely thank Shannon Murphy and Austin Philemon for believing in my work, and for commissioning this piece. Both the Toccata and the Fugue are based on the same (but altered) motivic materials. The Toccata is a piece that was inspired by the idea that life is a continuous marathon, represented by the ‘mechanical’ sixteenth-note ostinato figure which never stops – despite the contrapuntal obstacles that are thrown within its path. The motive, however, does transform and adapt along the way, in order to make the best of the situation.  The Fugue, on the other hand, represents the cerebral aspect of life: the concept of choices. The ostinato motive of the Toccata has now morphed into the subject of the Fugue, which will be attacked by some violent chromatic enemies.
