Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1477723 Composed by Aaron Robinson. 20th Century,Classical. Score. 55 pages. Music at Immanuel #1055103. Published by Music at Immanuel (A0.1477723). Dedicated to pianist Eric Xi Xin Liang, PIANO SONATA by American composer Aaron Robinson is a programmatic work on a monumental scale. Composed in four movements representing four areas of Maine: Machigonne (Portland), Down East, Malaga Island and Katahdin, each paints a detailed portrait of a specific time and place in the State’s history. Its compositional structure draws heavily on the sights and sounds associated with each region while weaving original themes throughout. Mimesis is used to represent the native calls of the indigenous birds found within the state, such as the phoebe, bobolink and the pileated woodpecker; while hymns, songs and sea shanties are incorporated to represent various time periods. Movement I - MACHIGONNE - Native Americans originally named what is today the Portland peninsula of Maine “Machigonne”, which translates “Great Neck”. The movement quotes several sacred and ritual songs of the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine. The struggle between centuries of habitation by the native peoples of the area is represented by the arrival of early settlers and illustrated by juxtaposing hymn tunes and dance music of the past eras.Movement II - DOWN EAST - is the eastern coastal area of the state closely associated with the French territory of Acadia. Replete with historic sea shanties and tunes, the sound of tolling ship and buoy bells, lighthouse fog horns, and ocean winds are intertwined to create a high-spirited journey which culminates in the familiar Shaker tune from Alfred, Maine.Movement III - MALAGA ISLAND - Today an uninhabited reserve, Malaga Island was once the home to an interracial community dating from the 1860s to 1911, when its residents were forcibly evicted by the State. The opening theme represents the remnants of the island in its present state; haunted by the memories and unsettling muted solitude of the past and its historical injustice. A peaceful hymn depicting simpler times becomes slowly unraveled, erupting in a traumatic chaos that is never resolved. A ghostly refrain can be heard in the distance as the movement concludes.Movement IV - KATAHDIN - Mount Katahdin (“Catahdrin”), called “Great Mountain” by the Penobscot Native Americans, is located within the Northeast Piscataquis County, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The grandeur of its majesty is portrayed by the original themes depicting epic rising and falling passages traversing over centuries. Native Americans believed the mountain to be the home of the storm god Pamola (a place to be avoided), which is characterized by ever-changing major and minor keys within the often times turbulent motifs. The sonata ends in a tonal key: bringing the atonality and discordant change of the work and its representation as a whole to a final resolve.PIANO SONATA lasts approximately 25 minutes.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928443 Composed by Janette Mason, James Thompson. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Praise & Worship,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Janette Mason #6327385. Published by Janette Mason (A0.928443). Contemporary Classic solo piano piece for Grade 3-4 intermediate players.   ‘Reflections’, is a gently evolving ambient piece in the key of G major. It uses a repetitive eight note broken chord pattern, spread between the hands, based on the primary chord of the key. This develops into arpeggios in the left hand as the right plays the melody in two part harmony. Sonically rich four note chord voicings are utilised to introduce a contrasting theme in the relative minor.     Key Techniques:   • Broken chords patterns • Four note chord voicings • Left hand intervallic stretches of an octave plus.   Composer Tips:   • Play with a gentle touch throughout. • Be sure to count the beats in the bars with the held semibreves. • Keep the left arm light and loose when negotiating the octave plus intervals on page 4.     Reflections is suitable for home performance, practice pieces, ABRSM, RSL,TRINITY grade support pieces, professional performance, school and student learning. Influenced by the current top pianists in this field such as Ludovico Einaudi, Alexis Ffrench, Olafur Arnalds, Luke Howard etc. Piano Hive always aim to write and produce music that is clearly laid out, very readable and will help improve several aspects of your playing whilst sounding great at the same time. Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533606 Composed by Carson Cooman. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score. 16 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3030525. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533606). I. Mourning at SunsetII. Beyond Distant EchoesIII. Whispers of MortalityFourth Piano Sonata (2005) was commissioned by and is dedicated to pianist Donna Amato. The work is in three movements, each using the exact same musical material. Eachmovement presents a trajectory towards a greater integration of the disparate pieces ofmaterial. The first movement, Mourning at Sunset, presents the basic material in clearly definedblocks. An opening section of forceful, declamatory chords alternates with a more lyricalsection of interlocking lines. The forceful music returns before a slow, desolate section ispresented. This builds to a small climax before dying down again. The opening then returns. The second movement, Beyond Distant Echoes, is slow and ethereal. Sounds of distant gongsalternate with brittle, spasmodic interjections. The third movement, Whispers of Mortality, is inspired by the finale of Frederic Chopin'sPiano Sonata in B-flat minor. It is fast and fleeting and too short. The musical materialhas transformed into pure running roulades of raw notes. The movement evaporates into theuppermost register.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.914747 Composed by Benjamin Godard (1849-1895). Arranged by Eric J Roth. Romantic Period. Individual part. 14 pages. Eric J Roth #5867073. Published by Eric J Roth (A0.914747). Benjamin Godard (1849-1895) was a French  violinist and composer of Jewish heritage. He wrote hundreds of works, including  symphonies, operas, concertos, chamber and solo pieces, and songs. Today he is  most remembered for his five symphonies and the Berceuse from his opera,  Jocelyn. In style, Godard's music is reminiscent of the early Romantic  period rather than the more grandiose style of Wagner. Godard wrote two sonatas for solo violin. The first dates from the 1870s. The  second was composed in the 1890s and published after his death. Both sonatas contain four movements and employ baroque dance forms. The Deuxiéme (second) Sonata,  arranged here for guitar solo, opens with a Sarabande in A minor, marked molto  moderato e pompasamente (very moderately and pompously). The following Rigodon in C major is quick and convivial, although a contrasting section in C  minor tempers the mood. The third movement, Adagio non ma troppo, begins in a  tranquil F major. The texture soon thickens and makes striking use of the  instrument’s lower register. A sudden modulation to F minor provides the  sonata's most introspective moment. The piece returns to A minor and ends in a dramatic  cliffhanger on the dominant. The rhythmic Bourrée serves as a true  finale and includes a frenetic contrapuntal section recalling the violin  sonatas of J. S. Bach.
