Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town is arranged as played by piano artist,Jo Ann Castle.  This arrangement has all of the piano fireworks that she was noted for.  A very energetic and fun arrangement in Jo Ann's fiery style.Jo Ann Castle is an American honky-tonk pianist, best remembered for appearing on The Lawrence Welk Show.  She adopted her stage name from the name of an accordion manufacturer, another instrument she played proficiently. She was often referred to as Queen of the Honky-Tonk Piano by Lawrence Welk himself.Originally introduced to Welk by Joe Feeney in 1959, Castle became a permanent member of the Welk Family, replacing the departing Big Tiny Little.  In the 1990s, Castle performed at the Welk-owned Champagne Theater in Branson, Missouri, as well as making a guest appearance for a show with Jimmy Sturr and His Orchestra on RFD TV.

Stevens was born in 1862 in the Lawnridge community of Scotland County, Missouri.  All through his life, he suffered many hardships including his father being falsely arrested and serving some prison time during his teens. He became a minister of the gospel until death, dying a year after his wife in the early 1940s. All of their babies died before them, some as small children, one Waldo at 19, and a daughter who may have lived a little longer. This may have shaped the feelings expressed in this song.  This arrangement is for 4 part male harmony (TTBB) a cappella.

Psalms 130.This tonal setting of Psalm 130 follows the strophic translation created by the Elizabethan poet and composer Thomas Campion. Each verse follows an original melody, which is elaborated upon progressively throughout the different verses. The piano part is constructed independently of the four voice parts and is equal to them in the overall construction of the piece. The piece is rooted thoroughly in the minor and supports the pleading nature of the words throughout. It is ideally suited to the season of Lent but would also complement any penitential service or memorial. It was created for the English-born conductor Philip Barnes, and his singers at the Third Baptist Church, which is in Grand Center, St. Louis, Missouri. Duration: 4:35.

The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime,  The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films.This version for Alto and Tenor Saxophone Duet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The linked youtube performance is the Alto Saxophone version of this duet and the repeats are omitted for brevity.Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation. The recording is of the complete edition. Cook was a key figure in American music from the 1890s to the 1920s. His Swing Along! was written for a theater production in 1903 combining Black folk music with classical music techniques and became a popular standard with choruses and glee clubs. A violin virtuoso, he studied at Oberlin College, Berlin's Hochschule für Musik with Joseph Joachim, and New York's National Conservatory of Music with Antonin Dvorak. He devoted his career to Black musical comedies and was instrumental in showcasing his Southern Syncopated Orchestrat throughout the Unites States and Europe, featuring New Orleans clarinetist Sidney Bechet. Though he lived much of his life in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, Hughes was born in Missouri and raised in Kansas, Illinois, and Ohio. At age seventeen, he traveled to Mexico to live with his estranged father. As he crossed the Mississippi River, he was inspired to write The Negro Speaks of Rivers, which begins “I’ve known rivers….,� and is the text for the first movement, “My Soul Has Grown Deep.� It reflects upon rivers of historic and geographical importance—the Euphrates, Congo, Nile, and Mississippi. As the rivers have endured over time, so has the human soul. The waters—the blood—runs deep.In contrast to the universal message of the first song, “Troubled Water,� which uses the poetry of the same title, is contemporary and personal. Water becomes an image of the unsettled and uncertain nature of love. The journey of love is a journey of troubled water. There is no resolution.Undaunted by the elusive nature of love, the poet, heard via the chorus, turns flippant, displaying a persevering and humorous outlook in “Jump Right In!� (to the river) from Hughes’ poem Life is Fine. Romantic misadventures will not conquer the spirit. “I could’ve died for love, but for livin’ I was born.�“In time of silver rain,� once more using the poem of the same title, is a song of healing. With the regeneration of spring, the poet marvels at the wonder of life.Though intended to be performed as the complete multi-movement work I’ve Known Rivers, each song may be performed separately.
