String Quartet String Quartet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.798110 By Luiz Gonzaga. By Joao Leocadio Da Silva and Luiz Gonzaga Do Nascimento. Arranged by Inacio Saldanha. Contemporary. Score and parts. 9 pages. Inacio Saldanha #5210673. Published by Inacio Saldanha (A0.798110). Pagode Russo is configured as a song in a happy tone typical of Northeastern festivities. When announcing the famous Cossack dance, the music ends up showing the Pernambuco frevo, pointing to one of the main similarities between the two dances: the juggling jumps or the falls don't fall. It therefore addresses the cultural approaches between different peoples. In this way, we understand that lyrics (verbal aspect) and music (melodic aspect) are worked in order to reinforce the meaning of each other. Both emphasize the modalization of a / doing / and express the joy and euphoria of an enunciating subject in line with his values, in this case, the cultural values of his people, his land. (Text of Líllian da Cruz Régis and Maria de Fátima B. de Mesquita Batista¹)Arranged for String Quartet. Key of G minor. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1320692 Composed by Aaron Corley. 21st Century,Classical,New Age. Score. 3 pages. Transdimensional Music #909174. Published by Transdimensional Music (A0.1320692). 'Stumbling Fingers' is an atonal piano solo approximately 2:17 in duration. Sometimes, I like to experiment with nontraditional composing methods. To create this piece, for example, I took the melodic rhythm of a well-known (public domain) work by another composer and changed each pitch using a twelve-sided die. I set the notes and C above middle C (C5) and then went up or down the scale in half-steps based on what I rolled. After a little tweaking, I added the accompaniment from another source (also well-known and in the public domain), 'Stumbling Fingers' is the end result.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.915697 Composed by Early American Tune. Arranged by Richard Joseph Barber. Christian,Contemporary,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 7 pages. Barber Music Company #3879693. Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915697). This piece lasts two minutes and nineteen seconds. John Newton, 1725 - 1807, author of Amazing Grace, also wrote, How Tedious and Tasteless the Hours. The hymn tune is GREEN FIELDS, and depending on the hymnal or other source in which you find it, opinions vary about who originally composed it. Most, I believe, will call it an Early American Melody, but some attribute it to J. S. Bach, and say that it is found in his Peasant Cantata. However, I listened to the entire Peasant Cantata recently to see if that true, and, although I did hear fragments in one aria that sounded reminiscent of GREEN FIELDS, it seems a bit of a stretch to me to say that the hymn tune has its original version in Bach's cantata. If someone can point me to the portion of the cantata where Bach gives us a clearly identifiable early version, I would be very appreciative. Bach is essentially my favorite composer, and I wouldn't mind attributing the origin of this and many other great melodies to him. -Richard Barber

Brass Quintet Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1249436 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Chamber,Christian,Easter,Historic. 31 pages. Regis Bookshar #841720. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1249436). Three selections based on Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ lay in death's bonds) (from Cantata No.   4, BMV   4) - Johann Sebastian Bach - Brass Quintet (2 Trps, 2 Trbs, 1 Tuba) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download.Cantata No.   4, BMV   4, Christ lag in Todesbanden (also spelled Todes Banden) (Christ lay in death's bonds) is a cantata for Easter written by Johann Sebastian Bach and is his earliest surviving Church Cantata. It was probably written in 1707 when he was 22 years old. It is a Chorale Cantata, a style in which both the text and music are based on a hymn. In this instance, the source was Martin Luther's hymn of the same name which became a main Easter hymn in German Lutheranism.Regis Bookshar has transcribed and arranged three selections based on this hymn tune, two from Bach's Cantata No.   4, BMV   4, and also his Chorale Prelude, BMV 625. They may be played individually or as a trilogy and each movement is more complex than the previous one. The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale, Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.   4, a straightforward four-part chorale setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court organist at Weimar. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in th middle of his Cantata No.   4.This arrangement is for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets, 2 Trombones and 1 Tuba. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (31 pages).I hope you will enjoy playing these selections and please search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. There are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. I think you will be pleased with what you may find.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1193058 Composed by Colin Eatock. A Cappella,Christian,Classical,Contemporary,Religious. Octavo. 14 pages. Colin Eatock Music #792512. Published by Colin Eatock Music (A0.1193058). A cappella SATB choir; ca. 4 min.The composer writes: Much like other composers who have written “Alleluias,†I conceived of this piece as a kind of choral vocalise, and I have used the word as a vehicle to indulge my penchant for tonally fluid chromaticism. However, unlike some other modern “Alleluia†composers, I also include an incipit, “Benedictus es.†The source for this phrase is the Book of Daniel (3:52). I found it in an “Alleluia†setting by the Renaissance composer Heinrich Isaac.

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552847 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Holiday,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3468186. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552847). J. S. Bach BWV 508  Score: 5 pages, Solo part: 1 page. Piano part: 2 pages. Bist du bei mir Bach adapted this aria from a lost Stölzel opera called Diomedes. He changed the original orchestral instrumentation to soprano, strings, and continuo.  He also modified the voice-leading making it sound more like a Bach composition. The work appears as BWV 508 No. 25 in the Anna Magdalena Notebook No. 2.   Source Only a few remnants of the original opera have survived. Historians speculate that Anna Magdalena got the song from the Leipzig Opera after the bankruptcy of 1720. Chances are good, though, that the tune was a favorite of everyone in Leipzig at the time.   Lyrics When thou art near, I go with joyTo death and to my rest.O how joyous would my end be,If your fair hands            Would close my faithful eyes. - Unknown Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy are the St. John Passion, and indeed the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival                Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.  Voyager NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Onboard are phonograph records with sounds, music, and images of life on Earth. The purpose of the launch was to inform intelligent extraterrestrial life forms about conditions on Earth. The music on the disc is varied. There is Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky among others. However, because Bach is so important in our music history, it contains three times more Bach than all the others combined.

Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.948808 Composed by Serghei Rachmaninov. Arranged by Adrian F. Pipas. 20th Century. 7 pages. Adrian F. Pipas #6642575. Published by Adrian F. Pipas (A0.948808). ЗдеÑÑŒ хорошо (Zdes' khorosho, How nice is here) was written in April 1902, in a sweet moment in the composer's life: he had overcome a creative block and had just married his cousin Natalia Sarina. Zdes' khorosho is n. 7 from Twelve Romances, op. 21, a beautiful song that talks about the bond between man, nature and God. It’s also a love song; One of the things I like the most is the balance between contemplation and passion that Rachmaninov accomplishes. The poem, by the Countess Glafira Adolfovna Einerling, a contemporary writer of the composer who wrote under the pseudonym of Galina, simply describes a sunset. I don't know if the landscape portrayed is similar to what Rachmaninov could see from his home but no doubt he felt it part of his own; he even changed the beginning of the poem so he said that the nice place was here. Zdes' khorosho is a song full of lyricism, seemingly simple but demanding for the singer (please pay attention to the pianissimo at the last verse, which seems to arise from nowhere), with an exquisite accompaniment. Some scholars think that the true essence of Rachmaninov is found in songs like that, rather than in his athletic piano concerts. In 1963, the Russian composer Vladimir Michailovich Jurowski (father and grandfather of conductors) orchestrated ten songs by Rachmaninov, including Zdes' khorosho, and there is a later orchestration of this song by Michael Rot. You know that I usually find it difficult to renounce the original piano versions, especially when the composer didn't orchestrated them, but I recommend you to listen to Anna Netrebko singing this song with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev. You might wonder why I don't share this version here, there are two reasons: first, I can’t do without that beautiful piano; two, I chose my version months ago (something that lately happens quite often). I said before that Zdes' khorosho is between contemplation and passion; Most of singers enhance the most contemplative perspective, that's the case of the lovely performance by Anna Netrebko. Others sing the most passionate version, like the one we’re listening today. Its tempo is faster than usual, it lasts about a minute and a half; maybe it would surprise you if you're used to slower versions. I hope you enjoy this song as much as me; I think this performance by Nicolai Gedda and Gerald Moore, recorded live in 1966, is wonderful.Source: Liederabend.cathttps://www.liederabend.cat/en/bloc/entrades/400-how-nice-it-is-here

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.939814 Composed by Richard St. Clair. 20th Century,A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 8 pages. Richard St. Clair #4766839. Published by Richard St. Clair (A0.939814). This short (2'30) and emotionally powerful motet for unaccompanied SATB chorus sets the verse of John VII:18 from the Bible. The music is dramatic, filled with contrapuntal invention, and attains a high level of expressive intensity. It is a commentary on the self-serving nature of people and their transient glory as opposed to the highest glory for people who listen to a higher power as their spiritual source. The musical style is tonal (with some free harmonies), in relatively simple rhythms, and reflects the composer's debt to Renaissance music as an inspirational fount.
