String Quintet Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257229 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Chamber,Christian,Easter,Historic. 29 pages. Regis Bookshar #850560. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1257229). Three selections based on Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ lay in death's bonds) (from Cantata No.   4, BMV   4) - Johann Sebastian Bach - String Quintet (3 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Violoncello) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download.Cantata No.   4, BMV   4, Christ lag in Todesbanden (also spelled Todes Banden) (Christ lay in death's bonds) is a cantata for Easter written by Johann Sebastian Bach and is his earliest surviving Church Cantata. It was probably written in 1707 when he was 22 years old. It is a Chorale Cantata, a style in which both the text and music are based on a hymn. In this instance, the source was Martin Luther's hymn of the same name which became a main Easter hymn in German Lutheranism.Regis Bookshar has transcribed and arranged three selections based on this hymn tune, two from Bach's Cantata No.   4, BMV   4, and also his Chorale Prelude, BMV 625. They may be played individually or as a trilogy and each movement gets more complex than the previous one. The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.   4, a straightforward four-part chorale setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court oganist at Weimar. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen) (It was a strange battle that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in the middle of his Cantata No.   4.This arrangement is for a String Quintet, consisting of 3 Violins, 1 Viola and 1 Violoncello. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (29 pages).I hope you will enjoy playing these selections and please search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. There are numerous selections in a variety of  styles, also available for purchase. I think you will be pleased with what you may find.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1253034 By Bruce Dudley. By Bruce Dudley. Arranged by Bruce Dudley. Celtic,Contemporary,Irish,Jazz,Multicultural,World. Score. 8 pages. Bruce Dudley #846776. Published by Bruce Dudley (A0.1253034). Highland Bee Keeper (Etude #11) is in a Light Fusion style reminiscent of certain European improvisational artists, particularly those heard on the ECM record label.  It has a straight 8th-note feel and consists of three sections: mm. 1 - 42 present the main themes; mm. 43 - 84 represent a solo section with an improivisational-like melodic line played over open fifths with the left hand in recurring syncopated rhythms.  Mode names are used in place of chord symbols (over the treble cleff) that indicate to source of the melodic material; the third section, mm. 85 - 122, is a return to the first section, with small variations and a short coda.

String Quartet Cello,Double Bass,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869690 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 40 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #5982647. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869690). Seven Steps To Heaven was composed for the Terezin Chamber Music Foundation/Project STEP Summer Education Collaborative in the Berkshires. The work, scored for seven string instruments †2 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos & contrabass, is in seven sections: four movements with three interludes in between.Moderato, Humble Vale Interlude IFunk ScherzoInterlude IIBossa nova Interlude III Perpetuo motoWhen Mark Ludwig, Director of the Terezin Chamber Music Foundation, told me that Seven Steps would be premiered at the Hancock Shaker Village, I thought it would be most appropriate to use a Shaker tune as a source for this work. The work begins with Humble Vale. Humble Vale is part of the Hancock Hymnal: 1850 compiled by Deborah Rentz Moore. The most obvious element in this beautiful melody is the predominance of the pentatonic mode. The Funk Scherzo movement is a dissertation on pentatonic subsets: major seconds, minor thirds and perfect fourths. The Bossa nova movement, although not pentatonic melodically, is full of chords derived pentatonically: chords stacked in fourths, for example. The last movement, Perpetuo moto, is most definitely pentatonic in its theme: an incessant repeating figure with explosive pentatonic flurries of major seconds, minor thirds and perfect fourths. In between the four movements I have inserted three interludes. Interlude I is an interlocking pair of waltzing pentatonic melodies for two violins. Interlude II is a solemn march on an Fâ€sharp pedal. Interlude III is a quasiâ€canonic descending scale that resolves into a big Gâ€flat major chord. It is my intention that these interludes provide a smooth and slithery connection from one movement into the next. Enjoy!!!The work is dedicated to Miles Davis. His 1963 LP/CD Seven Steps To Heaven is a seminal recording for all music lovers. It made a huge impression on me when I was a teenager in São Paulo, Brazil. I must have listened to it a thousand times. I know every solo by heart. Heaven is Miles’ domain.
