Bass Clarinet,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549231 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Easter,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3468714. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549231). J. S. Bach BWV 508.  Bist du bei mir Bach adapted this aria from a lost Stölzel opera called Diomedes. He changed the original orchestral instrumentation to soprano, strings, and continuo.  He also modified the voice-leading making it sound more like a Bach composition. The work appears as BWV 508 No. 25 in the Anna Magdalena Notebook No. 2.   Source Only a few remnants of the original opera have survived. Historians speculate that Anna Magdalena got the song from the Leipzig Opera after the bankruptcy of 1720. Chances are good, though, that the tune was a favorite of everyone in Leipzig at the time.   Lyrics When thou art near, I go with joyTo death and to my rest.O how joyous would my end be,If your fair hands            Would close my faithful eyes. - Unknown Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival                Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.  Voyager NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft in 1977. The music on the disc is varied. There is Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky among others. However, because Bach is so important in our music history, it contains three times more Bach than all the others combined.

Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576770). Setting of Ronsard's poem A Cassandre for speaking voice and bassoon In the sound sample the poem is spoken in modern French by my father S N Solomons who also created an English version as shown below The bassoon part is based on the song To Cassandra for alto and guitar, using my father's translation, which is also available on this site Mignonne, allons voir si la rose Qui ce matin avoit desclose Sa robe de pourpre au Soleil, A point perdu ceste vesprée Les plis de sa robe pourprée, Et son teint au vostre pareil. [English translation by SN Solomons] Darling, come see the rose so red, Which this morn timidly had spread Her mantle to the eye of day. Come see if she has lost this e'en Her crimson pleated robe's soft sheen, That same blush which on your cheek plays. See how in but a paltry hour She has let fall her ailing flower. Her beauty lies there in the dust! Alas! How cruel is Mother Nature, Since such a blossom can endure Only from trembling dawn to dusk. Darling you must indeed believe, Whilst innocence within you cleaves The bud and blooms in purity, Garner the gifts of tender youth, For, like this flower, age in sooth Will sadly spoil and tarnish beauty.].

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.828246 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Paul Thurmond. 20th Century,Christian,Classical,Sacred. Score. 5 pages. Paul Thurmond #4969035. Published by Paul Thurmond (A0.828246). Tune: HYMN TO JOYUse: PreludeHymn to Joy is the main theme of the last movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most famous work, his Ninth Symphony, which premiered in 1824, only three years before his death. The tune has been paired with several different hymn texts, but the most popular one in most churches is Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.Just six years later, around 1830, a young Polish composer living in Paris, Frédéric Chopin, composed his most famous work, the Nocturne in E-flat major. It’s a piece that’s beloved by pianists for its lovely melody set over a widely spaced accompaniment. The tune gets considerably more complex as it goes on.My setting goes through the melody three times. The first and third sections are fast, and are built on a kind of arpeggio-pattern-with-a-melody-on-top that Chopin was fond of using. The slow section in the middle starts with a total ripoff of the opening of Chopin’s Nocturne; it’s even in the same key! Instead of Chopin’s melody, though, I use Beethoven’s, and develop the tune as Chopin did, beginning plainly, then becoming increasingly ornate. This piece was a blast to write, and I hope you enjoy it, too.

Bass Guitar TAB - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1471949 By Tracy Dean McCallum. By Tracy Dean McCallum. Arranged by Tracy Dean McCallum. 20th Century,Jazz,Rock. Score. 1 pages. Tracy Dean McCallum #1049582. Published by Tracy Dean McCallum (A0.1471949). https://tracymccallum.com Spy Plane: A Groovy Bass Odyssey Strap on your headphones and prepare for takeoff, because this bass transcription of Spy Plane is about to take you on a funky, high-altitude mission. The groove is undeniably cool, a blend of tight pocket playing and adventurous improvisation. Gear Up: The bass line lays down a solid foundation with a picked eighth-note pattern. Imagine a sleek spy plane cruising steadily at altitude. The root notes likely shift between the E and A strings, outlining the chords with a focus on the lower register. Think of it as the pilot navigating through different airspaces. Throughout the song, there are gonna be some syncopated accents thrown in. These are like the plane making sharp maneuvers, adding surprise and a touch of swagger to the groove. Into the Danger Zone: As the song progresses, the bass line breaks free from the simple pattern. Get ready for some walking bass lines that weave through the chords, creating a sense of urgency and intrigue. Think of the pilot dodging enemy radar or chasing a target through a maze of clouds. Lock On! The coolest part of the transcription might be the use of effects. A touch of wah-wah can simulate the plane breaking the sound barrier, while some octaver adds a growling, mechanical feel, like the whirring of powerful engines. Mission Complete: The ending brings the bass line back to earth with a flourish. Perhaps a descending chromatic line to depict the plane landing safely, or a series of funky slides for a more playful touch. This is just a roadmap, pilot! Feel free to add your own improvisational flourishes, double stops to mimic dogfights, or slap techniques for some extra punch. The sky's the limit (or rather, the atmosphere) with this Spy Plane bass transcription. Ready to take flight? Grab your bass and get groovin'!

Viola Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912917 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. Individual part. 7 pages. Brandon Nelson #1998627. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912917). A set of intriguing, contrasting miniatures for unaccompanied viola. Aimed at higher level players, this piece is ideal for any concert or recital setting. The first in this set, from darkness, rising, is a lyric caprice which gradually moves from darker modes to brighter modes (locrian to lydian). The next selection, Eidólons, has a veiled, mysterious quality. In this piece, I explore variations based on rhythmic alteration. An eidólon is a spirit or phantasm; the term was a favorite of American poet Walt Whitman. The third entry, Homeostatic, is built upon a concept I refer to as biofeedback music. In this case, I took regularly-spaced readings of my pulse rate and blood oxygen saturation percentage and performed basic arithmetic operations on these figures, the results of which I used to determine a number of musical facets (most notably the essential constituents of the rhythmic gestures). The final piece, Sapta Bodhyanga, I built on a wedge concept (in this case, seven intervals, each becoming larger, ending with the octave). The number seven also features prominently in the design of the rhythmic motives (with chance procedures used in the deployment of these figures). Given the concentration on this number and the use of aleatoric methods, I titled this piece after the Zen Buddhist concept sapta-bodhyang, or seven degrees of enlightenment.
