SATB choir, keyboard - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.50-7102-E Composed by Susan Borwick. Pentecost, Church Anniversary. 8 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #50-7102-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.50-7102-E). Inspired by the Holy Spirit's infilling of the Church at Pentecost, and by the Reverend Mary Anne Ramsey's words of prophecy centered on Acts II on Pentecost Sunday at Knollwood Church, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the author-composerhid those words in her heart and wrote the anthem in response in July 2006. The Spirit appears in three forms: as refining heat, as invisible air we take in, and as living rivers of nurturance. The shape of the text grows from the small, intimate sacred moments that the Spirit and we share, to the sweeping transformation of our lives as sustained by the Spirit. The multi-faceted relationship with the Spirit we enjoy carves out the sacred spaces of our lives.

Its diversity reflects the small regional and cultural spaces of Switzerland. Influences from other European countries have also shaped this kind of music since the early 19th century. Polka and Mazurka have their roots in Poland, the Scottish in Scotland. The music has been passed on by word of mouth or has been written down in musicians’ notebooks.Between 1940 and 1960, the ethnomusicologist Hanny Christen travelled through Switzerland and collected thousands of melodies from the period between 1800 and 1960. The musicians played or sang in front of her. Some permitted her to write off their own hand-written dance booklets in full. In 1956, Hanny Christen began to record this music with a tape recorder. It is thanks to her that over 12,000 instrumental dance movements of Switzerland and many other pieces of tradition (costumes, biographies, musical instruments etc.) were saved from being forgotten. The instruments used in traditional folk music vary depending on the type of dance and region. Flutes are more or less non-existent. The author would like to fill a gap with this publication. She has therefore adapted one folk dance per canton from the Hanny Christen-collection* for two flutes. The pieces from the cantons of Basel City, Thurgau and Geneva do not come from this source, though. The melodies from the other 23 cantons are taken unchanged from the collection. The second voice was not always composed quite traditional. The melody follows - if possible - a contrapuntal melody of its own and is directed to the flute (difficulty grade 3 +).The editor, Helene Schulthess, is a flutist with a wide repertoire. She lives in Switzerland. She performs as a soloist, makes chamber music and is active as a music teacher. She is involved in various musical projects (www.helene-schulthess.ch).* Swiss Folk Music Collection. The dance music of Switzerland of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. From the estate of Hanny Christen. Edited by Fabian Müller under the auspices of the Society for Folk Music in Switzerland (GVS/SMPS). Music print. Mülirad, Zürich 2002.

Published by Curtis Tipton (A0.978391). I compose in the fantasy genre as it at evokes a sense of adventure and imagination. I take pride in producing music that is both very teachable and playable. While ensuring the advancement and success of young musicians, my greatest success is creating music that captivates children and adults alike. I compose with the added mindset of music educators. While my pieces are lush, inspiring, and rich in concept, I know that rehearsal time is limited. Students, faculty and parents alike expect a great performance experience and a successful concert. My mission is to create beautiful spaces and opportunities for the self expression, inspiration and success of young musicians. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955732 Composed by Phil Thrift. Pop. Octavo. 19 pages. Phil Thrift #5805777. Published by Phil Thrift (A0.955732). Are you looking for a new song to celebrate someone’s birthday? If so, then Just Another Birthday Song – SATB Edition might well be what you’re looking for. Simple melody, simple harmonies, simple ideas, not too long and at times a mildly reflective take on the birthday theme. However, the text is never too serious – it’s someone’s birthday, after all! Plenty of unison singing and straightforward 4-part writing mean that this piece will not be difficult for any choir, can be easily slipped into any program. The spaces between the lines of text in the Bridge and the Outro leave you scope for adding a solo instrument or perhaps for someone to speak a few congratulatory words while the other choir members continue the song in the background. Indeed, measures 49-60 could even be repeated quietly to accompany a solo instrument or someone speaking. The possibilities for making this song more individual are endless! The well-known tunes will continue to feature at many birthday events, but Just Another Birthday Song – SATB Edition gives you the chance to present a refreshing, different and flexible musical number when honoring someone’s birthday.Chord symbols are included for use with a guitar instead of or in addition to piano.Choir parts without piano part are included. Also available separately:Solo voice version (with optional 2-part harmony) (A0.955730 or 1051903)Solo voice swing version for those who prefer a slightly jazzier birthday! Small Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.835769 Composed by Paul Burnell. Contemporary. Score and parts. 3 pages. Paul Burnell #3074281. Published by Paul Burnell (A0.835769). A text piece for one or more speakers with optional rhythmic percussion accompaniment performed ad libitum.Where the text is presented in bold the speakers should speak loudly, giving particular emphasis to text in capital letters. Where the text is presented in non-bold smaller text styles the speakers should speak less loudly or softer.   The speakers should vary the pitch of their voice throughout to give emphasis to the structure and to avoid a monotonous tonal delivery.   The repeated ‘words’ instinctively suggest a repetitive rhythmic style of delivery - this is fine.   The spaces in the text can be interpreted as rests. If there is more than one speaker the performers may either speak in unison throughout or stagger their entries and echo or overlap freely, but without losing the sense of the overall structure of the text.  Multiple speakers may also devise co-ordination points within the piece to co-ordinate collective unisons - then drift apart and overlap again.  A single speaker could also perform with an echoing sound effect that gives the impression of multiple voices. If performing with percussion, then a pulsed rhythmic style should be used.  The percussion may be freely chosen - drum kit, ‘found’ instruments, body percussion, pre-recorded backing track etc. - performing in any rhythmic style, but not detracting from or obscuring the vocal delivery. Programme note: ‘Wha-Do-Ya-Mean?’ was composed in 2008.   It was tested as a warm-up exercise for the CoMA London Ensemble, and then developed into a piece, first performed by Paul Burnell at Battersea Arts Centre, London in October 2008 and then included on the 2010 album ‘Sticking with Childish Things’.  It has subsequently been performed by CoMA Singers. The inspiration for the piece was derived from an increasingly fractious and reductive argument between two people, where one person was overheard saying What do you mean ‘what do you mean’?  This statement illustrated the pointlessness of the argument, and how comically ridiculous and meaningless it had become, and effectively ended it.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1324262 Composed by Amos Elkana. 21st Century,Contemporary. Score. 10 pages. Amos Elkana #912460. Published by Amos Elkana (A0.1324262). In this composition, we delve into the enigmatic world of Ikkyu Sojun, a 15th-century Zen Buddhist monk renowned for his poetry that defies conventional boundaries. Ikkyu's work often reflects Zen principles, blending deep philosophical insights with a stark, often provocative simplicity. Among his most striking poems is Crow with No Mouth, a piece that captures the essence of Zen’s emphasis on the ineffable nature of reality and the limits of language.Crow With No Mouth Hearing a crow with no mouthCry in the deepDarkness of the night,I feel a longing forMy father before he was born. In these lines, Ikkyu conjures an image that is as perplexing as it is profound. The crow, a traditional symbol of mystery and the unknown, is rendered even more inscrutable by its lack of a mouth - a paradoxical figure that seems to transcend ordinary existence. This poem encapsulates the Zen concept of mu, or the negation of fixed concepts, challenging the listener to embrace the boundless nature of understanding. In my composition, I have strived to translate this philosophical depth into music. The interplay between the piano and the voice is crafted to reflect the paradoxical imagery of the poem. The music moves through moments of tension and release, mirroring the poem’s journey from perplexity to a serene acceptance of the unknown. This piece is an invitation to explore the spaces between notes, between words, where the essence of understanding might lie.The emotional core of this composition is also deeply personal. It resonates with my own longing for my father, who passed away seven years prior to the creation of this work. Just as Ikkyu's poem reflects a yearning for a connection with the past, this music embodies my own journey of grief, memory, and the search for peace in the echoes of loss. The intertwining of my personal narrative with Ikkyu’s profound words aims to offer a universal contemplation on the themes of absence, longing, and the ephemeral nature of existence. In creating this work, my aim has been to offer not just a musical experience, but a doorway into the profound simplicity of Zen thought. Through the synthesis of voice, piano, and Ikkyu's evocative poetry, we embark on a journey that transcends the mere act of listening, inviting contemplation, and perhaps, a glimpse into the boundless sky of our own perception.
