3-part mixed choir, Piano - Digital Download

SKU: LX.15-3734H

Three Easy Spiritual Settings. Arranged by Douglas E. Wagner. General. Octavo. 20 pages. Heritage Music Press #e15/3734H. Published by Heritage Music Press (LX.15-3734H).

ISBN 9780787768300.

Doug Wagner's arrangement of three well-known spirituals will be easily learned by singers with developing voices. Creative piano parts set the mood for each title and provide ample support for singers. Each spiritual--Oh, Won't You Sit Down?, Deep River with All Night, All Day, and He's Got the Whole World In His Hands--may be performed separately or combined as a suite. With a light jazz style for the opening and closing titles and the middle title presented as a moderate tempo ballad, it's fun to rehearse and a great budget stretcher! Also available in two-part (15/3735H).

Small Ensemble Bells,Boomwhackers,Glockenspiel,Handbell,Multi-Percussion,Orff Instrument,Recorder,Ukulele,Voice,Xylophone - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.565149

By Sharon Wilson. By Spiritual. Arranged by Sharon Wilson. Children,Folk,Instructional,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 9 pages. Sharon Wilson #3497141. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565149).

This sheet music is notated for handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. Included in this set of scores is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-staff score for each instrument.

This set of scores uses colored noteheads corresponding to the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Handbells sold by Rhythm Band or KidsPlay also use this same color scheme (other brands may use different color schemes). Using color coded notes helps beginning musicians learn to read standard sheet music notation. This set of scores is also available (separate purchase) in black and white which will print clearer if you do not have access to a color printer.

Notes used for each instrument are as follows:
Bells – D E G A B C* where C* is high C, one octave above middle C
Boomwhackers® – C D E G A B C*

Though this sheet music is notated for Handbells and Boomwhackers®, this arrangement is playable by any 8-note, C major diatonic scale (one octave) instrument such as a xylophone or glockenspiel.

Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. Lyrics and chord names are provided as well to aid in the learning and teaching of this song. The staves are shown without sharps or flats for simplicity since even though this song is actually written in the key of G major, no sharps or flats are used.

The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one note to each person. Instrument assignment suggestions are provided on the last page for 7 or 13 players.

Other suggestions and uses:
* have both parts played by bells or both parts played using only Boomwhackers®
* form a choir using multiple sets of bells and/or Boomwhackers® (this would amplify the sound and allow more people to participate)
* use as part of the music education for children at school, home, or church
* these colorful, inexpensive instruments can be enjoyed by all ages and add a fun, unique element to activities and programs: senior centers, family reunions, church retreats, home school groups, just to name a few

Permission is granted to make up to 10 copies of each score. For more than 10 copies, please purchase additional sets.

TThis arrangement is one of the 10 songs included in the collection Ten Traditional Spirituals for 8-Note Bells and Boomwhackers®.

Boomwhackers® is a registered trademark of Rhythm Band Instruments, LLC. Used by permission.

Composed by Gustav Mahler. Arranged by Robert L. Anello. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 29 pages. Robert Anello #716008. Published by Robert Anello (A0.1114090).

Gustav Mahler’s “Veni Creator Spiritus†was a new musical setting for the lyrics of a 9th century Latin hymn, originally sung as a Gregorian chant, as an invocation of the Holy Spirit during the celebration of the Christian Feast of Pentecost. This work would comprise the Part I of the symphony with Part II being a setting of the words from the closing scene of “Faust†by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Mahler envisioned the premiere of this new symphony, Number 8, as a massively grand spectacle, with an orchestra not only including strings but a large brass and woodwind section, eight soloists, two full adult choruses, and a children’s choir. The full complement for the premiere was 171 instrumentalists and 858 singers, a total of 1029 musicians, which inspired the promoter to advertise the work as “Symphony of a Thousand.â€

Part I, “Veni Creator Spiritus,†expresses the whole range of human emotions: grand statements expressing the awe of divine majesty alternate with gentle melodic lines of tender love. It combines moments of awesome dramatic tension with the lightness of a fugue. Robert Anello’s arrangement makes this exceptional music accessible to large concert bands while maintaining the essence and flow of Mahler’s original work.

9 x 12 in inches.

Feel the Spirit is an arrangement of four pre-Civil War spirituals which were sung by slaves inAmerica. These were
Christian songs which described Bible stories (Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho) or about living with the spirit
of God (Every Time I Feel the Spirit). Sometimes the spirituals described the hardships of slavery (Nobody
Knows the Trouble I've Seen). Most interestingly, some spirituals had hidden meanings. In Swing Low, Sweet
Chariot it appears that the singer is talking about dying and going to heaven, but in actuality, home refers to a
place of freedom, and crossing the river Jordan means overcoming the obstacles to freedom.

Both Michael Row the Boat Ashore and There is a Balm in Gilead are Afro-American Spirituals. Charles Pickard Ware wrote down Michael Row the Boat Ashore after listening to slaves sing it as they worked on the plantations or rowed across water. The words ask Archangel Michael for help. There is a Balm in Gilead comes from both the Old and New Testaments.

Unitarian Minister, George Willis Cooke wrote a song in the later 1800’s that has become a campfire mainstay. I chose to list it as Down in My Heart. It’s also known as I’ve Got the Joy, I’ve Got that Joy, Joy, Joy and Joy, Joy, Joy.

This arrangement is playable on either Lever or Pedal Harps. Dynamics are clearly marked.
