The song was partly inspired by the polio vaccine taken by the songwriter's son, which was evident in the famous line A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine goes down. This arrangement was largely referencing the original movie soundtrack. The simple 2-part treble chorus, suitable for beginner and intermediate levels, is supported by the vivid and colourful piano accompaniment.
