String Quartet Cello,String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.750819

Composed by Rev. Clement Cotterill Scholefield (1839–1904). Arranged by Brendan Elliget MAGA 537. Christian,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 7 pages. BJE Music #3662755. Published by BJE Music (A0.750819).

This is an arrangement of the hymn tune St. Clement - The Day Thou Gavest Lord Is Ended - or Evening Hymn for Cello Quartet and is based on my arrangement for Horn Quartet and Orchestra - with a more appropriate key change - G to D.

St Clement, in 98. 98. meter is a popular British tune to John Ellerton's hymn The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, is Ended. The tune is generally credited to the Rev. Clement Cotterill Scholefield (1839–1904). It first appeared in Sir Arthur Sullivan's Church Hymns with Tunes (1874). Scholefield was born at Edgbaston, Birmingham, and was the youngest son of William Scholefield, MP for Birmingham. [Wikipedia]

Cello Duet Cello - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.821340

Composed by Sebastian Temple. Arranged by Judith L. Maggs. Christian,Contemporary,Religious,Sacred. Score. 14 pages. Maggs #6221911. Published by Maggs (A0.821340).

As we deal with turmoil in our nation (US) and the world, I find myself going back to the words of St. Francis: Lord, make me a channel of your peace. This arrangement of Sebastian Temple’s setting of the Prayer of St. Francis speaks to me, and I hope can speak to you in a real way.

The arrangement for cello duet with piano is entirely in the key of C, and except for a few 3rd position notes in the cello 1 part, can be played entirely in 1st position. It follows the form of Temple’s song: verse/verse/chorus/verse, with an added chorus/verse. The melody moves back and forth between the parts. Piano score and cello parts are included.

Although the piano part adds much to the arrangement, it can stand alone as a cello duet without accompaniment if desired.

This arrangement is also available for violin duet (Key of G) and viola duet (Key of C).

Composed by GORDON DALE 1935 - 2001). 20th Century,Christian,Concert,Praise & Worship,World. Octavo. 30 pages. Piper Publications #3436431. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811666).

Commissioned by Ross Choral Society for the Ross 700 Festival in 1984 and first performed by them on November 10th 1984, St. Luke's Anthem was very well received. It was composed from sketches Gordon made while in Farnborough Hospital in 1965. It is scored for S.A.T.B. choir with 2 trumpets, 2 trombones and organ and lasts for about 7.5 minutes. St. Luke's Anthem is well within the scope of most amateur choirs and the instrumental parts are not technically demanding.
Choir parts are available separately.

Midnight Train to St. Petersburg was inspired by the train ride itself during the composer’s trek to Russia in 2006. The trip was made by faculty and students of Wayland Baptist University’s School of Music to allow the University’s Pioneer Band to participate in Victory Day festivities in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Impressions of the countryside during the train ride itself, as well as the overwhelming beauty of the country and two of her cities, informed much of the music performed here.

A minimalistic approach to the composition seemed suitable. Persistent rhythmic patterns throughout the score invites listeners to imagine being inside a passenger rail car. An alternation between two- and three-eighth note groupings captures sound of steel wheels rolling along iron rails of varying lengths. The harmonies are simple, played almost entirely on open strings. Everyone involved in a performance can enjoy the exuberance of bright harmonic language. A short, simple melody, played by the upper strings is answered by the soloist - possibly the class instructor - who then is allowed some elaboration for a few measures.

Students attempting a strings-methods class often find their more advanced musicianship stifled by working only in rudimental instrumental methods. Since so many pitches are played on open strings, student’s left hands are eased through the performance while the right hands move binarily in short, quick strokes. The result is a work that gratifies the student musician while developing an appreciation and understanding of string performance.

Composed by George J. Elvey, 1859. Arranged by David Evan Thomas. Classical,Holiday,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score. 4 pages. Davidevanthomas.com #900085. Published by davidevanthomas.com (A0.1311113).

Set to Henry Alford's words, Come, Ye Thankful People, Come is one of the most popular hymns for Thanksgiving. This setting treats the tune as a chorale prelude for piano (or organ), with the tune in the soprano.

Hymnary.org tells us that English organist George Job Elvey (1816-1893 ), the composer of the tune, ST. GEORGE'S WINDSOR, was educated at Oxford and at the Royal Academy of Music. At age nineteen Elvey became organist and master of the boys' choir at St. George Chapel, Windsor, where he remained until his retirement in 1882. He was knighted after he provided music for Princess Louise's wedding in 1871.

Composed by Curtis Hanson. Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 59 pages. Curtis Hanson #2032867. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719523).

The Missa Millennia was composed during the spring of 2000 and premiered the following November by the choirs of the John Duss Music Conservatory, Duluth, MN. Scored for a chamber orchestra of strings, keyboard, and solo oboe (full score and instrumental parts available separately), the work is not so much a celebration of the new millennium as it is an assimilation of many of the musical styles, characteristics, and forms of the previous thousand years. The entire piece is in the form of the traditional Mass, a musical form having its origins in the Middle Ages, and is divided into the five movements commonly found in the Mass Ordinary: Kyrie (Lord, have mercy), Gloria (Glory to God in the highest), Credo (the Nicene Creed), Sanctus – Benedictus (Holy, holy, holy – Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord), and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). In the final movement, the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace) concludes the work. Although the Missa Millennia as a whole is distinctly contemporary, elements from many earlier musical periods are incorporated into the movements. These include chant, open fifth and parallel fifth harmonic movement (organum), and canonic imitation from the Middle Ages and Renaissance; fugue, word-painting, terraced dynamics, ostinato (a repeated rhythmic or bass accompaniment), Alberti bass accompaniment figures, ABA form, and dominant-tonic harmonic relationships typical of Baroque and Classical music to name but a few. Other significant features are the usage of non-Western modality in the plaintive solo oboe and of pedal point, a sustained tone in the bass over which the melody and harmony evolve. Pedal point, a compositional tool used throughout music history, dates from the Middle Ages about the time of St. Francis. Although not directly based upon the music of any composer, the astute listener may hear musical ideas reminiscent of Vivaldi, Vaughan Williams, Respighi, Duruflé, and others. In the audio file, the 2nd movement (Gloria) can be found at approximately 6'25, the 3rd movement (Credo) at 12'05, the 4th movement (Sanctus) at 21'15, and the final movement (Agnus Dei) at 31'05. The complete Mass is approximately 43 minutes long.
