Noch vor Hitlers Machtergreifung ging er nach Mailand und eröffnete eine Musikschule. Als Jude war er auch hier bald Diskriminierungen ausgesetzt. Er bewarb sich als Violinlehrer an den belgischen Königshof. Nach dem Einmarsch der Deutschen in Belgien gab ihm seine Schülerin Königin Elisabeth Papiere und er floh nach Südfrankreich. Weil er keinen gültigen Pass mehr besaß, galt er als staatenlos und wurde interniert. Danach wanderte er nach Portugal aus, wo er den Rest seines Lebens verbrachte. Die Technischen Paraphrasen über Kreutzer-Etüden wurden von den bekannten Violinlehrern seiner Zeit (Flesch, Kreisler, Sevcik, Pollak u.a.m.) hochgelobt. In Deutschland durften sie aufgrund von Jacobsens jüdischer Herkunft nicht mehr lange aufgelegt werden, aber wurden weiterhin im englischen Subverlag ausgeliefert.

This is the first time this term was mentioned, under which ca. 50 lyrical piano pieces by Mendelssohn became popular later. In his lifetime the composer had six volumes printed, and another two collections were compiled and published posthumously. It is composed in the 16th Century Italian style of music played at St. Marks Cathedral in Venice, Italy. It is in this period that brass instruments are first used extensively. Most of the 16th Century canzonas were written in four parts, where the tuba player plays the same as the trombone down an octave. Gregory Fritze has performed in brass quintets for many years playing the 16th Century canzonas this way. The few 16th Century canzonas that are in five parts use the title ‘a5 depicting in five parts, as this Canzona does.Canzona ‘a5 was recorded Spanish Brass and is on the CD Music for Brass Quintet by Gregory Fritze on the Spanish Brass label.Duration of Canzona ‘a5 is 2 minutes.
