SKU: A0.1111957

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Peter Le Tissier. Chamber,Classical,Instructional. Score and Parts. 52 pages. Peter Le Tissier #714134. Published by Peter Le Tissier (A0.1111957).

Before tackling the final Piano Sonata I thought I'd take a little break from the 'serious' orchestrations and present this interpretation of Beethoven's charming set of Bagatelles, op. 126. Postdating (as far as I'm aware) the 9th Symphony, and certainly all the major piano works, these Bagatelles stand apart from the earlier sets, elevated beyond their status in spite of Beethoven's own 'kleinigkeiten' demonym for them. In particular, the final movement is in this version an extraordinary expansion on the previous 5, quoting as it does the infinity of the finale of the Op. 111 Piano sonata.

SKU: A0.808689

Composed by W. Benton Overstreet (1888-1935). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Graduation,Holiday,Jazz,Traditional. Score and parts. 30 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #4331333. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808689).

William Benton Overstreet did it all-played piano, wrote songs, led bands. Probably the accomplishment for which he’s most remembered today is his composing of There’ll Be Some Changes Made, published in 1921. Billy Higgins, popular stage comedian, wrote the lyrics, and Ethel Waters, then just 24, recorded the song on the Black Swan label. The disc quickly achieved hit status, and the song has remained popular across multiple musical platform styles ever since.
This arrangement is a happy, fun piece and includes some of the great (and familiar) Vaudeville-style ornaments and phrases. It’s a real toe-tapper.
For the most part this arrangement is up-tempo, about 140 bpm. It does slow to 92 at the first iteration of the verse and again for the final ¬6 measures of the piece. Time signature is 4/4 except for measure 89, which is 6/4. The key is B-flat throughout, and the melody weaves among all instruments.
Trumpet 1 plays B5 (B-flat trumpet’s high C) briefly at measures 4 and 35 and for two measures at the very end of the piece. Tuba plays G3 briefly several times in measures 90-93. Other than that, there are no exceptionally out-of-normal-range notes. Trumpets 1 and 2 may wish to double-tongue at measure 64.
This arrangement was completed in 2019, and performance time runs about 3 minutes, 30 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, would be very interested in your comments; contact him at lessmith@ufl.edu. Composed by Jason McChristian. Concert,Contemporary. Individual part. 6 pages. Jason Gary McChristian #238171. Published by Jason Gary McChristian (A0.886112).

Dashed a tone of light rose for solo flute The title of this work is taken from a quote by the American painter John Sargent, in which he described the moment in painting Madame X that changed his view from one of dissatisfaction into one of utter joy and renewed inspiration. In dashed a tone of light rose, I sought to create the mixture of rawness and refinement found in Madame X, a once-controversial painting. The tension in this music represents not only the tarnished reputation of the artist, but also that of Madame Gautreau, the subject of the painting, whose status as a Parisian socialite was irrevocably destroyed. Throughout the work, both artist and subject are characterized by changes in tessitura. Though the artist's reputation was altered, ultimately it continued to remain intact through his lifetime, and it is he who gained our notoriety while the woman's misery has been largely forgotten.

Composed by Bertold Hummel. This edition: choral score. Schott Choral Music. Downloadable, Choral score. Op. 97e, 2. Duration 4 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q7077. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7077).

Latin.

This Ave Maria is an arrangement made by Bertold Hummel in December 1997 of his motet Gegrüßet seist du, Maria [Hail Maria] (C 53714) which he had composed on 20 May 1993 with a dedication in memory of his deeply religioues sister Erika. This Latin version was dedicated to the Cathedral Music Master Siegfried Koesler in Berold Hummel also co-founded the Bruckner Festival in Würzburg together with Koesler and Erwin Horn, a specialist in the opening section of their sorks and Bertold Humme quotes Bruckner's final cadence on the name of Jesus prios to the Amen. The text of the so-called Angelic Salutaion is based on the Bible passages from the Gospel of St Luke (luke 1, 28b, 42) which was extended over the centuries with additions such as Jesus (14th century) and the Invocation to Mary. This text was included in the Breviary of Pope Pius V in 1568 which officially confirmed its status as a prayer.
