Brass Ensemble Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.940772

Composed by Nick Walkley. Christian,Contemporary,Patriotic,World. Score and parts. 15 pages. Nick Walkley #3433499. Published by Nick Walkley (A0.940772).

This is a meditative arrangement of a well known Norwegian hymn. The arrangement sets three verses of the melody 'bookended' by a mirrored introduction and coda. It was originally written for and performed by the cornet section of the Band of the Welsh Guards, before being also expanded to military (wind) and brass band formats.

In the hymn, one sings of a hopeful final journey to a place without worry or sorrow. The arrangement reflects the mood of these three verses, with increaing tension and movement through ascending lines as the journey progresses towards a final resting place. The hymn is regularly used at funerals and memorial services.

The text was originally old German and translated to Norwegian by Bernt Støyland in 1905. Translated to English, the text reads as:

I know a castle in heaven above, shining as bright as the sun; you'll find no sin nor sorrow there, and never a tear is shed.

I am a weary traveller; may my path lead me from here to my Father's land; God, bless me on my way.

We thank you for eternity God the Father, one in three. For you are gentle and mild to us in Jesus Christ! Amen.

Note to performers:

The opening and closing sections require precision in the start and release of notes for the chord progression to function. Attention to detail should be paid to each individual crescendi, diminuendi and articulation. This is excellent training for all brass musicians!

SKU: A0.776998

Composed by Jon Arterton. Contemporary. Octavo. 33 pages. Jon Arterton #34815. Published by Jon Arterton (A0.776998).

This dramatic 12-minute piece captures the agony and brutality of the First World War. It begins with a gentle setting of Robert Burns' famous poem Red, Red Rose. The lyrical sounds of the bucolic countryside gradually give way to the electrifying poetry of First World War poet Wilfred Owen. The horrors of gas warfare are brought to life with rhythmic intensity and passion. The title Dulce et Decorum Est is the old lie according to Owen: It is sweet and right to die for your country. The piece ends with a comforting chorale-like setting of the composer's words: Light eternal shines all around them, resting forever, finally at rest. A performance of the piece with accompanying images can be seen on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z-PPk6uXAI. Scored for SATB chorus, narrator, piano/organ, flute, trumpet, timpani/chime and strings. Full Score. Chorus with piano reduction (JA221) and parts (JA223) also available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z-PPk6uXAI&t=206s.

RAGING FURIES - Rasende Furien
Goddesses of revenge - Göttinnenn der Rage

Concert Piece for big orchestra - Score and Parts

The image of the raging furies as a topos has permeated the world of thoughts and images of mankind for thousands of years and has inspired and fascinated countless artists.
This idea is also based on an emotional background, a violent, uncontrolled emotional outburst, a rage (Latin: furor, in the sense of frenzy, passion and madness, French: rage). The resulting affect action is described as rage or fury, combined with a state of mind of uncontrolled excitement in the sense of being beside oneself or out of one's senses.
The personification of these affects was in Greek and Roman mythology with the trio of vengeance goddesses, the Erinyens (Latin furia) called: Alekto (the incessant, the never resting), Megaira (German: Megäre, the envious anger) and Tisiphone (the Vengeance avenging the murder, represented with a dog's head and bat's wings), and another, that of Nemesis (the reconciling justice). Already in antiquity they were depicted in sculptures, embossed on coins or immortalized as images on amphorae.
They appear in all eras of fine arts, sometimes in female, male or androgynous form, e.g. as avenging angels, or as hybrid beings between humans and animals. Pictures by Albrecht Dürer, Hieronymus Bosch, Tizian, Peter Paul Rubens, William Hamilton, Johann Heinrich Fuessli, Franz von Stuck, Alfred Kubin, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Yongbo Zhao and many others are proof of this.
They found their way into the literature of Virgil (Aeneis), Dante (Divine Comedy) or John Milton (Paradise Lost). Goethe lets them appear in Faust II, Schiller (Die Kraniche des Ibykus) and many others refer to them directly or in a modified form, such as Kurt Tucholsky (Gripsholm Palace), Alfred Döblin (Berlin Alexanderplatz), Max Frisch (Homo Faber) or Jean-Paul Sartre (The Flies).
In opera, they become an important element in highly dramatic scenes, especially on themes with a mythological or historical background, often also related to the underworld, as in Monteverdi (Il Ritorno d`Ulisse in Patria), Lully (Armide), Gluck (Orpheus and Euridice) or Purcell (Dido and Aeneas). Haendel dedicates an aria to them in Rinaldo, the Furie Terribili. Mozart also uses it in The Magic Flute, in his aria Der Hölle Rache by the Queen of the Night.
Furies appear up to the present in various forms, in comics, fantasy novels, computer games, or kung fu films of the 70s (Furies on the yellow river). They are even popular as plastic children's toys, mostly in particularly frightening and creepy presentations (Matchbox/Fighting Furies or Warhammer/Erinnye). This remarkable history and reception inspired Rainer Fabich to create this new orchestral work from his MYThS series. PEGASUS - Ride on Wings, ULYSSES - Prélude to an Odyssey and THE AMONZS - Myth and Projection have already been released. As the title suggests, this is frantically wild music (Allegro molto vivace) that seems to run away, like an action film with fast motives and runs of strings and woodwinds, combined with strong accents of brass and massive percussion Set. Alternations of straight and asymmetrical beats illustrate erratic sequences of movement, as are typical of scenes with the highest intensity, especially in films (e.g. a chase). In the jazzy middle section, the furies calm down a little, before they pick up speed again in a bombastic third section and increase to the point of ecstasy.

Relieve Thou, O God, each one
In suffering on land or sea,
In grief or wounded or weeping,
And lead them to the house of Thy peace this night.

I am weary, weak and cold,
I am weary of travelling land and sea,
I am weary of traversing moorland and billow,
Grant me peace in the nearness of Thy repose this night.

Beloved Father of my God,
Accept the caring for my tears ;
I would wish reconcilement with Thee,
Through the witness and the ransom of Thy Son;

To be resting with Jesus
In the dwelling of peace,
In the paradise of gentleness;
Lead me, Lord, to the house of thy peace this night..

Composed by Angela Salvaggione. Score and Parts. 7 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #IMS163. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.IMS163).

9 x 12 in inches.

Silver Vanguard is a piece in rondo form that brings to mind strength. The first section (mm 1-8) should be strongly accented, and all notes should be separated, depicting a medieval military group moving into protect a town. The second theme (mm 9-16) requires a quiet but firm strength and signifies the militia standing quietly at the ready. All quarter notes with tenuto marks should have weight to them. Listen carefully for the initial militant theme as it returns in the piano part (mm 17-24); it should be played strongly and heard clearly. The third theme, depicting the village resting peacefully, unaware of the battle, is in the new key of D major. Pay attention to the F#s and the C# at the end of this lyrical section. The first theme returns again at measure 39 in yet another new key, e minor. The piece builds from here to the end as the village is saved. The bassoon part states the same idea four times in measures 45-48, and each statement should be stronger than previous one.

SKU: A0.844444

Composed by Phil Beaman. 20th Century,Multicultural,New Age,Sacred,World. 4 pages. Phil Beaman #3364773. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844444).

The current media call this style of music Spiritual Minimalism. This particular composition utilizes the centering 'ah' of Buddhism, the meditative resting periods of Zen, the plainchant of Christianity, the minimalism of New Age, and more.
The lyrics quote only the first 3 phrases of the traditional Ave Maria text. These 6 words are in common across most usages regardless of region or religion or purpose and impart a broader blessing. These 6 words are interspersed throughout the piece with the Ave (Hail) high in the range for celebration, Gratia (Grace) mid-range for acceptance, and Dominus (God) low in the range for humility.
The vocal range of the song is thus quite large - a full two octaves. The High version goes from a B flat below the Treble Staff to an A flat above the Treble Staff. The Low version (a third lower) goes from a low G to a high F.
The accompaniment is a circling minimalist 2 chord ostinato for the entire piece.
Whether for personal meditation or public performance, this piece will relax, focus, and recharge all who perform it and hear it.
