Broadway,Contemporary,Early Music,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 1 pages. Marcelo Borba #1087701. Published by Marcelo Borba (A0.1512732). Leadsheet style The theme song for the animated television series The Smurfs is an iconic and catchy tune that is instantly recognizable to many. The theme song was composed by Belgian musician Pierre Kartner, who is also known by his stage name Vader Abraham. Kartner composed the song in 1977 specifically for the Dutch-language animated television series called De Smurfen, which was based on the comic strip created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo. The song's original Dutch title is La la la (Het Smurfenlied), which translates to La la la (The Smurf Song) in English. The lyrics are simple and repetitive, with the chorus consisting mainly of La la la la la la followed by Smurf, smurf, smurf on, reflecting the playful and whimsical nature of the Smurfs. The success of De Smurfen led to the production of an English-language version of the series, simply titled The Smurfs, which premiered in the United States in 1981. For the English version, the theme song was adapted and sung by a group called The Hanna-Barbera Singers, with William Hanna and Joseph Barbera being the producers of the American series.Since its creation, the Smurfs theme song has become synonymous with the beloved blue characters and has remained a staple of the franchise across various adaptations, including films and subsequent television series. Its infectious melody and simple lyrics have helped it endure as a beloved piece of pop culture around.
