Soprano voice,Vocal Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.796586 Composed by Gary D. Belshaw (ASCAP). Contemporary,Musical/Show,Opera. 20 pages. DR GARY D BELSHAW #2926491. Published by DR GARY D BELSHAW (A0.796586). Includes Accompanist copy at half price! 20 pages. Duration: 41/2 minutes     Are mezzo sopranos known ONLY for singing the Habanera? Of course not, but it is one of their most requested arias.     So, dispel the misinformation! Clear the air! Defend your mighty status as a Mezzo Soprano with this veritable laugh riot of an aria. When a Mezzo directs an opera is your opportunity to promote the splendor of this wonderful voice type, to take your stand, and assume your place among the most noble, most intellectually stable, and most erudite soprano - well, at least the most likely to survive at the hands of some tenor!     The first aria to be published from Gary Belshaw’s hilarious Two Act Music Comedy, Incident at Burro Java (coming soon to Sheet Music Plus, When a Mezzo will delight your audience during a recital or as part of an Opera Workshop or Opera Scenes program. The role was created in April 2016 by Cloyce Kuhnert, a director of opera herself. Cloyce brought a lot of personal experience to the role in the premiere. The more you know about opera and opera plots, the more often you’ll laugh. But you don’t have to be an aficionado to have a tough time singing some of these lines without snickering or outright bursting with laughter yourself. And we all know what snickering can do to your vocal apparatus, right?!     The audio clip is from the premiere of the music comedy Incident at Burro Java. Cloyce Kuhnert is the mezzo on the recording, and the Plainview Symphony Orchestra was conducted by the composer.

UPC: 038081278117.More Cowbell was inspired by the famous television skit featuring a rock band, a record producer, and an over-zealous cowbell player. If the cowbell player is good at hamming it up (and rocking out!), you could try the following staging suggestions: Cowbell player plays with intensity and lots of movement, and starts moving in measure 17 toward the front of the band, ending up next to the conductor in measure 24, bowing to the audience on beat 4. Conductor gives a stern look and gestures to student to get back in the percussion section (possibilities: slit throat gesture with side of first finger followed by pointing forcefully to the back, or similar gestures). Student slinks back, starts playing cowbell again, but quietly this time. Playing gradually picks up intensity, and player starts again toward the front in measure 41, reaching the front by measure 48. In measure 48, either A) Conductor waves hands violently for student to stop, or B) have a couple of students place a large blanket over the cowbell player. This works, but only for one measure (player quits and doesn't move in bar 49). Cowbell player resumes playing with a vengeance in measure 50 (either in spite of the teacher or under the blanket!). String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.933521 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Cees Nieuwenhuizen. Arranged by Upstream Music. Classical. Score and parts. 18 pages. Upstream Music #6353295. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933521). Both the Adagio molto (Hess 40) and the unfinished, originally intended Fugue date from November, 1817. It was the publisher Tobias Haslinger who requested a prelude and fugue for a publication in line with works published earlier. Beethoven completed the prelude but with the fugue he stopped after merely four bars of music. The short original fugue theme was later inserted into the second part (Molto vivace) of the Ninth Symphony (Opus 125).The prelude (Beethoven did not give any time indication) starts with 37 bars of solemn music followed by 12 bars Allegro. In terms of form, rhythm, and key, this material shows great similarity to the Molto vivace from Opus 125 referred to above. The present version has been arranged for a string orchestra instead of for a string quintet, thus being the first publication which enables it to be performed in its entirety. In order to balance the foundation, I opted for introducing a contrabass part, which largely follows the cello part composed by Beethoven. As regards the phrasing, dynamics, and rests as well as the time indication, this publication follows those in Willy Hess’ publication. So the prescribed time ‘Adagio molto’ is not that of Beethoven himself. The arguments to link the Maestoso to the Fugue in D major (Opus 137) published later are multiple. In the first place, the Fugue also dates from 1817. Secondly, the key is the same as is the number of instruments for a string quintet with two separate alto parts. Not only does the original fugue theme start at the tone a, but the timing too is the same, that is 3/8. So it seems reasonable to assume that Beethoven intended both works as a couple. The abnormal rhythmics of the bars 38 up to and including 49 is remarkable. I have preserved it because the part has been authentically composed by Beethoven, while it did not seem logical to me to have it immediately followed by the Fugue completed by myself. I have composed a number of bars of music based on the beginning of the prelude by way of a smooth transition. In the Fugue, I closely adhere to Beethoven, at the same time introducing a contrabass part here as well, so as to support the cello. At a number of places in the score, Beethoven recorded neither music nor rests. This refers to the bars 5 (second viola and cello), 11, 12, 25 and 26 (first and second violins), 39 to 41 (all parts), 43 and 44 (all parts except the first violin), 45 (first viola) and finally 45 and 46 (second violin). As in Willy Hess’ publication, I have just inserted rests here.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.935385 Composed by Dan Heslink. Contemporary. Score and parts. 36 pages. Pharaoh Publications #5775261. Published by Pharaoh Publications (A0.935385). One Hour to Madness for percussion septet.                            by Dan Heslink From its opening motto to its bold closing summation, One Hour to Madness explores a high degree of musical energy. The title is loosely inspired by Walt Whitman’s marvelous poem, One Hour to Madness and Joy (Leaves of Grass). The music presents a dark and exciting expression couched in pervasive contrapuntal development. A high degree of dissonance is contrasted with the second theme’s clear Bb major tonality. The work’s contrapuntal nature is distilled into a fugato in the second half.  Predominantly a mallet ensemble composition, scoring is for orchestra bells (2 mallets), xylophone (2 mallets), vibraphone (4 mallets), 3 marimbas (each with 2 mallets) and timpani. The timpani part is best performed on the standard set of 4 drums (23-24, 25-26, 28-29, 32-30). The marimba 1 part requires the standard range of 3 ½ or 4 octaves; the marimba 2 part can be executed on the standard 4-octave instrument by omitting a few octave doublings, or on a 5-octave instrument if one is available; marimba 3 requires a 5-octave instrument.  The composer assigns a difficulty level of advanced. It will serve any concert or recital very well. Audiences and performers alike will enjoy the flashy passage work and musical impetus afforded by One Hour to Madness. Duration is 3:41. The composer, Dan Heslink, can be contacted at dan@dheslink.com.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1306194 Composed by Kim Diehnelt. 21st Century,Classical. Score and Parts. 41 pages. Kim Diehnelt #895577. Published by Kim Diehnelt (A0.1306194). For Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3; Viola 1, Viola 2; Cello 1, Cello 2; Bass. The work also has a section using solo violin, solo viola, and solo cello. All parts are essential; parts 2 and 3 are less complex.About 7 -8 minutes. This includes Score and Parts. $28.00 Program note: The work opens with the majestic scene of spring’s first daybreak as the morning light shines on the snow-covered peaks of the Adirondacks. The sun, finally high enough in the sky to meet the snowy slopes and valley treetops, sets them ablaze.  And then it begins. Joyfully, a world comes back to life. Rivers thaw and unbound streams of fresh-melted water bounce, gurgle and surge. Animals stir, birds reappear, all rushing through the days, now relieved of the weight of winter. Hesitantly, bright-green sprouts, fuzzy buds, and flowers emerge. The springtime world dances. And all the while, the sun continues to rise, earlier and earlier, frantically, like a hound dashing to overtake its shadow. This galloping energy brings us to the majestic and final sunrise of spring, for summer will now insist on its turn. And as the morning fades into brilliant day, we are left with only a memory. A memory guaranteed to return. Next spring.
