Piano,Voice Duet Piano,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.889855 Composed by Gary Friedman. Children,Jewish. 6 pages. Gary Friedman #6465. Published by Gary Friedman (A0.889855). Sophie Friedman, my granddaughter, wrote 4 short poems for school when she was 8 years old. I set these to music in the form of little children's songs. The 4 short (about 2 minutes each) are Halloween, Hanukkah (the only Jewish song), Cricket, and Winter-Summer Diamante. A diamante is a diamond-shaped poem starting with one word in the first line and ending with one word in the last line. The sound clip is of Halloween.sung by Paula Arciniega, mezzo-soprano, with John McCarthy at the piano. If you listen to Hanukkah, I think you will laugh. (Any proceeds that I get from selling these songs go to Sophie.).

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773363 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Max Stannard. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and parts. 10 pages. Max Stannard Music #73929. Published by Max Stannard Music (A0.773363). This short piece is taken from Elgar's Saga of King Olaf. The work was criticised for its lyrics and story but the melodies are some of Elgar's finest from his pre-Enigma works. As Torrents in Summer is the soulful final chorus which brings the work to a moving climax. This piece would make perfect incidental music or a nice reflective moment in a recital. Brass Quintet: Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba Duration: 2mins.

Jazz Combo - Digital Download SKU: A0.979628 Composed by Roger Aldridge. Jazz,Latin. Score and parts. 1 pages. Roger Aldridge #427655. Published by Roger Aldridge (A0.979628). Goodbye To Summer is a gentle and reflective bossa nova. While this tune is AABA, it has an unusual structure. The first A section is 11 bars (repeated), the B section is 4 bars, and the last A section is 7 bars. The entire form is 33 bars. The bridge goes into a slower tempo and is to be played freely. The last A section was truncated, from 11 bars to 7, to have a lead-in for the soloist that suddenly comes out of nowhere. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1143904 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Religious. Octavo. 37 pages. Studio at the Post #744209. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1143904). Duration: 16 minutes, 33 pp. Description: Exodus is a great story that belongs to everyone. Not only is it central to Judaism, not only is it integral to the Christian Bible, it is an immortal story that has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to oppressed peoples everywhere on this planet. It is relevant not just as ancient scripture but as living text, to be rediscovered by each new generation of an ever-widening Family of Man. The theme of struggle against oppression and slavery was just as relevant to the early Christians persecuted in Ancient Rome as it was relevant to the American Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, just as relevant to the Soviet Jews wishing to emigrate as it is to the South African Blacks resisting Apartheid. From the Dark Ages and the Spanish Inquisition, to Ghandi's emancipation of India, to the Holocaust, to, full-circle, the ongoing struggles in Palestine today, the story of Exodus is a guiding light in a dim and often grim world. According to the composer: The Story of a Leader is a collection of ‘re-chorales’ I created one summer when I was totally immersed in a post-educational obsession with the 371 Chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach. We used to study these to learn the rules of harmony and voice-leading (no parallel fifths, avoid crossed voices, etc.) at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I began my compositional career. That summer, now a professor of music in my own right, I discovered many broken and bent rules by the master himself and, along with the glory of being able to work through these Chorales myself at the piano, I felt an incredible feeling of liberation and possibilities unmediated by instructors of music theory. I began by stripping away all that Bach wrote, leaving only the hymn tunes which were not his to begin with. These tunes existed long before Bach used them for his tonal experiments, some attributed to Martin Luther, or someone else, others simply listed as ‘anonymous’. The same is true for the texts, which were then translated into English mostly in the 19th century (the provenance of each can be found herein on the first page of each of my reharmonizations). In some cases I modified the text to fit the context. I selected 12 of these ‘re-chorales,’ linking them together based on their texts in a kind of logic that worked for me, and created a narrative that told The Story of a Leader (Moses). This story is highlighted in the music with such techniques as cross-modal harmonies, points of imitation, a beer drinking song in one instance, and in another, to symbolize the parting of the seas for Moses’ people, an inversion of the soprano line in the bass..

Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and  Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of  leaves swirling. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing! In Clouds,  Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot!  Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the  themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite.

Oboe Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927664 Composed by Joseph Hollings. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 3 pages. Joseph Hollings Publishing #6683341. Published by Joseph Hollings Publishing (A0.927664). Duration: approx 4:00The Cry of Beltane for solo oboe was written for and premiered by an advanced, young oboe student, Leo Sherwood, and first performed in May 2017 as part of the Cleveland Composers Guild’s Creativity: Learning through Experience program. The piece was the program opener and is ideally suited to open a recital.Beltane is the anglicized name of the Celtic festival held on May Day, a pagan festival signifying the beginning of summer. The piece is intended to evoke a ritualistic, call to summer; a crying out and calling forth of sun and growth. The piece should sound aggressive and the oboe should aim to make the most of its harder-edged timbre, rather than its lyrical qualities. While the notation is precise, the piece should sound as if the performer had improvised it. The bigger the contrast in dynamics the better.Joseph Hollings (ASCAP) is a composer, arranger and music educator, and has taught music to students of all levels for over twenty five years. His arrangements have been performed internationally, including in London's West End, and have been recorded by the Onyx Brass Quintet and members of the Cleveland Orchestra. He studied composition with Harrison Birtwistle at King's College London, worked for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, and established Really Nearly Records with the ever-imaginative Tim Ten Yen. Joseph Hollings is a member of ASCAP.
