Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1031907

Composed by Francisco Martín-Quintero. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 27 pages. Francisco Martín-Quintero #3685863. Published by Francisco Martín-Quintero (A0.1031907).

ON THE KEYS (INMANENCIA III)
Chords that tremble because their notes trill, tremble, move fast to not perish, complex arpeggios rising and falling as sound blasts, brief but wide melodies, just three or four notes, dissonant, quasi solemn, apparent scales ascending, descend, without getting anywhere, textures at last with a static vocation, looking for its instant, its present... Every texture wants to stay. The horizontal occurs only because time passes, not because the sound aspires to happen, it seeks its moment by recreating itself, renouncing what will come for what it is, the transcendent for the immanent ...

On the Keys occurs from the instrument's keyboard. That title, a frequent indication in the current scores to return to the interpretation on the keyboard, is my way of protesting the over-exploitation of the interpretation of the harp and other surfaces of the piano, my way of being bold in this 21st century.

The work is dedicated to the italian maestro Cosimo Colazzo.

Piano and Double Reeds - Digital Download

SKU: IZ.CMW211

Composed by Daniel Baldwin. Score and Parts. 86 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CMW211. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMW211).

9 x 12 inches.

My wife and I love to travel together. We are always looking for places to go together, as well as excuses to include each other in our own individual travels. One of my personal favorite travel opportunities is the International Double Reed Society conference. It is an opportunity to catch up with friends, make new friends and contacts, and make beautiful music. A number of years ago, I started the All Star Double Reed Band that has now premiered over a dozen new pieces for large double reed ensemble, and has recorded an album of those works. As a combined labor of love, I wrote Impressions of Yellowstone for my wife, a concert pianist, to perform with this group.

The first movement, “Little Grand Canyon opens with a chorale in the piano illustrating the simple majesty of the great and wondrous park that my wife and I visit annually with her parents. From there, the music exemplifies my impression of this wondrous landscape; beautiful, powerful. A deep valley with a waterfall on one end, it is one of the more beautiful sites to see in Yellowstone.

The second movement, Grand Prismatic, is a musical impression of the different perspectives of this very famous Yellowstone landmark. From the overlook, you see a stunning pond with steam emanating from it and surrounded by color. However, if you are to go down and stand next to the hotspot, your perspective changes greatly. Sulfur smells, danger from the soft crust (with boiling sulfuric liquid just below the surface), and a hot, steamy fog of mist permeate the area.

In the finale, Old Faithful, tone painting is brought out in full force as the opening piano solo material brings about the image of the geyser bubbling and building below the surface. Then, at the point of explosion, you hear the water falling and the delight of all of the dozens of onlookers who visit this most famous site at Yellowstone every day.

The original version, for double reeds, is dedicated the All Star Double Reed Band and my wife, Tammy Miller, who recorded it on the Co-Op Press label.

The version for piano and string orchestra is dedicated to Tammy and the National Composers Orchestra who recorded it on the Baldwin Records label.

Flute and orchestra - difficult - Digital Download

SKU: S9.Q25027

For flute and orchestral groups. Composed by Joerg Widmann. This edition: piano reduction with solo part. Il Flauto traverso. Downloadable, Piano reduction with solo part. Duration 22 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q25027. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q25027).

This ‚Suite’ is not one of my ‘epic’ instrumental concertos such as the concertos for cello, violin or oboe, but a substantially smaller-structured series of dance forms arranged into a suite. Sunken worlds suddenly emerge here, only to reach the surface, hover in dangerously distorted fashion and then sink back to the bottom. Almost every individual movement allots the solo flute a specific tonal colouring and an instrumental group from the orchestra: in the opening Allemande, the flutes of the orchestra (including alto and bass flute and later also piccolo to include the entire flute family); the string section in the Sarabande; in both chorales (extremely muted in the first and brutalist in the second), the brass etc.; and it is only in the concluding Badinerie that all orchestral groups are combined, although they are terraced in the Baroque style, one following another, seldom all playing simultaneously. This permits the flute to remain the provider of all impulses; it attaches itself to the wide variety of instrumental colours, becomes suffused with these colours and thereby shines in different lights – acerbic, pale and radiant. This first performance marks the conclusion of my two-year residence with the Cleveland Orchestra. The immense versatility of this fine body of sound (which is indeed treated as such with the sum of its parts) and the exciting dark timbre of its principal flautist Joshua Smith have to a great extent determined the form and tonal character of my Flûte en suite. Jörg Widmann

Guitar quartet - Digital Download

SKU: ZZ.DZ-4322

Composed by Fernando Sor. Arranged by Eddie Healy. Score and parts. 49 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4322. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4322).

When I undertook my arranging project, Fernando Sor: Beneath the Surface, I had not yet conceived of another. Yet, Sor’s works are so charming and rich that I felt compelled to delve deeper. Again, I have taken a number of his works for solo guitar and expanded them here. This has enabled me to furnish each voice, those composed by Sor and those I’ve added, with a degree of independence that enables them to simultaneously behave independently of the others and to interact with and react to them more freely.
I hope that this will inspire guitar students and more seasoned players alike to examine the structural underpinnings of his works when crafting their interpretations much as I have in producing these arrangements.

SKU: A0.934203

Composed by Mark Zanter. Contemporary. Score and part. 32 pages. MJIC Music Publishing (ASCAP) #3130847. Published by MJIC Music Publishing (ASCAP) (A0.934203).

Kaleidoscope (2007) commissioned by David Wright, was written while my wife and I were in residence at the David and Julia White Artists Colony, Costa Rica. The tropical location was stunning but , other than permitting luxurious amounts of time to work things out. it was not a direct source of inspiration for the work.

Kaleidoscope employs the Fibonacci sequence (1+1+2+3+5+8…) to control surface rhythm and large sectional proportions. Though I am often explicitly concerned with proportion and its integration at various levels of most pieces I compose; I had never used Fib. because it seemed too easy, and I typically do not like to use processes that are external to a piece. None-the-less I really enjoyed working with the sequence and was pleasantly surprised when the last pitch in the saxophone, with a duration of 89 sixteenth notes, sounded just right.

The work is suitable for advanced performers and is 13:00 minutes in duration. Performance materials available for purchase from the publisher: mjicmusicpublishing@gmail.com

Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by Sam Bateman. Children,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and part. 10 pages. Sam Bateman #3434245. Published by Sam Bateman (A0.948140).

And so we come to the second-to-last movement, which is The Swan. This was the only movement performed publicly during Saint-Saëns's lifetime, as he considered the rest of the suite too frivolous, or too silly, for his career as a serious composer. Understandably so, as it is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, depicting a swan gracefully paddling across the surface of the water, with a calm, gentle mood. Quite ironically, the piece is in G major, which has gained a completely different meaning in Internet culture. But in any case, if you'd like to perform this piece on the alto saxophone, here it is for just 10 US dollars!

If you'd like to hear some of my other arrangements, feel free to check out my YouTube channel, Sam Bateman's Music. If you would like to contact me for any inquiries or requests, feel free to email me at sambateman.music@gmail.com, and I'll respond back to you as soon as possible.

SKU: A0.1022838

Composed by Leif Jack. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 6 pages. Leif Thomas Marken Jack #6009669. Published by Leif Thomas Marken Jack (A0.1022838).

The Ocean Deep is inspired by the majesty of the ocean, its deceiving calmness and our limited knowledge of its greatest depths. It depicts one rising from the calm, sparse mesopelagic layer (the Twilight Zone) to the life-saturated epipelagic layer (the Sunlight Zone). Upon reaching the ocean's surface, a wave of awesome propotions is encountered...

This 5-minute work for piano is perfect for both intermediate and advanced players. Inspire yourself and your audience with music reminiscent of Debussy which celebrates the ocean! This work is easily accessible, and features various sections of the orchestra, and various players, who are always supported by other instruments. This work is perfect for private entertainment, or a public concert related to the ocean or nature. An excellent way to enrich a concert program with contemporary music which is not overly avant-garde or advance your own technical ability as pianist.
