String Trio Cello,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1472086 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Homco/Crinion. 20th Century,Romantic Period. 4 pages. Homco/Crinion #1049786. Published by Homco/Crinion (A0.1472086). Soon after coming to America in 1893, Antonin Dvorak wrote his Symphony No. 9 (From The New World). This piece Goin' Home is actually the theme from the 2nd Movement Largo - which the English Horn plays in the symphony. This haunting melody is so stunningly beautiful that one of Dvorak's students wrote lyrics to the music and published the song in 1922. People have always speculated as to what was the inspiration for Dvorak's original theme? A Czech folk tune? A Spiritual? A gospel hymn? A lullaby? It was something new - The New World.

French Horn Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018885 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 2 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6056099. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018885). Programme Notes: Icarus Also Flew takes its title from the first line of the poem Failing and Flying by Jack Gilbert. He is referring to the classical myth of Daedalus and Icarus, an inventive father and son who bravely escape from their imprisonment in a tower by collecting the disposed feathers of seabirds, then fashion wings out of them and fly away. While the story is often treated as a morality tale--listen to your elders, don’t get cocky like the young man, Icarus, who, in such an understandable state of elation, ascended too close to the sun thus causing the wings to melt and his tumbling to his Mediterranean death--what Jack Gilbert reminds us is how regardless of one’s failure, the sheer transcendental experience of mortal flight remains glorious and unforgettable. Icarus’s fall was not into a legacy of disdain and oblivion, but in truth, he had come to the end of his triumph. This piece was the first of a series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies--his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!--though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his celebrated fifth symphony in C minor--the Fate symphony, as it is commonly known. I’ll let the listener find their own connections.About the Composer:Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.581898 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by John Gibson. Romantic Period. 89 pages. JB Linear #3109195. Published by JB Linear (A0.581898). Tchaikovsky - March from the third movement of Symphony #6 (Pathetique) set for large clarinet choir Tchaikovsky certainly knew how to compose a stirring march. Look no further than The Nutcracker or Marche Slav and there is another sparkling march. His symphonies have them, too. Symphony 6 presents a fine march, begun by the clarinets that also shows off classic Tchaikovsky excitement. This setting for large clarinet choir by John Gibson runs about 8 minutes in length and requires some almost virtuoso playing from just about everyone. It is set for Eb Clarinet, Bb Clarinet 1-4, Alto Clarinet (with an alternate Bass part), Bass Clarinet, BBb/EEb Contra Clarinets. You may watch a You Tube video of the score at https://youtu.be/fbnJpBFzB8I .

Diego Marani #139907. Published by Diego Marani (A0.529609). The Symphony No. 3 in D minor by Gustav Mahler was written in 1896, or maybe only completed in that year, but composed between 1893 and 1896. It is choral, his longest piece and is the longest symphony in the standard repertoire. It was voted one of the ten greatest symphonies of all time in a survey of conductors carried out by the BBC Music Magazine. The last movement (Chorale) in particular had a triumphant critical success. The Swiss critic William Ritter, in his review of the premiere given in 1902, said of the last movement: Perhaps the greatest Adagio written since Beethoven. This arrangement for brass quintet includes the following parts: Bb Trumpet 1, Bb Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba. It is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.
