Instrumental Duet,Piano Cello,Instrumental Duet,Piano,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.710427 By Mirla. By Emily Mirla Harrison. Arranged by Andrew Rostas. Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 5 pages. Little Symphony Records #318974. Published by Little Symphony Records (A0.710427). A cross-genre composition for piano, field recordings, and electronic soundscapes. A composition to resolve the story and dramatic tension. War is over, POW's have been rescued, peace has returned. The music offers an optimistic message. A new start for Mirla and Arthur; a new beginning for post-war Australia; and better relationships with Japan and the wider Pacific region in the hope of forming a lasting stability. The closing movement (a shift to Major G key) begins with two woozy piano refrains, which unify. Ambient textures include birdsong recorded at the graves of my grandparents and mother. There’s a slow unfurling of the majestic string arrangements that play above a gently rolling electronic rhythm. After the swelling strings and a burning crescendo the track ends with a poignant recording of Mirla in her old age, remembering the first moment she saw Arthur on his return from war. A solo violin plays-out a final farewell, a salute to multitudes affected by the violent acts of war. The violin fades and we are left with the timeless rhythm of ocean waves and eternal birdsong.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.746215 Composed by George Butterworth. Arranged by Michael Pilley. Classical. Score and parts. 122 pages. Michael Pilley Music #4331147. Published by Michael Pilley Music (A0.746215). The very lovely setting of A.E. Housman‘s poems by George Butterworth, reorchestrated for Chamber Wind Ensemble, was commissioned by the Maidstone Wind Symphony for their recent Concert of Remembrance entitled A Time For Peace.Composed in 1911 for baritone voice and piano, this collection of short pieces utilises poems from A.E. Housman’s A Shropshire Lad published in 1896. The words have been woven into a delicate and moving composition, with the emotions contained in the text expertly drawn out through use of dynamics and phrasing. The delicate nature of the original pieces has been kept, with the voices of the wind orchestra giving a new timbral twist to the music. The reality of growing up in wartime is prevalent in the theme of the music and is captured well by Butterworth’s original. There has been a few orchestral settings of these songs, but this arrangement is to be the first for wind band.Premiered by Martin Hindmarsh and a selection of the Maidstone Wind Symphony players, the performance was delicate and true to the original essence of the piano accompaniment. You can listen to a recording of their performance (whilst admittedly a poor quality) on the score video below. Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792222 Composed by Heinrich Schutz. Arranged by Fetter, David. Baroque,Classical,Renaissance. Score and parts. 40 pages. Gordon Cherry #4728855. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792222). Psalm 1 by Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672), is taken from his collection of choral settings of several of the biblical Psalms of David, in which Schütz continued the polychoral tradition he had absorbed in Venice as a student of Giovanni Gabrieli.   Schütz indicated in his preface to the Psalms, published in 1619, that due to limits on performance during the Thirty Years War, alternate instruments or voices could be employed as available.  As Psalm 1 was composed for two choirs of voices, it might be an attractive option to double the parts in this version for brass.  Also, the choirs might be placed some distance apart.  The original version of Psalm I is for two four-part choirs, one of mixed voices and one of tenors and basses.  (The original also calls for continuo accompaniment, but, as in similar works of Gabrieli, the choral parts sound complete in themselves.) Composer/arranger David Fetter (b. 1938) is a Trombone faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.  Also a conductor, his works are performed in concert, at festivals, and in educational settings in the U.S. and Europe and they have been recorded by leading soloists. Mr. Fetter is a former member of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Radio/Telefis Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the U.S. Army Band, and other ensembles, where he performed for conductors who included George Szell, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, James Levine, Sergiu Comissiona, and David Zinman.  At the Eastman School of Music he was a trombone student of Emory Remington and a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble under Frederick Fennell.  He holds a Master’s in Musicology from The American University.  See www.peabody.jhu.edu/David Fetter.

Mixed choir (SSATB) a cappella - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q19812 Composed by Heinrich Poos. This edition: choral score. Schott Choral Music. Downloadable, Choral score. Schott Music - Digital #Q19812. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q19812). German.Heinrich Poos is not the first composer inspired by Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock's poem 'Die Auferstehung', as even Gustav Mahler had already used these verses in the fifth movement of his Second Symphony 'Auferstehung'. Mahler was inspired to use a choral movement at the end of his symphony at the funeral of the conductor Hans von Bülow where a choir sang a chorale based on said text by Klopstock. Heinrich Poos wrote his deeply moving choral piece in remembrance of the organist Hubert Schoonbrodt.
