Banjo - Beginning - Digital Download SKU: M0.93930EB Bluegrass. E-book. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #93930EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.93930EB). ISBN 9781513455426. 8.75 x 11.75 inches.Banjo Workshop was written with four important areas of the 5-string banjo technical and artistic development in mind: picking technique, personal style, creativity, and awareness of the instrument's key and tuning potential. Picking technique-Studies in Section 1 will equip you to dissolve the inhibiting notion that some songs are unplayable on the 5-string banjo. Any song is playable if the necessary technique has been learned and developed to accommodate it. Personal style-In Section 2 you will first explore several popular 3-finger sub-styles, seeing how each evolved and how they are all often intermixed within a given performer's own personal style. Through subsequent examples you will be made aware of style potential and the artistic necessity of developing your own personal style. Creativity-Through style development and improvisational skills taught in Section 3 you will begin to think and perform less like a mechanical follower and more like an artistic ground breaker. You will learn to modify arrangements; further, you will learn to create your own arrangements. Exploration of Non-G Keys and Tunings-In Section 4 you will find that playing in keys and tunings other than G are no less fun and no more difficult than playing the familiar G (bluegrass) tuning. Six non-G tunings will be explored, involving ten solos, including major, minor and modal tunings. The overall effort is to make you aware that you don't have to be a technical whiz nor a speed king in order to be a musical artist. If you can add something new and different, something enjoyable to listen to, you are an artist even if you are not yet an advanced-level player.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808709 By Eldridge/Gillespie. By Leo Mosley, Mary Lou Williams, William Luther Johnson, and William Willie Johnson. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Contemporary. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #6433397. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808709).     Mary Lou Williams learned to play piano on her own at age 3. By age 6 she was playing piano to help support her large family. At age 15, she turned professional, and by the time she was 20, she had made a name for herself nationally not only as a jazz musician but also as an arranger and composer. In 1943, she wrote a piece titled Satchel Mouth Baby, which she recorded the next year with her group, Mary Lou and her Chosen Five. Three years later, Bill Johnson and His Musical Notes recorded Williams’ song after he and Leo Snub Mosley had worked on the lyrics and changed the title to Pretty Eyed Baby. Others would go on to record Pretty Eyed Baby, among them: Frankie Laine and Jo Stafford, Jane Turzy, Johnnie Ray, Peggy Lee and Roy Eldridge.    This arrangement skips along at about 120 bpm. It contains common swing rhythmic figures, and all notes are well within the normal playing range of most brass musicians. Horn in F and Trombone carry the melodic load, but all instruments get a turn at playing lead. This is a fun piece, so don’t be surprised if your audience starts clapping along while you’re playing.    Completed in 2021, performance time for Pretty Eyed Baby runs about 3 minutes,9 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the SheetMusicPlus search box.

Trumpet Duet Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.589813 By John Denver. By David Leslie Froggatt, Jane Barnes, and Johnny Marks. Arranged by David McKeown. Children,Christmas,Country,Holiday,Rock. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6096181. Published by David McKeown (A0.589813). This version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is arranged by David McKeown as a duet for two Trumpets. The song, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, was written in 1949 by Johhny Marks. The Rudolph story was written by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L May, a decade earlier. The success of the song was guaranteed when it was recorded by Gene Autry, a huge star at the time. Initially Gene Autry didn’t like the song and was only persuaded to record it by his wife. She obviously knew best as Rudolph went on to become the second best-selling Christmas record of all time after White Christmas, with versions by everyone from the Jackson Five to Alvin and the Chipmunks. This duet version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is based on the Gene Autry version, with a short introduction, and three choruses of the melody, with a key change and varied accompaniment throughout. Rhythms are simple in a swing style and the range is conservative, so this arrangement is ideal for players at an intermediate level.  Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet. There are many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown for you to browse, (including many Christmas carols and songs), at https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203
