Instrumental Solo,Ney Flute,Oboe/English Horn - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1122089

Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. Arranged by Drake Mabry, Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 19 pages. Studio at the Post #723162. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1122089).

Duration: 10 minutes, 16 pp. Description: In speaking of his recitation of his Four Quartets on phonograph, T. S. Eliot says: A recording of a poem by its author is no more definitive an 'interpretation' than a recording of a symphony conducted by the composer. The poem, if it is of any depth and complexity, will have meanings in it concealed from the author; and should be capable of being read in many ways, and with a variety of emotional emphasis.... Another reader, reciting the poem, need not feel bound to reproduce these rhythms: but, if he has studied the author's version, he can assure himself that he is departing from it deliberately, and not from ignorance. The composer could not have stated his intentions towards this piece better than to quote T. S. Eliot. No note or inflection is fixed in stone that it cannot be negotiated, changed to better suit the needs of the performer. This is especially true of the first movement which is composed around sections of the first of Eliot's Four Quartets (Burnt Norton), but applies generally to the whole piece. Much of the notation in this piece is meant to be suggestive. The performer may take a highly faithful approach to realizing the score, or consider the movements as models for directed improvisation. Movement 2, for example, asks the performer to continue to improvise in like manner, yet maps out a clear design for the music. Birthday Suit is dedicated to Robert S. Howe, a friend and obstetrician who welcomes into this world many people in their birthday suits. That is the most obvious reason for the title of this piece. A reason more germane to the music itself is the piece's reliance on the performer's own natural body rhythms (such as speech rhythms, involuntary eye movements, and rate of breathing) to help organize the flow of the music. In this way both metabolism and the written note cooperate to make music. There are three movements, Rhythm of Speech - Rhythm of Sight - Rhythm of Breath. Total 10 minutes. (Audio Sample of movement I is for oboe; YouTube Link of movement III is an arrangement for the Turkish ney.).

By Budapest Scoring wind quartet. By David Warin Solomons. Classical,Contemporary. Full Performance. Duration 117. David Warin Solomons #723318. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1122168).

Many years before Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats I created my own setting of TS Eliot's Song of the Jellicles (from Old Possum's book of practical cats). Originally it was intended for choir, but the estate of T S Eliot would not let me use the poem itself as a choral piece. However, they did allow me to use the word Jellicle in my instrumental titles. Each version follows the rhythms of the T S Eliot poem. Performers: The Budapest wind quartet, comprising Flute: Ildikó Szabady Oboe: Márton Belek Clarinet: Hunor Egyed Bassoon: Kristóf Szilágyi.

Composed by William Grosvenor Neil. Contemporary. Score and parts. 41 pages. TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC #6701343. Published by TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC (A0.982536).

Other Echoes Inhabit the Garden (2009) for clarinet, bass clarinet, pipa, and erhu (score and parts) I composed this piece imagining myself in a garden of images, sonorities, and aromas that all merge in an idyllic moment in time.  I have taken a line from one of T.S.Eliot’s poems in the Four Quartets, for my title, Other Echoes Inhabit the Garden. The poem, Burnt Norton, concludes with the poignant truth that humankind cannot bear very much reality. I often wonder whether my work as a composer really has any significance or meaning beyond helping my listeners temporarily escape their personal realities. In recalling Eliot’s line, What might have been and what has been/ point to one end, which is always present I am reminded that a melody, a single line of lyric pitch flow evokes memory in the mind of the listener and that rhythm and accent often draws our attention to the present moving towards the future. So, with these inherent powers

of music in mind, it was my goal to create a piece of vibrant and engaging music that relentlessly draws the listener into the present moment. Eliot also alludes to a timeless merging of present and past in this poem. His line, then a cloud passed and the pool was empty brought back memories of being a child watching clouds almost unnoticeably move across the sky. I was similarly inspired to conclude Other Echoes Inhabit the Garden with music that evokes an ecstatic stillness tempered with a longing for the past. WGN

Between Times Time past and time future... for clarinet, viola and piano (2017) op.73
Work written within the framework of composer's postgraduate studies on Composition for Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles in Ionian university and dedicated to the professor Josef Papadatos. Based on an excerpt from the Four Quartets by T.S.Eliot is polystilistic in idiom and in concertante style.
Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future
And time future contained in time past.
If all time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
What might have been is an abstraction Remaining a perpetual possibility
Only in a world of speculation.
What might have been and what has been
Point to one end, which is always present.
(T.S.Eliot, Four Quartets)
Τα μέÏη:
I.Adagio misterioso (Outer Space, Gravity Zero)
II.Allegro (Into a time vortex)
III.L'istesso tempo (Escape) to Antonio Vivaldi & Dmitri Shostakovitch
IV.Andante rubato (Tranquillity Nebula) to Olivier Messiaen
V.Allegro (Gravitational Disorder) to Keith Emerson
VI.Adagio misterioso (Eternal Present)
Premier by Ionian Islands Festival Ensemble (Alexandros Michailidis, Helias Sdoukos, Stefanos Nassos) at Ionian Academy Theater in 2017.
The work was chosen by International Society for the Contemporary Music to represent Greece in 2018 ISCM World New Music Days in BeijingModern Music Festival, China. Performance by Trio Clavino (Doris Hall - Gulati, Simon Maurer, Xun Pan).

Originally it was intended for choir, and then I went on to make instrumental duos and quartets from the bouncy kittenish theme. Each version follows the rhythms of the T S Eliot poem.

Jellicle Cats come out to-night
Jellicle Cats come one come all:
The Jellicle Moon is shining bright—
Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball.

Jellicle Cats are black and white,
Jellicle Cats are rather small;
Jellicle Cats are merry and bright,
And pleasant to hear when they caterwaul.
Jellicle Cats have cheerful faces,
Jellicle Cats have bright black eyes;
They like to practise their airs and graces
And wait for the Jellicle Moon to rise.
