Soprano Saxophone Duet Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.588976

Composed by Traditional Irish. Arranged by David McKeown. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Wedding,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6013325. Published by David McKeown (A0.588976).

The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for two Soprano Saxophones.

The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.

Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. By Takida. By Christian Bror Rehn, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Robert Karl Pettersson, and Thomas Jan Vallin. Arranged by David McKeown. Film/TV,Pop. Individual part. 3 pages. David McKeown #6496745. Published by David McKeown (A0.593603).

How Far I’ll Go is one of the best loved songs from the 2016 Disney film Moana. This version is arranged as a solo for Oboe with chord symbols for piano or guitar accompaniment.

Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, two versions were recorded for the film, one by the lead actress AuliÊ»i Cravalho and the other by Alessia Cara. How Far I’ll Go won a Grammy in 2018 and has been consistently the most streamed song in the Disney canon since its release.

Musicians at an intermediate standard will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performances. Total performance time is around three minutes. This is the full length version as sung in the film, with the verse, bridge and chorus performed twice and a final chorus a semitone higher. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full performance of How Far I'll Go played on Clarinet.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to approach expressive playing and syncopated rhythms.

SKU: A0.773999

Composed by Anthony Giamanco. Concert,Jazz,Standards. Score and parts. 10 pages. Whole Tone Press #6356545. Published by Whole Tone Press (A0.773999).

A fun, fresh, jazzy duet for alto sax and tenor sax. It starts off 'straight' (A), alternating between primarily 3/4 and 4/4, then moves into a cool 'swing' (B), followed by a repeat of 'A' and 'B' with some interesting variations, then one more repeat of the 'A' section before culminating in a captivating coda. Rhythmically, a little tricky, but the metre changes feel quite natural. Great piece foir solo/ensemble, recital, concert. Intermediate.

Program note:
In the year 2010, my wife Kristin Beckwith and I went to Paris twice, the first time in May and the second time in December right after Christmas. The weather was magnificent in May. Our friends Seph and Roger met us there. Being long-time veterans of Paris, they took us all over the city: Le Marais, the Left Bank, Montmartre, Sacré Coeur, Père LaChaise cemetery, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Tuileries, Notre Dame cathedral, Eiffel Tower, the flea market at Porte de Clignancourt, the canal at Saint Martin, etc. Since the weather was so great we basically stayed outside the entire two weeks. My wife Kris said that we had to return next again to Paris to go inside the museums. So we did. The weather in Paris after Christmas was very damp and chilly. So we did indoor activities: Le Louvre, Musée D’Orsay, Palais Garnier, etc. We even attended a beautiful performance of Swan Lake by the Paris Opera Ballet at L’Opéra Bastille.

I should also mention that on both occasions I met up with a former student of mine from Berklee, Joe Makholm. He makes a living in Paris playing jazz piano. Joe got us a gig at the Swan Bar in Montparnasse. On the first occasion we did it as a trio with a French bass player. I played flute. On the second occasion, we did it as a duo. Playing jazz in Paris? You can’t beat that!!!

Early this year, Steven Lipsitt and I had a chat about my writing a new work for the Boston Classical Orchestra. My last work for the BCO was a piano concerto with Robert Levin as soloist. I told Steven that this time I wanted to write a symphony. He said, Sure. Go ahead. I told him it would be about Paris. He said he would put Mozart’s Paris Symphony on the same program. I said, Fabulous!

Symphony No. 8 … City of Light (2011) is in five movements.

1. La Seine Presto, Moderato
2. Basilique du Sacré-Coeur Largo
3. Palais Garnier Allegro, Trio
4. Avenue des Champs-Élysées Allegro
5. Musée du Louvre Largo, Moderato

This work is dedicated to my wife and muse, Kristin Beckwith.
