GRACE DARLING was known as the ‘Heroine of the Farne Islands’ off the Northumberland coast where she lived with her family in the Longstone Lighthouse. She became a household name when in 1838 along with ther father William Darling rowed out in a North Sea gale to rescue 9 passengers from the capsized paddle steamer Forfarshire. Honoured by royalty, her fame was short-lived as she died of Tuberculosis in 1842 aged only 27. I wrote this specifically for the senior students of the Performing Arts. It has many leading parts for both sexes and has a hint of the 60-70 style of writing found in those musicals of the times but modern in context. The story line includes opportunities for many individual performances covering song and dance numbers, group singing, contemporary dance, dramatic interludes and strong comedy parts. This is an original story taking a humorous look at a possible visitation from our space neighbours. The story begins with the arrival of   GS2, an ‘Interstellar Space Surveyor’ on its mission to map this part of the Universe. Whilst reporting its position to the home base ‘Niva’, the surveyor informs them that one of the planets (Earth) appears to have intelligent life forms. On receiving this information Niva decides to dispatch a party of college students to study this unique planet, much to the annoyance of GS2 who take umbridge at being appointed, what he calls a Galactic Nanny! Events take a dramatic turn when the surveyor is called away on an ‘emergency rescue mission’ so has to beam the students down to planet Earth, where during transmutation, they are warned not to integrate with the population. This is an educational piece for Directors or Drama Teachers in education or the Performing Arts.   Set in Heaven, Broken Doll tells the story of a group of recently deceased young women looking down on a teenage girl who is contemplating suicide. They are not told why and the role of the group is to persuade the girl's Spirit, to return to its host. There are a wide range of characters within the piece and although they all have one thing in common, (they are all female), their outlooks and life experiences are naturally all very different and each has an opinion on the cause of the young girl's demeanour and to come up with with a proposition on how to save the girl’s life.    This is presented through the music and dialogue. Vocally the cast will have different capabilities and timbres.This diversity of styles in characters and the memorable musical content should appeal to teenagers as well as family members.   The stage set is very basic, making the overall cost much lower, allowing it to be performed anywhere with a suitable space. It also has the potential to be filmed and the subsequent DVD could then be made available to anyone working with young people. All the necessary advice, information and useful contacts, should be provided in the programme notes. The main characters are some of the common modules found in every business computer and the story follows them as they go about their individual programmes.Act 1.Begins in the ‘Mail Room’ where all of the incoming mail is scanned by grandpa Macspammer before passing the safe material to Ariel the filing clerk who’s very fond of reading the ‘love’ messages passed between two of te office workers. We’re then introduced to (Mike Rowchip) ‘Chipper’ the ‘Waste Disposal module on his daily round and always tends to spend a little more time than is necessary in the mailroom. The story developes with the computer going 'offline' for temporary repairs, allowing Ariel to take advantage of this free time by coersing Chipper to take her on a tour of the circuit board with dire consequences when a computer virus 'Medussa' breaks into the C.P.U. On atree stump Barny the barn owl wakes from his slumbers, winks, blinks and toowit-toowoos.Woody the little fir tree is feeling very sorry for himself, bemoaning the fact that all ofhis leafy friends have been taken by the townspeople for their Christmas festivities andeven the late arrival of Jack Frost, a most exuberant character, finds it difficult to lift ourlittle friend’s spirit with his cheerful banter.         And so our fir tree resigns himself to make the best of Christmas Eve as allthe forest creatures hurry off home to prepare for the coming celebrations. However,things take a sudden turn when he overhears the fox and weasel devising a cunning planto make a pile of money, by going into the ‘Wholesale Toy Business’.      Of course when others hear about the plan, Woody becomes nominated tosave Christmas and sets out on his adventure, with a little help from the Christmas Fairy,Snowy White the snowman and Gordon the Garden Gnome, along with other forestfriends. Needless to say from this moment on, things begin to get ‘rather hot!’

PLANET ORIGAMI : Is my latest play in the TYNE ONSTAGE series of family orientated musicals and takes the audience ‘Out of this World’ to a strange little planet in a far distant galaxy on a small barren rocky planet called BEEZEDON. This is a place entirely inhabited by a race of androids, who after some catastrophic event, were the only machines immune from the ensuing radiation which destroyed every living life form and fauna. Before leaving for a safer haven, the emigrating intelligencia built a new colony of these ‘droids and programmed them to make their planet beautiful again by carpeting it with new flowers, when it was deemed ‘safe.’ The droids had carried out this programme diligently for the next thousand years. However no one had thought through the consequence of instigating such a rigid programme and when their preliminary attempts ended in failure and the fauna died,these clever machines found a perfect solution by refering to their data banks and manufacturing replicas from synthesised plastic. Once the programme was completed and with no more space left, the ‘droids instantly ‘restored' themselves and began creating their world all over again. This is where my story begins:-     â€˜Melody Mayflower’, Is a newly appointed Earth’s Ambassador and a representative of the Commission for Harmony and Concilliation, an organisation which has been extending its borders throughout the Milky Way Galaxy. Our own star system has become a recent member and Melody is one of their many Goodwill Ambassadors. Although she doesn’t know it, she has been selected for the onerous task of convincing the Droid Nation that their programme is now obselete, as Beezedon is now free of contamination, therefore ready for re-planting with organic material.

They’re extremely popular in the U.K. and draw in big family audiences, indeed the finance generated, helps most theatres over the more leaner summer months. So I thought Why not write a ‘Pantomime for Summer’ and this is it!PANTOMANIA takes you on a journey into the mystical world of fairy tale and fantasy, where words on a page become real-life characters when our heroine, Victoria falls into a wishing well and on climbing out, finds herself in the ‘Children’s  Section’ on a library bookshelf. We follow her as she moves from page to page trying to find a way back home, assisted by the ‘Scarecrow’ plus an odd assortment of picture book characters. A great fun-musical for all of the family with plenty laughs and a few screams along with foot-tapping songs.
