Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1285185 Composed by Christian F. J. Buettner, John Tuananh Dang, and Rajan S. Arranged by Stephen Cai. 21st Century,Video Game. Score and Parts. 66 pages. Stephen Cai #876297. Published by Stephen Cai (A0.1285185). Monody - TheFatRat (Christian F. J. Buettner) arr. Stephen Cai for Concert BandProgram Notes:MUSIC As a sequel to Pigstep by Lena Raine and Exodus by Ernest Gold, I have decided to take on the challenge of arranging the ever-famous glitch hop song, Monody by Christian Buettner (known more prominently by his online alias, TheFatRat).Similarly to Pigstep, my first arrangement, I ran into the challenge of instrumentation, as Monody’s original soundtrack almost entirely consisted of electronic instruments. However, I used the same technique I did with Pigstep to overcome this problem: assign basslines to low brass, treble melodies to mid-range instruments, and high parts to upper woodwinds. Unlike Pigstep, Monody pushed me to be more creative with the percussion section, as I had to puzzle out recreating all of the numerous sound effects throughout the piece with traditional percussion instruments. I even decided to notate a conch shell line for the war horn present at the beginning and the coda! At the end, however, it all came together nicely, and I came to realize that both this song and the process of arranging it represent a journey, albeit in different contexts. The word ā€œMonodyā€ refers to, in a literal sense, a song sung to mourn one’s death, which accordingly fits with my view of the piece as a journey where the narrator loses their companion. Writing the introduction measures (M.22) carried me through the genuine feelings of embarking on a mythical undertaking as the original soundtrack intends to portray. The lively middle section (M.70) was enjoyable to write as well, because the music itself is upbeat and full of energy. Finally, arranging the solo section was probably my most memorable experience. The slow and subtly melancholic character of the melody (the oboe solo) very closely alludes to the narrator’s mourning, and the enchanting lyrics originally written for this section further confirms their loss: Ā  Ā  Ā I still hear you in the breeze, Ā  Ā  Ā See your shadows in the trees; Ā  Ā  Ā Holding on, memories never change. The chords and harmonies that the original soundtrack provided were relatively simple to transcribe, and I found joy complementing them with luscious percussion effects. This is my interpretation of Monody, and I believe that it would be best performed as a journey, one which we can relate to as it encompasses the theme of loss; a monody. ARTWORK I also took up the challenge of creating original cover artwork for Monody, and I have to say, my level of appreciation for artists of any kind has skyrocketed ever since that endeavor. It took nearly two months of watching YouTube tutorials, onerous idea crunching, and using my sister’s drawing tablet, but I had nevertheless completed it with advice from some of my more experience peers (including my sister). Formal Credits: Cai, Stephen and Rachel Cai. ā€œMonodyā€ Arrangement for Concert Band cover. 2023 Lastly, I want to say thanks to my friend Matteo Sohn for being such a huge musical inspiration, and thank you for acknowledging my arrangement!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1262362 Composed by Sally Whitwell. 21st Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 17 pages. Sally Whitwell #855402. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.1262362). On the morning of 2 March 2020, I finished writing the first draft of this song. It was the same morning that the New South Wales Rural Fire Service announced that for the first time since July 2019, the state was free of active bush and grass fires. At the time it felt quite euphoric. We’d been through a lot. Little did we know what was coming just a few days from then, when the Covid19 global pandemic reached our shores. It’s a virus that would kill millions across the world, and disable millions more, long term. It forced us, globally, into a kind of reckoning the like of which we had never experienced before. Non pharmaceutical controls like lockdowns, mask mandates, social distancing and ventilation standards were employed to keep us safe from this airborne virus, whilst scientists worked round clock to develop vaccines and treatments.Technically, the declaration of a pandemic is still active, but governments and people have somehow decided for themselves that it is all over. No one takes any precautions any more. Governments have stopped reporting statistics. People who know they are infected are going about their business with no thought for others. Meanwhile, many of the immune-compromised, the disabled, the vulnerable, are unable to safely leave their homes and engage in activities out in the world. I know this, because I am a carer for a vulnerable person. What this whole exercise has taught me is that people in the world are actually much less kind than I thought they were. Humans do not really care for each other. People attack me for wearing a mask, tell me that I’m virtue signalling and that I look ridiculous (as if I care how I look). I’ve asked questions about workplace Covid safety and been informed that it’s ā€œa bit richā€ that I’m asking at all, when everything is now safe. A friend’s diagnosed Long Covid symptoms were cruelly minimised or completely dismissed ā€œOh, it’s not Covid. How old are you? In your forties? It’s your hormones, it’s the menopause.ā€ The fatal combination of sheer selfishness, rampant misinformation and DISinformation continues, whilst people waltz around spreading a deadly virus with no thought for the grief that will undoubtedly ensue. It boils down to this: if we want to continue as a species and to have a planet on which to reside, we have to stop with the Self Care and start with the Community Care. A choir is the perfect instrument for expressing these notions, through the unique power of the massed first person plural. My wish for this piece is that it spurs performer and listener alike into some kind of action. Please consider the effect your actions have on others, and on the planet, and make any changes necessary, however inconvenient or difficult they are. Otherwise, there’s really no point.Sally Whitwell 11 July 2023.

Instrumental Duet Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.917390 By John Legend. By John Stephens and Toby Gad. Arranged by Simeon Goode. R & B,Soul. Score and parts. 15 pages. Simeon Goode #4782713. Published by Simeon Goode (A0.917390). This arrangement is designed to make the most of a limited instrumentation and be as recognizably like the original as possible, while still capitalizing on the instruments used. The cello leads the way in this arrangement, and has most of the melodic material (although, the violin does take over at the climax of the piece), while the violin often does arpeggiated flourishes mimicking the pianistic playing of the original music.Great for weddings and small chamber situations where this light, flowing, and emotional piece of music is sure to please!

Choral Choir (SA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.873034 Composed by Sally Whitwell. Pop. Octavo. 11 pages. Sally Whitwell #3869017. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.873034). Composer’s Note - Happy PlaceI’m a lesbian who came-of-age/came-out in the mid 1990s, which means I caught the tail end of those lesbian stereotypes you used to hear about. It made me feel like I’d never inherited The Lesbian Gene. I was never one of the herbal tea sipping, yoga loving, hemp textiles wearing, hippie happy clappy campers of that time. I had girlfriends who were and I tried to humour them sometimes but it was always a strain.I had this one girlfriend who made me go camping once, a gathering with her hippie pagan friends. It was all inoffensive enough, I was having a very nice time sitting in the shade reading my book. Rather stupidly, I made the mistake of letting someone rope me into a thing called Drumming The Boundary. They thought I’d be good at it, being a professional musician. I thought it would probably please my girlfriend if I got involved, so I agreed to go along. To my surprise, the drums they’d set up were great instruments, some really top quality djembes that you’d be paying some good money for, so I made the rash assumption that the leader of this activity actually knew what she was doing. We were instructed to start drumming a heartbeat together, whereupon I discovered that these are people who couldn’t even play a plain old crotchet beat in ensemble. But they seemed to think they were playing in time, swooning and swaying and closing their eyes to ā€˜feel’ the music. It was starting to make me giggle. These were presumably the same lesbians I’d seen out in Sydney nightclubs who couldn’t dance in time with an electronic beat that repeatedly hits you over the head with its obviousness?! Once I’d had that thought, I couldn’t help my giggle becoming a full-blown guffaw. The dreadlocked hempy lady in charge glared at me, telling me I needed to relax into really feeling the heartbeat. Could she not see that it was because my whole body was shaking with hysterical laughter at their arhythmic playing? Honestly...I guess I just really don’t like hippies. There, I said it out loud. I tried, I tried really hard, but I just prefer my city life. It’s my Happy Place.-- Sally Whitwell

Large Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.569833 Composed by Austin Ralphson. Instructional. Score and parts. 52 pages. Austin Ralphson #4628387. Published by Austin Ralphson (A0.569833). Melody: Ornaments - Perform, Compose, Understand Series. This pack comprises a piece called Take It In Turns, worksheets and questions which relate to the piece. It is all about understanding ornamentation.Welcome to the PCU Series for classroom-based groups. This series focuses on learning by doing; there are many accomplished performers within our school classrooms throughout the world, but my years of experience has taught me that many of these students learn to play by rote – literally be learning one note followed by another – without gaining full understanding of how the pieces work musically and theoretically. Indeed, some of them can perform to a high standard using this method, but then really struggle with composition and general musical understanding later in their educational careers.I equate this to learning to speak sentences in a foreign language without fully understanding what those sentences actually mean.So who is this book for?It is for music teachers to use with their students who are learning to create exam-level compositions within a school environment. It is ideal for courses such as the American High School Diploma, GCSE, IGCSE, SCS, HKCEE, IB(MYP), SPM, GCEO, CCEF, HKCEE, VSSD, GES or ICSE.It is designed to cater for almost any instrument due to the parts being provided in many different keys and clefs (including tab and bass tab). Drum parts are intentionally not provided as drummers still need to have a good understanding of non-percussive elements such as melody and harmony; I would suggest that they play a keyboard part for the purposes of learning about composition. You can also download backing tracks of all pieces in this series by searching:Classroom Performance educational pack: MELODY backing tracksThese contain parts 2-5, allowing part 1 to be played live over the top.How to use this resourceThis pack comprises three stages, the third of which should be gained from success with the first two:1. PerformingAn original performance piece is provided for mixed classroom ensemble. This piece features a musical device of some kind as its focus. There will obviously be other musical components included within the piece as well, but the main element will be very apparent.2. ComposingWorksheets are provided to enable students to develop their own compositions based on the same focus as the performance piece. Elements of the performance piece are highlighted and short, developmental activities will lead to the students developing their own musical ideas.3. Understanding          Summary worksheets are provided to enable students to demonstrate their understanding of the topic. There are two musical elements which appear in all pieces within this PCU series. They are dynamics and articulation. All performance pieces contain them and opportunity is provided to include them within the composing exercises as well.Printing and CopyingThe purchaser may print or copy all pages of this resource as required, but must not distribute to others. It is advised to produce resources for students as follows:* Print which ever parts are needed to facilitate a performance* Produce a booklet containing the title page, score and worksheets. The performance piece could also be used for the performing component of your examined course as well if appropriate.** Also look out for the other packs in the PCU Series which cover melody, rhythm, structure, texture and harmony. Multi-pack deals are also available. **

Published by Moni Bergo (A0.1012704). Music and song composed by me about Borderline♫ * Ҭ` * • .ĀøĀø. ♫ Cassandra's vision ♫ * Ҭ` * • .ĀøĀø. ♫  I don't want to open that door, I shouldn't ... but it's the wind that brings me ... And I sing in a low voice, Until the pain passes and turn, turn-round, how bad the world is Between thoughts and tears, words and music There is Cassandra's vision And I don't know if he can do it, to write about you, you left quickly, And you're perfect in my mind   Cassandra is locked up in that room, He hugs himself, tells an existence: Look there, my father and his glass, look at me, the victim of drinking purple bruises, always alone at school, violence continues in indifference, my mother knew but hid everything, the mind that does not hold, and the borderline destroys the spark that was in me, all those dreams of mine and that love that I will never have, I would like to run away but I am chained here, uncontrolled rituals, repeated gestures and a monster closed inside me In Cassandra's vision, she no longer has bars in this room no longer has a body, sex, it is ageless It's a vision but she doesn't know it In harmony with creation, forget the present and the past And the pain comes up and will disappear, It's a vision but she doesn't know it Cassandra does not know, who is about to lose our reality Worn threads Of a fragile puppet He hangs in the balance, embraces a nightmare In his labyrinths, he never finds a way out And pass the margin, cross that limit You feel a flower that Needs no longer has And the wind will follow   In front of the mirror, The long hair, Reflect flashes of a thousand crystals You comb them slowly ,, With infinite care, You have been waiting for your love for a lifetime And a carillon that resounds far away, The brush suddenly falls from your hand Because the black man is here, he is already back, He breaks your dream, the charm is broken   Cassandra runs among the stars and tattooes them on her skin Bruises and scars no longer has, It's a vision but she doesn't know it In dimensions to explore, How birds can fly Breathe sun, love and freedom And no one will harm you here ... Cassandra stop, Cassandra help me not to regret you Now you can't chain me to you, to your memory that will burn forever Cassandra doesn't know that wings don't, she doesn't Tragic angel who takes flight and then A puppet with broken threads now And time stands still here, like your beat   But the vision is mine or Cassandra's, I don't remember anymore, This time changes my perception of the past Faces and names that Time has faded by now And I dance to the ticking of what has been lost souls who are left behind always inside me with their story an eternal tattoo in my memory   I shouldn't open that door, I don't want to, but it's the wind that brings me…. and I sing in a low voice until the pain passes and round, round-round how bad the world is ... ..
