They would take the parts of the Narrator, the Owl, and the Pussycat. That would leave me with two words, the most important line in the poem, the Piggy-wig's line I will. Without this one line, the goal of the poem cannot be achieved - the marriage between the Owl and the Pussycat.Since this is a nonsense poem, the tempo and dynamic variations can be exaggerated to bring out the humor in the text. This setting is most ideal for an ensemble of soloists, but it could also be performed by an SAB choir with soloists for the parts of the Owl, the Pussycat, and the Piggy-wig. Happy singing!

A short, fast paced, lively and modern (but not to modern!) gigue for solo piano (duration 2:00).This gigue for solo piano is based on a single hexachord, given at a number of transpositions and often stacked vertically.Inspired by the book Hexachords – a resource for composers by Sonny Kompanek, Mr. Munson's piano piece, #4 in a series, is based on the hexachord 22122.As stated in the Mr. Kompanek's book Each digit represents the number of half steps from the lowest to highest note of the hexachord, reading from left to right. So, at transposition 0, 22122 would represent c,d,e,f,g,a. There are 80 primary hexachords in the 12 tone scale.Yet displacement of notes, stacking of transpositions and other techniques provide a wealth of material. Mr. Munson elaborates: I take many liberties as the piece progresses and develops, where the primary principal that takes over at a point is motivic development – carved out from the principal hexachord. Tonal structures as well are often derived from selecting certain notes from stacked hexachords.

This arrangement for String Quartet features melody lines in all four instruments. The Youtube video and mp3 recording take all the repeats, making it longer (6:04) than most of Joplin’s other pieces. My quartet usually takes no repeats (all 2nd endings) which makes the length about two minutes shorter.

Blue Rondo A La Turk was on that album and uses a rhythm Brubeck heard on the streets of Turkey: 9/8 time, but divided into 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3. I have given this an advanced rating due to the challenge of playing these rhythms tightly at a fast tempo. The score is provided for reference only since the page turns are impossible. The parts are arranged for 3 side by side pages.  Also, since this version takes after one done vocally by Al Jarreau there is a section where the 1st and 2nd clarinets are invited to sing!
