Your Teeming Shore - for SATB choir and piano. The New Colossus is a sonnet written by American poet Emma Lazarus in 1883 to raise money for the construction of a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty. In 1903, the poem was cast onto a bronze plaque and mounted inside the pedestal's lower level. 'The New Colossus' reinvented the statue's purpose, turning Liberty into a welcoming mother, a symbol of hope to the outcasts and downtrodden of the world. John T. Cunningham (an American journalist and historian) wrote: The Statue of Liberty was not conceived and sculpted as a symbol of immigration, but it quickly became so as immigrant ships passed under the torch and the shining face, heading toward Ellis Island. However, it was Lazarus's poem that permanently stamped on Miss Liberty, the role of unofficial greeter of incoming immigrantsâ€. In the current political climate, Lazarus's words remain relevant and poignant.

Molly Malone (also known as Cockles and Mussels or In Dublin's Fair City) is a popular song set in Dublin, Ireland, which has become its unofficial anthem.

The Molly Malone statue in Grafton Street was unveiled by then Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alderman Ben Briscoe, during the 1988 Dublin Millennium celebrations, when 13 June was declared to be Molly Malone Day. The statue was presented to the city by Jury's Hotel Group to mark the Millennium.

On 18 July 2014, the statue was relocated to Suffolk Street, in front of the Tourist Information Office, to make way for Luas track-laying work to be completed at the old location.

The song tells the fictional tale of a fishwife who plied her trade on the streets of Dublin and died young, of a fever. In the late 20th century a legend grew up that there was a historical Molly, who lived in the 17th century. She is typically represented as a hawker by day and part-time sex-worker by night. In contrast she has also been portrayed as one of the few chaste female street-hawkers of her day.

There is no evidence that the song is based on a real woman, of the 17th century or any other time. The name Molly originated as a familiar version of the names Mary and Margaret. While many such Molly Malones were born in Dublin over the centuries, no evidence connects any of them to the events in the song. Nevertheless, the Dublin Millennium Commission in 1988 endorsed claims made for a Mary Malone who died on 13 June 1699, and proclaimed 13 June to be Molly Malone Day.

A variant, Cockles and Mussels, with some different lyrics, appeared in Students' Songs: Comprising the Newest and Most Popular College Songs As Now Sung at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, ... Union, etc in 1884.

Composed by Franz von Suppe. Arranged by Flávio Régis Cunha. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 16 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #4593577. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597222).

Die schöne Galathée (The Beautiful Galatea) is an operetta in two acts by Franz von Suppé to a German libretto by the composer and 'Poly Henrion' (the pseudonym of Leonhard Kohl von Kohlenegg). This arrangement of Einmal möcht' Ich so verliebt sein (one aria of the operetta) for orchestra and soprano voice is a very good Encore or an orchestral piece for your repertoire.

Flavio Regis Cunha is a pianist, conductor and composer from São Paulo - Brasil. He is currently finishing his doctorate at Mackenzie Presbyterian University where he works as conductor of the Mackenzie University Orchestra and resident composer. For more arrangements like this, works by commission or for any questions you can contact Flavio Regis Cunha at his facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/flavioregiscunha

In the early 1860s, French operettas by Jacques Offenbach were first presented in Vienna. Franz von Suppé was obliged to compete with them by taking the time-honored traditions of Vienna and combining it with the new style of Offenbach. Die schöne Galathée was Franz von Suppé's first critical success.

The sculptor Pygmalion has fallen madly in love with his statue of Galathée and accordingly does not want to sell it to Mydas, a patron of the arts. Instead he prays to Venus, the goddess of the love, that the statue be brought to life. The wish is granted but Galathée turns out to be a very independent-minded creature. She is unfaithful to Pygmalion with his servant Ganymed (because he is much more pleasing to her than Pygmalion) and does not reject Mydas, who offers her jewelry. When Pygmalion catches Galathée in a compromising situation, he successfully implores Venus to turn her back into stone. The jewelry offered by Mydas is also turned into stone, but the whole statue is sold to him.

Composed by LINCOLN BRADY. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,World. Individual part. 9 pages. LINCOLN BRADY #1985881. Published by LINCOLN BRADY (A0.802998).

Inspired by the true story of the ancient greek statue - 'DANCING SATYR' (in Mazara del Vallo) - discovered by fishermen off the coast of Sicily in 1998 after having lain on the Mediterranean ocean floor for over 2,000 years. Following five years of careful refurbishment in Rome's 'Istituto Centrale per il Restauro' this amazing bronze statue, probably from the school of Praxiteles, was restored almost to its former glory with its head and torso remaining largely intact, incredibly! The 'Dancing Satyr' was then taken on a global tour, including Japan and the Louvre in Paris, where it drew very large crowds capturing the world's imagination. It is now housed in a purpose-built museum in Sicily - 'Museo del Satiro'. The first movement - INTRODUZIONE - begins in a neo-Italian Baroque style , with ancient undertones, in homage to the statue's current home where it has received great care and attention. The music then proceeds in a more modern and programmatic vein conjuring the disastrous sinking of the ship carrying this masterpiece in ancient times and its loss to the inky depths below. The second movement - DANZA - is much lighter in mood celebrating its recovery and conveying the joyous expression of the 'Dancing Satyr' with its arched back and head thrown back in ecstatic abandonment, brilliantly portrayed by its original sculptor. Here the musical language is more influenced by the rhythms of Greek folk music while incorporating modern guitar idioms and harmonic concepts as in the first movement.

The Statue of Liberty, with its famous inscription of Emma Lazarus’ poem The New Colossus, is the inspiration behind the choral work, Mother of Exiles. Eleven of the sonnet's fourteen lines have been set for SATB a capella choir, (with some doubling), including the familiar Give me your tired, your poor, section. When the text refers to the Statue as Mother of Exiles, sixteen foreign language translations of that title are overlapped in layers of increasing rhythmic complexity.  The music contrasts sections of taut dissonance between expansive phrases of harmonious warmth.  Mother of Exiles is a perfect vehicle for high school, college and professional choirs seeking an inspirational anthem of compassion in times of need.

“The river flows through me, like the blood of my people. Above the river I will standâ€.

High above the banks of the Rock River in Oregon, Illinois, stands an impressive 48-foot-tall statue created by famed artist Lorado Taft. The official name is The Eternal Indian, but it is known to local folk as Black Hawk. It stands “proud and strong†as a tribute to the Native Tribes who flourished in the area before settlers occupied the region.

This original song by John Meola Lindhorst pays homage to those tribes. The story is told through three poignant verses, written from the statue’s perspective. The opening lines: “I have stood for many years, as a constant reminder, of the strength of my tribe. I have shed a thousand tears, for the loss of a nation, and the killing of our pride:†introduces the theme and sets the tone for your impactful vocal performance. The second verse tells the heart of the story. The final verse: “I will stand her forever and I’ll stand proud and strong, I will fly with the eagle, and I will soar beyond the stars.†closes the song with a feeling of hope.

The powerful chorus drives home the emotional message. Your audience will be deeply moved by your performance of this song.

This song is suitable for singers of any genre. It can be interpreted as Pop, Broadway Ballad, Country or Folk.

SKU: A0.787256

Composed by Greg Bartholomew. Concert,Contemporary,Holiday,Patriotic. Octavo. 12 pages. Burke & Bagley #49733. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787256).

The Promise of Liberty, available for either SATB or unison/2-part treble choir with optional guitar or piano accompaniment, is an adaptation of the sonnet The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus (1883). The sonnet was written to raise money for the construction of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal and has graced the entrance to the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor since 1945. The chorus for this work is adapted from the Lazarus poem, while the verses are new text written by the composer.

Duration ca. 3 minutes.

The Promise of Liberty

Winds blow fierce and foul storms rage.
Safe shelter seems a hopeless dream.
But in the dark a promise beams, a beacon to a golden age.

[Chorus] Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
Give me the wretched from your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

So cries the strong heroic woman, raising her arm to light the way.
Her words ring out from day to day to greet each wave of immigrants.

[Repeat chorus]

Some crossed the sea in a tempest squall.
More came by land up the hemisphere.
Still there's room for everyone here.
The promise of liberty welcomes all.

[Repeat chorus]

Winds still blow and storms still threaten the shelter we build in this new land.
But here we weave a fabric grand
Made strong from many colored threads.

[Repeat chorus].
