A collection of 120 drum set exercises designed to help the beginning to intermediate drummer develop coordination, independence and accompanying skills between the snare and bass drum while keeping steady jazz time on the ride cymbal. The play-along tracks will help students develop the ability to recognize the 12-bar blues and 32-bar AABA form, two of the most popular song forms in jazz music. Practicing with the tracks will also help you develop better clock time and should inspire some creative interaction with the recorded music. Exercises include patterns using quarter notes, quarter and eighth note combinations, and triplets and other combinations. The 32-bar AABA song form is practiced with and without drums, and at slow and fast tempos with a bass track. The 12-bar blues form is practiced with various combinations including drums, bass, both, or neither. All tempos from the audio are indicated in the book. Written for the 2022 Aspire performance at the River Arts Center in Prairie du Sac, WI, this piece is a reflection of the power of water to influence and guide you through life if you only list for it. An immensely Transformative piece, I delved into water themes in tempo and harmony. All the tempos are derivitives of 212 Degrees and the constant changing tempos are reminiscent of how the flow of water changes all the time. Harmonically, the key centers from Eb, to G, to B, are all connected to each other through common tones just like bodies of water are interconnected.

Performance Notes: Choose the waltz tempo of your choice - very relaxed to very lilting in 1.  Base your choice on being able to deliver the lyrics with great clarity, especially in the faster passages. Be sure to observe the accelerandos, broadening tempos, a tempos, legatos, and staccatos. They all have much to do with delivering the style of this piece, especially the off beat la-las. Some pairs are staccato, in other pairs, the first la is legato, the second la is staccato.

I originally composed this piece as a little warm up ditty for the chorus, but as I worked the melody and the harmony, it  grew into just a little bit more than a warm up exercise.. Think of the story behind the music as about a young lady who  just loves the waltz, and loves to sing and dance to its lilting triple time.  Her dancing partner is a dashing, ever so  handsome young man, who sweeps her off her feet and takes her breath away with his charm and grace, as they  float away on the wings of A Dance In Triple Time!   Anastasio Rossi May 2023

Mr. Trombonology is an example of a circus or screamer march. Circus marches are known for their fast tempos and melodies with big leaps, fast runs and audience-pleasing effects like trombone glissandos. Play this one as fast as your ensemble is able to keep it together!

I have included two versions of the fourth trombone part. One version is for bass trombone and the other is intended for f-attachment and straight tenor trombones.
