After a short planned tuning-break a sort of anti-climax is reached at the end, where all the building-up culminates in an almost sarcastic, morendo-like fadeout, marking the collapse of the poor soul that ultimately danced themself to death. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, tempos, and themes. Each part is of equal importance and each part independently adds to the stunning polyphonic weaving. Requires careful counting and close attention to rhythms, but sounds quite advanced and dramatic when all details are observed. There had been a 1934 film also titled Babes in Toyland starring Laurel and Hardy, and three television adaptations prior to the Disney film, but Disney's was only the second film version of the operetta released to movie theatres and the first in Technicolor. The plot, and in some cases the music, bear little resemblance to the original, as Disney had most of the lyrics rewritten and some of the song tempos drastically changed, including the memorable song Toyland, a slow ballad, which was sped up with only the chorus sung in a march-like rhythm.
