This small excerpt could easily be titled, A New Year's Wish for all Christians which I have humbly set to music.  I worked very hard to respect the cadence of the original work in creating a suitable melody.  Even so, I feel like the music and melody are simply riding on the coattails of this monumental work of literature.

Love is and was my Lord and King is a delightful miniature in neo-baroque style. It is relatively straightforward as long as the singers can keep up with the modulations. Crossing the bar is quiet and meditative, again relatively straightforward although it requires (ideally) basses able to sing down to a low D-flat. Of old sat Freedom on the heights is by far the most demanding of the three but also the most exhilarating if performed well, with a piano part that is cheerfully out of sync with the choir for much of the time.
