By The Champs. By Chuck Rio. Arranged by David McKeown. Contemporary,Latin,Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 29 pages. David McKeown #4580229. Published by David McKeown (A0.587615).
Tequila was a surprise No.1 hit for The Champs in 1958 but was originally a filler track recorded in three takes for a B side. In 1959 it became the first rock’n’roll tune to win a Grammy and has remained popular with party-goers ever since; all this despite having a one word lyric!
This version is a straightforward band arrangement scored for Rhythm Section, Eb and Bb Saxophones, Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet and Flute. Full score and all the individual parts are included in one PDF file. It suits players at an easy to intermediate standard and is guaranteed to be popular with young and old. The arrangement is designed to be flexible as not all instruments need to be present. Once the rhythm section is playing the main riff convincingly the rest of the band will start to play with confidence. This version is equally ideal for school bands and professional bands looking to add a big dancefloor favourite to their repertoire.
The overall performance time is three to four minutes, depending on tempo.
