Mosaics and Images were begun after a reunion trip to Washington, DC. Mosaics recalls the jazz music of Miles Davis I would listen to it on hot summer evenings with the windows open. The Sketches of Spain album.  Later I visited Barcelona the home of bothGaudi and Picasso. Images must have been a premonition. It was only after I saw the exquisite stained glass windows of the Gaudi Sagrada Familia that I was able to complete this movement. Patterns is just that. Changing patterns in my own fashion. A colleague suggested substituting a fourth marimba for second xylophone in this movement to provide a more mellow texture.

Vom American Film Institute wurde das Lied 2004 auf Platz 3 in die Liste der 100 besten US-amerikanischen Filmsongs gewählt.Das Lied wurde für die Kalimba mit 17 Stimmzungen adaptiert und mit Stimmzungenzahlen / Symbolen versehen Diese Symbole werden im Anhang kurz erklärt und sind auch auf den meisten Kalimbas ersichtlich. Die klassische Notenschrift und/oder der Liedtext helfen beim Erarbeiten des Liedes, sodaß auch Noten-Unkundige mit diesem Arrangement das Lied spielen lernen können. In der Vertonung wurde der Sound eines Vibraphones verwendet, so vermischt sich der Klang nicht mit dem Klang des eigenen Instrumentes. Hinterlegt ist die Melodie mit einem Metronom sowie leise mit einer Orgel. Wir wünschen viel Spaß beim Musizieren...!
