Baritone Saxophone,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548665 Composed by James Pierpont. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas. Score and part. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #3408945. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548665). Jingle Bells arranged for baritone sax & piano. Score: 3pg. part: 1pg. piano 3 pg. Jingle Bells is perhaps the most famous songs in American music history. James L. Pierpont published the song as One Horse Open Sleigh in the late 1850’s. Since its introduction, people began to insist that Pierpont wrote it for a Sunday school choir. However, it seems unlikely that such a secular song would be considered appropriate during that historical period for Sunday school.Christmas Repertoire Pierpont wrote the song for the Thanksgiving holidays, but over time people began to think of it more as a Christmas song. Some choirs adopted it as part of their Christmas repertoire in the 1860s and 1870s. Jingle Bells was first recorded in 1889 on a wax cylinder. Origins No one knows where Pierpont composed the song. One theory suggests he wrote it in Medford Massachusetts in 1850. Sleigh races were certainly popular in 19th Century Massachusetts. To this day, a commemorative placard appears in Medford square claiming that it is the birthplace of Jingle Bells. Others suggest that he wrote it in Savannah, Georgia where he was an organist and music director at the Unitarian Church. This theory gains support from the copyright date of 1857. We know he was living in Savannah by then. Traffic Signals Horse-drawn sleighs are relatively quiet in the snow. Consequently, horses were usually equipped with bell-laden straps so as to avoid accidents at blind intersections. Sleigh drivers in 19th Century New England were constantly vigilant, listening for the sounds of approaching horse-drawn sleighs. The tune imitates the rhythm that the trotting horse bells produce. Social Context Jingle Bells was sung as a drinking song at local revelries: during the song folks would rhythmically jangle the ice in their glasses. A sleigh ride gave couples an opportunity to be alone together. The term Jingle bells is a poetic descriptive adjective referring specifically to the more accurate term sleigh bells. In many arrangements, sleigh bells are used to accentuate the rhythm during the song chorus.  Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

String Ensemble,String Quintet Cello - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813978 Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 7 pages. Regis Bookshar #6635883. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813978). Violoncello Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This arrangement of Silent Night, or in German, Stille Nacht, would be a wonderful addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts, recitals, and, especially, church services. It is equally suitable for junior and senior high school students and even older musicians. Depending on their ability, younger musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (7 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Silent Night is probably the most popular Christmas carol ever written. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and was first performed on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a small village in present-day Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had written the poem, Stille Nacht, in 1816 and had gone to Oberndorf in 1817. The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. On Christmas Eve, 1818, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for that night's mass, after river flooding had possibly damaged the church organ. The church was eventually destroyed by repeated flooding and has since been replaced with the Silent-Night-Chapel.According to Gruber, Karl Mauracher, an organ builder who serviced the instrument at the Oberndorf church, was enamored with the song, and took the composition home with him to the Ziller Valley in Tyrol, Austria. From there, two traveling families of folk singers, the Strassers and the Rainers, included the tune in their shows. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. They also gave the first performance of the song in the United States in New York City in 1839. By the 1840's, the song was well known and was reported to be a favorite of Frederick William IV of Prussia. During this period, the melody changed slightly to become the version that is commonly heard today. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby, or pastoral, differing slightly from Gruber's original which has a moderate tempo. The song has been translated into about 140 languages and has been recorded by many singers across many music genres. The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935, has sold over 10 million copies as a single. In this arrangement of Silent Night, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic form of this familiar Christmas carol, but has also included a descant during the third verse. Also, in addition to this version for a Violoncello Quintet, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. There are Quintets and Octets readily available for purchase. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of Silent Night will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998563 Composed by Julie Mandel. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Joopie Music #3533915. Published by Joopie Music (A0.998563). INTERVALS : 24 Works for Piano by Julie MandelA musician friend of mine once told me that her favorite songs were those that began with the jump of an octave. Like Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It got me to thinking about how the first two notes of any piece of music really set up what will follow. That octave jump, that interval, is only one of twenty-four possible intervals in a one-octave scale. That is to say, there are twenty-four different intervals with which to begin a piece of music. I have written these twenty-four pieces with the idea of having the first two notes of each of them start with a different interval.I’m delighted that pianists are starting to perform them in concert, and all 24 have been recorded by Hadassah Guttmann. The recording is widely available for purchase and download.Writing them has been like a series of adventures, each of which begins by taking the first two steps - and then discovering where they will lead. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I enjoyed writing them.Julie Mandel, composerwww.juliemandel.com

Some of the pieces are solo piano and others feature duets with Mitch Iimori on English horn, oboe, and guitar (but not all at the same time!). The two musicians are obviously exceptionally comfortable and in tune with each other, and the results can be stunning. Very classical in scope and structure, the music is reflective of the natural surroundings of Ms Stevens’ home in the Colombia Gorge region of northern Oregon. The first eight of the fourteen tracks make up the Seasons Suite, a group of lyrical compositions inspired by the various times of year in a remote area of eastern Oregon. The other six pieces also have themes of nature and serenity. The Seasons Suite begins with Colors Change, obviously about the transition of summer into fall, but also about the concept of change as we grow. Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling in the ceaseless wind of that area. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing! In Clouds, Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot! Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite. On Summit, Iimori trades his woodwinds for guitar in a gentle, sweeping duet with the piano. Waning Star is a gorgeous piano solo that has a peaceful grace and quiet serenity - a favorite. Reach For the Stars is a piano solo that has an uplifting sense of moving forward and reaching out. Dawn closes the CD with a warm and soothing confection. The piano is accompanied by light percussion, bass, and washes of synth strings. Full of hope and optimism without being sugarcoated, this piece is spellbinding in its gentle way.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1394423 Composed by Jay Dougherty. 21st Century,A Cappella,Chamber,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 4 pages. Jay Dougherty #977907. Published by Jay Dougherty (A0.1394423). Despondency by Jay Dougherty explores the depths of human emotion, expressing profound feelings of pain, anguish, and desolation. Through the utilization of the overtone series, “Despondency†portrays a haunting soundscape that gradually builds into a solemn tone cluster, evoking a sense of emptiness and sadness. The overtone series serves as the foundation upon which the composition unfolds, weaving together a tapestry of natural harmonies that resonate with an ethereal quality. Despite the simplicity of its text, consisting of only four sung words – Nothing. Aching. Empty. Broken. – these words reflect the raw and unfiltered experience of despair and sorrow. “Despondency†is movement 3 of Jay Dougherty’s Phoenix Cantata, which is a six-movement vocal and piano work that explores the themes of resilience and the transformative power of change. The music and lyrics are the creative work of Dr. Jay Dougherty, with a piano accompaniment by Justin La. Drawing inspiration from the mythical symbolism of the phoenix, this cantata narrates the journey through life's challenges and tribulations and explores how we can learn to comprehend, embrace, and grow from them. Although the Phoenix is not explicitly mentioned, the underlying message resonates with the tale of the phoenix: after facing adversity or transformation, we emerge stronger and more beautiful. Each of the 6 movements centers on a flower garden, the gardener's affection for the garden, the looming storm that could devastate it, and the gardener's eventual realization that, even after the storm, the garden remains beautiful and precious. Movement 3, Despondency, is performed a cappella and makes use of the overtone series and chord clusters to convey the gardener's torment and heartbreak as the garden has lost its innocence after a torrential storm. It is a heartbreaking lament that portrays the gardener's profound sorrow.About the ComposerDr. Jay Dougherty is the Performing Arts Department Chair and Director of Choral Activities at Drury University in Springfield, MO.For more information on compositions and arrangements by Jay Dougherty, visit: www.jmdougherty.comPlease purchase one copy for each performer.

Full scoreProgram note:There is a famous photograph that Ruth Orkin took of a young American girl strolling in a street in Florence surrounded by ogling Italian men catcalling. She blithely went on her way, completely ignoring them***. It is such an iconic photo that I was inspired to write my 19th string quartet in honor of Miss Orkin's photograph. After some research I discovered that the girl in the photograph has a made-up name of Jinx Allen. Her real name is Ninalee Craig. Ruth Orkin befriended this young American compatriot and ended shooting a ton of photographs of her in that city. I decided that these exquisite photographs would become the titles of the movements for the string quartet. I. The photograph is not a symbol of harassment. It's a symbol of a woman having an absolutely wonderful time! She has also noted that Italian men are very appreciative, and it's nice to be appreciated. English Horn,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548716 Composed by Martin Luther. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Instructional,Standards. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411745. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548716). Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther. The first verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Features the entire range of the instrument. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 3 pg. Solo part: 1 pg. The piano reads from the score. Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics, essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed pieces, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger. Luther Background Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music. Influence It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works. Legacy The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

Choral Choir,Choral,SAB Chorus - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1451983 Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #1031300. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1451983). Written by Henry Williams Baker (1821-1877) and titled “The Lord Shall Give His People the Blessing of Peace,” the text of “O God of Love, Give Peace Again” was published in the 1861 edition of the landmark English hymnal, Hymns Ancient and Modern. Baker, who is perhaps best remembered for his hymn “The King of Love My Shepherd Is,” was chairman of the committee that prepared that hymnal. Because war is a constant in the world, Baker's text is always relevant. Stanza 1 is an entreaty that God would “make wars throughout the world to cease.” Stanza 2 asks that God recall his “works of old,” for only by God's hand can peace be given again. Stanza 3 extends this thought by asking “Whom shall we trust but thee, O Lord? Where rest but on thy faithful word?” and noting that “none ever called on Thee in vain.” A fourth verse, omitted in some hymnals, ends on the hopeful note that as saints and angels are bound “in holy love,” so we might also be bound to them and to one another in love and peace. In this original setting of Baker’s text, stanza 1 is sung by unison voices, stanza 2 by unison women, stanza 3 by unison men, and stanza 4 in parts following a recapitulation of the introduction and a modulation to the relative major key.  ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). My Mother had some sad news to give me. Dad was very ill. My whole life flashed before me. My parents were always 200% supportive of all my artistic endeavors. None of my success would have been possible but for my Dad and Mom. My memories of my Dad and my Mom flooded my mind like a deluge. When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album. You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). This particular was created and produced after the Songs from My Soul album was sent for distribution. So, this song has yet to be officially released. All five movements will be released as an album Mourning in the Rain. This 5th movement Onward and Upward has a decisive emotional resolution and conviction in its pathos. The dynamics reflect accordingly ranging from mf to fff indicative of overcoming adversity and grief. Imagine overcoming despair, rising out of grief and depression and finally seeing the light of day - to join the ranks of the living and re-embracing life once again.Contact info: Tito AbeledaVisionary Quest Recordshttps://www.visionaryquestrecordsEmail: tito@visionaryquestrecords.comFollow Tito on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/titoabeledaTwitter:

Original work by Masakazu Yamamoto. The majestic figure of the many layers of mountains shows the heights of art that cannot catch up with humans who are small beings, and we are immediately fascinated by the beautifully drawn ridgeline. This composition has been created with the aim of painting expression, that based on the imagination that the mountain itself or something that lives there protects the mountain and its surroundings. The theme is the Holy-ghost dancing lightly, the vital energy of the animals and plants that live there, and the majesty of the mountains, and they appear colorfully in various ways, such as the free intertwining of each phrase and powerful grooves that combines a wide variety of rhythms. The song shows tranquility and freedom at the beginning. In the first half of main part, the light and rhythmic theme and the calm majestic theme depict the contrast of each scene. In the second half, the tempo changes intermittently and gradually uplifts, and eventually it makes a climax through the return of the subject. It was created as a commissioned work to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Kofu Citizen Concert Band. It premiered by the band in March 2018. Duration : 7 minutes around [Instrumentation]Piccolo Flutes 1, 2 Oboe Bassoon Bb Clarinets 1, 2, 3 Bb Bass Clarinet Eb Alto Saxophones 1, 2 Bb Tenor Saxophone Eb Baritone Saxophone Bb Trumpets 1, 2, 3 F Horns 1, 2 Trombones 1, 2, 3 Euphonium Tuba String Bass Timpani Percussion 1(Glockenspiel, Tubular-Bells, Xylophone) 2(Vibraphone, Marimba, Bass Drum, Wind-Chime) 3(Suspended cymbal, Sleigh-Bells, Triangle, Tambourine, Wind-Chime) 4(Tam-tam, Triangle, Crash Cymbals, Wind-Chime) Works For Concert Band Original Composition (Sheet Music Plus / Sheet Music Direct)Arrangement (Sheet Music Plus / Sheet Music Direct)----------------------------------------------------- Motch Music All Sheet Music (Sheet Music Plus / Sheet Music Direct)I have a wide selection of sheet music for various instruments such as piano, ensemble, and concert band. Harp - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942891 Composed by James W. Knox. Contemporary,World. Score. 9 pages. Knox Music #6599795. Published by Knox Music (A0.942891). On the Lake written for advanced SSAA divisi and harp. Fannie Isabelle Sherrick was an American poet who wrote songs and poems throughout the 1860's that captured hearts and minds. I Can Not Say the Sad Good-Bye was one of her notable songs published in 1873. She was both influenced and encouraged by Ella Wheeler Wilcox who she attributed her success to. Her most popular poetry volume entitled Love or Fame and Other Poems was published in 1880 by W.S Bryan of St Louis and she continued writing for many years.  ON THE LAKE There's a beautiful lake where the sun lies low, And the skies are warm with their summer glow; And a beautiful picture there I see Where the winds are warm and the waves are free, And the waves lie still in the sun As the flowers at night, when the day is done. You may sing of your silvery seas by night When the moon looks down with a dreamy light; And the stars shine out in the skies above Like the warm sweet gaze of the eyes of love; But the glow on the lake to-day Is a glory that never will fade away. The beautiful lake is a sea of gold And the beauty it wears will never grow old; The trees bend down in the sun's warm glow Till their branches meet in the waves below, And the clouds in the far-off skies Are mirrored anew where the sunlight lies. I love to float where the shadows lie 'Neath the matchless glow of the summer sky; And I love to dream that these waves of light Will never fade in the gloomy night: But I know that the things I love Are as far from my reach as the clouds above. Oh, the beautiful lake is a sea of gold And the beauty it wears will never grow old; The cloudlets of Heaven are mirrored there In a golden splendor so bright and fair That the soul is dazzled for aye By the beautiful light of this summer's day. Oh, I love to dream when this life is o'er We shall moor our boats near the golden shore; And our sorrows shall drift from us far away As the leaves that float in their idle play, And the waves shall smile in the sun When the night is over and life is done.  Fannie Isabelle Sherrick.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813986 Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 12 pages. Regis Bookshar #6636629. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813986). Euphonium Octet - Intermediate - Digital Download. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (12 pages). Also, in addition to this version for a Euphonium Octet, written in Treble Clef, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. There is also a version for a Euphonium Octet, written in Bass Clef, if you prefer.
