It is also a very populair Christmas song in The Netherlands (Midden in de Winternacht). I made an accessible Basse de Trompette over this beautiful melodie. However it’s written in C major however it requires some skills to play the solo with the left hand. A lovely tune as a prelude or any other occasion around Christmas. And of course, you can sing the the words on this one as well.

The opera was commissioned by the University of Edinburgh School of Chemistry to celebrate its Tercentenary year in 2013. The other characters in the opera are Chrissie Miller (a trailblazer for gender equality in the sciences) and James Kendall (an expert in chemical warfare). The opera received its premiere in the Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, Scotland on 24 October 2013 in a production supported by Scottish Opera and conducted by Derek Clark.This volume contains the complete libretto, introductory notes, and a performable piano/vocal reduction of the orchestral score.

It was first released on a charity album and included female backing vocals and a children’s choir. A pared back version was then released on the Beatles Let It Be album. I was inspired by but too late for the Space and Time themed RMIT Music concert, which happened to be on John Lennon’s birthday, and arranged the song for SAA voices, with the melody in an alto-friendly key, matching the CORP attendees at the time. The melody is faithful to the original recording, adds an accompanying “wah-wah� in the second verse, suggestive of the trippy guitar effect, and reinstates the female backing vocals in the third verse.

The opposite of firm footing, stability, taking a stand is vacillating between ideas or chasing numerous ideas. ♫ I pictured the wind scattering leaves and debris, but failing to budge heavy objects, anchored to the ground. ♫ Our culture bids us chase after status, power, money, pleasure, thrills … The problem, of course is that the shelf life of the satisfaction that these things brings is very short. Chasing after status, power, money, pleasure, thrills, etc. is like is like chasing the wind. ♫ Portraying chasing the wind allowed me to use some contemporary classical composition techniques such as polymeter, polytonality, and deliberate dissonance. The first theme suggests the futility and inevitable frustration of chasing the wind.
