The Hand of You is an arrangement of the 1920 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond.  The lyrics are a tender love story about how throughout our relationship everything is fine as long as I can touch the hand of you.  In order to emphasize this simple and powerful emotion, for the first verse I simplified the original ballad's thick chords into a more shaped and expressive two part writing, just single notes in each hand; then for the second verse I did a reharmonization of the melody, adding some simple harmony and octaves for the climax; then back to two part for a slower, softer ending.   I also wrote a new slow introductory section with my own lyrics and melody that is based on what follows.  An incredibly beautiful piece, this is perfect for any wedding today, whether vintage or modern.  4 page score; 2:15 minutesI have published it in 3 different vocal ranges on this site:  High - low E to high F; Medium - middle C to high D; Low - low A to high B.   The MP3 recording is of the Medium Voice version.  This piece is also found in my book, Vintage Wedding Songs, a collection of 5 songs which is also available on this site.

These preludes and fugues are based on the D.F.G. codes related to number series. They are not serial but move through various tonal centres creating a variety and vibrancy of piano sonority. They are dedicated to American concert pianist Beth Levin as a thank you for her premiere with Mezzo Soprano Emiley Howard of my Housman settings for Mezzo Soprano and Piano in 2011 They are the first volume of a series of four volumes of Preludes and Fugues on the DFG codes planned for 2014-15. This first volume starts with an easy prelude and fugue to range through to a virtuoso conclusion with the seventh prelude and fugue.

Rumor has it that this playground is haunted by some of the kids that used to come here all the time… Not really haunted in a scary way because they are kids. But their spirits live here and man are they energetic. All day, All night, shenanigans would happen here and yet, the police could never find any evidence. At this point, the police reports have to say something about ghosts considering they never have any evidence to give an account. The Graveyard Playground tells the tale of five kids whose spirits are confined to this playground.

The libretto is comprised of the insightful observations of a young Jewish boy—Abraham “Abramek” Koplowicz—who was trapped by the Nazis in the Lodz ghetto and who later died in Auschwitz. The libretto appears before each scene in the scores.This may be a relatively brief piece, but it is a major one for me and posthumously for the author. I am fortunate to be the only person given blanket gratis permission to set the words of Abraham Koplowicz to music. He composed a book of poetry, plays, and artwork while imprisoned in the Lodz Ghetto before perishing later in Auschwitz before he could become a Bar Mitzvah. The contents of that book are quite good, sophisticated for his age. Abraham's late half-brother, Eliezer Grynfeld—who found the book in the 1990s—and I eventually became good friends. The Pope once kissed Eliezer's hand. That is how highly regarded this collection is and, by some stroke of luck or fate, I have got exclusive musical rights to the book until it enters the public domain. In my settings of AT THE CLOTHING DEPARTMENT and TO GET A RATION, I combine the musical language of Schoenberg's A SURVIVOR FROM WARSAW very nearly with the instrumentation of Stravinsky's A SOLDIER'S TALE - only the percussion instruments differ. The musical language of these brief opera scenes is appropriately terse, very much in keeping with the oppressiveness of imprisonment. Please have a look and a listen.
