All arrangements are by me. Some of the songs have different lyrics as the melody doesn't have copyright but the lyrics do. Angels are mentioned in every song in this cantata. There are lots of moving parts in each of the songs where the melody is traded around to the different parts. Harmonies, echoes, etc. are all throughout the song as well. War, by its nature, claims the lives of those who enter it, and over the course of history, many have fallen in the service of their countries who have gone to war for one reason or another. Fanfare for the Fallen seeks to honor those who have fallen in service and conjure the image of them marching into their glorious afterlife. Christianity holds that there is no greater love than laying down one's life for another, and many cultures believe that dying in battle yields glory in the great beyond. So whether marching into heaven, Valhalla or some other bright light at the end of the tunnel, let this music provide the soundtrack of trumpeting angels and one last ticker tape parade as these warriors are welcomed into their eternal home.

This is a piece of intermediate difficulty with a nice melody and a John Williams' Olympic Fanfare feel to it. While the trumpets soar in their high registers for the heralding sections, the range for the rest of the piece (and the rest of the band) stays mostly in the center of the instruments. While 32nd notes are found here and there, the tempo sitting at around 80 keeps their difficulty, as well as the 16th note woodwind runs, in check.

The best-known version is that recorded by American duo the Carpenters for their second studio album Close to You (1970) and produced by Jack Daugherty. Released on May 14, 1970, the single topped both the US Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. It also reached the top of the Canadian and Australian charts and peaked at number six on the charts of both the UK and Ireland. The interesting and easy play on the word gloria between triple and duple meters lends a feeling of a multiple angelic host. The final section of the piece moves from F minor to F major and closes with a 3 against 2 (hemiola) ending. The Angels announcing the birth of a King sang Gloria, sang Gloria. Then let us rejoice with the Angels and sing Gloria, gloria, gloria. The Shepherds then keeping their flocks in the night, heard Gloria, heard Gloria. An Angel then spoke of the wondrous birth, sang Gloria, gloria, gloria. The Angels saw Him robed in flesh,this Prince of Peace and Righteousness. Upon the manger they did see our Lord the Incarnate Deity. The Angels announcing the Lord of the Earth sang Gloria. sang Gloria.
