Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811250). The Severn Suite (Op.87) was composed by Elgar when he was 73 as a test piece for the 1930 British National Brass Band Championships. Elgar dedicated it to his friend, the author, and critic George Bernard Shaw. Some critics consider the Severn Suite to be Elgar’s best work in his later years, arguing that is a neglected masterpiece. The work is very Elgarian in the high Romantic style. It is fine music originally composed for brass by a famous acknowledged master that will be enjoyable for players and audiences alike.The duration of the full piece is around 16:30 and includes five movements, that follow each other without breaks: 1) Introduction (Worcester Castle) – Pomposo (2:10), 2) Toccata (the Tournament Grounds) - Allegro molto (4:20), 3) Fugue (The Cathedral) – Andante (3:00), 4) Minuet (in the Commandery) (5:00) – Moderato, and 5) Coda - Lento – Pomposo (2:00). The River Severn runs through the center of Worcester, England where Elgar spent his childhood and again lived in later life.This work beautifully arranged by Mark LaFratta for standard brass quintet (2 Trumpets in B-flat, Horn, Trombone in bass clef and Tuba) is appropriate for advanced performers and may be performed by all conical instruments as well (Cornets, Horn, Euphonium, and Tuba).

The tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet dates from before Shakespeare's 1597 dramatic play. Since then, the story has been adapted for opera, musicals, and film. In the late 1870's Tchaikovsky toyed with the idea of an opera. He completed a Fantasy Overture, and later on, sketched the Duet between the two lovers. A tragedy in itself, Tchaikovsky never finished his opera. Almost 100 years later, Franco Zeffirelli directed a film version where Giovanni Rota Rinaldi (Nino Rota) created the musical score in 1968. The most notable segment is the Love Theme sung by the troubadour during the masked ball where Romeo and Juliet first meet.This setting is based on the timeless innocence of Rinaldi's writing of the Love Theme and makes reference to the passionate duet of Tchaikovksy, with Juliet played by the Tenor Horn and Romeo by the Euphonium. As Shakespeare wrote in Twelfth Night, if music be the food of love, play on!Scored for the smaller British Brass Band with a minimum of 9 parts up to full band.  Duration ~4:25. 40 Pages.

John Lennon wrote Now and Then in the late 1970s, and recorded a demo in 1977 at his home at The Dakota in New York City. The lyrics are typical of the apologetic love songs that Lennon wrote in the latter half of his career. For the most part, the verses are nearly complete, though there are still a few lines that Lennon did not flesh out on the demo tape performance. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Stephen Thomas Erlewine called Lennon's composition a wispy, melancholy ballad, while Billboard's Kyle Denis described the song as a lovelorn guitar-centric rock ballad. This arrangement follows closely to the authorised version played by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr  and friends,  and will be a great addition to the Brass Band Library.

This is a tonal composition, a theme and variations based on the tune O Worship The King. The tune was composed by Sir Robert Grant (1779–1838), a British lawyer and politician. He was the author of a volume of sacred poems, which was edited and published after his death by his brother, Lord Glenelg. This volume includes some hymns, of which the best known is O Worship the King, based on Psalm 104.Includes parts for Bb bass clarinet and piano. My completion of Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (Unfinished) brings to life the tantalizing fragments he left for the third and fourth movements. The third movement follows closely Schubert's surviving short score, where his intricate melodic ideas are expanded with a full orchestration that honors his harmonic language. This movement, true to Schubert’s symphonic style, carries a lively yet graceful energy, interspersed with contrasting themes that reflect both joy and contemplation.The fourth movement begins with a nod to Schubert’s Rosamunde Overture, seamlessly transitioning from the grandeur of the third movement. Drawing from the overture’s distinctive opening, I introduce a bold and majestic theme that acts as a foundation for the final movement. From here, the symphony unfolds into a dramatic and richly textured conclusion. My aim in this movement was to capture Schubert’s gift for lyrical, expansive melody while incorporating the dynamic tension and rhythmic drive that characterizes his symphonic writing.Throughout the fourth movement, I intertwine moments of serene beauty with powerful orchestral climaxes, echoing the drama of the symphony’s first movement. The use of Schubert’s melodic genius is central to this completion, with soaring strings and resonant winds building to a thrilling finale. The symphony concludes with a recapitulation of the opening theme from the first movement, bringing a sense of unity and closure to the entire work.The entire symphony, now lasting 50 minutes, forms a cohesive continuation of Schubert's original vision. This completion fills the second half of the concert program, offering a balanced and dramatic conclusion to the work Schubert began but never had the chance to finish.
