SKU: A0.958083

Composed by Unknown Traditional folk songs. Arranged by David Berlin (ASCAP). Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 96 pages. David Berlin #3559075. Published by David Berlin (A0.958083).

This collection of folk melodies from Ireland can be studied independently or in a variety of groupings. While created in open scoring for beginning and young instrumentalists, these pieces could be used by anyone. They are accessible with as few as two players and as many as are available in almost any combination of instruments. The folk melodies are also excellent to use as warm-ups because they can serve the purpose while also providing aesthetic value.

The teacher is encouraged to be flexible and creative with them. Directors are encouraged to perform these in various combinations and sets. Feel free to be creative. For example, repeats could be added featuring various soloists and/or small groupings in contrast with the full group (as in a concerto.) Creativity could be promoted by allowing students to make suggestions pertaining to the formal organization of the material. In addition to decisions as to which pieces to perform directors are encouraged to involve students in making creative decisions such as which ones to put together, which phrases to repeat in various combinations and instrumental subsets and other appropriate aesthetic decisions. Each piece could function as a locus for branching into various content areas in connection with social studies, integrated curriculum and/or inquiry. Many of the melodies have very smooth and conjunct voice leading making them excellent for solfege/sight-reading training. These melodies are offered as a resource for the teacher to use in a variety of ways and possibilities are unlimited. Lyrics are readily available online.

Composed by Todor Skalovski (1909-2004). Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contemporary. Score and parts. 34 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3517489. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522152).

North Macedonia (known as Macedonia before February 2019), officially the Republic of North Macedonia, is a country in Southeast Europe. It gained independence in 1991 as one of the successor states of Yugoslavia. It is a landlocked country bordering Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. Both the music and lyrics date from the early 1940s. The music was composed by Todor Skalovski, one of Macedonia's most distinguished composers who also served as the conductor of its opera. The title means “Today over Macedonia†(is born the new sun of liberty…†This quick and easy national anthem arrangement is essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental and school groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. This arrangement is convenient to use and you can play it with any virtually any combination of conventional instruments found in the band or orchestra. The arrangement can be used with symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! The score and parts are presented in a single 34-page PDF file. This arrangement is in six independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you will need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick and mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. The following parts are available: Part 1 in B flat, E flat and C; Part 1a in C (8ve higher), E flat (minor 3rd lower for E flat cornet); Part 2 in B flat, E flat and C; Part 2a in C, (8ve higher) E flat (minor 3rd lower for alto clarinet); Part 3 in B flat, E flat, C and F; Part 3a in B flat (8ve lower for 3rd clarinets); Part 4 in B flat, E flat, C and F; Part 5 in B flat and C: Part 6 in B flat, C and E flat. There are also parts for timpani, percussion (2-3 players) and a piano reduction.

Composed by Peter Boris Koval. Arranged by Peter Boris Koval. 20th Century,March. Score and Parts. 144 pages. Peter Boris Koval #883172. Published by Peter Boris Koval (A0.1299696).

The piece is lighthearted and the florid melodies show off the soloist to full advantage. The solo passages are lightly accompanied, but the interludes  allow the rest of the band to shine. The piece was originally presented in an arrangement for solo tuba and concert band, and the title was chosen as a humorous antithesis of the character of the piece. Ponderosa means ponderous , but the work is light and flowing. Thusit ably lends itself to the repertory of the E flat clarinet. (In actual fact the piece was originally written as a brass band cornet solo many years ago without any title at that time).
The work is also available on ArrangMe in A4 size, with extra transposed parts for European style bands.

Composed by Clive Longhurst. March. 61 pages. Clive Longhurst #931156. Published by Clive Longhurst (A0.1346333).

I wrote this march over 12 years ago, when I was first getting into composing/arranging, and it was rather too 'busy'. Too many musicians doing too much. So I had another look and made it more playable by bands of a lesser technical aptitude.
It is dedicated to all the volunteers, who give up their time, to make the Royal British Legion the steadfast organisation it has become. They truly are the unsung heroes of the charity.
I hope this march pays them the compliment it is meant to. There will soon be a brass band version available.
Page 11 is a useful advice sheet for printing.
I hope your band enjoys playing it, be it on the march or a concert.

2nd edition - new and improved.

Volume 1 of our Patriotic collection contains four classic patriotic tunes and three complete Sousa marches. Altogether this has seven songs and over 14 minutes of music that both you and your audience are sure to love. Each song is also available separately from the publisher link above.

These arrangements can be played with anywhere from 3 to 7 parts, with a great deal of flexibility in instrumentation. This makes it ideal for bands of all types (school, community, or professional). This is one of the most versatile collections you'll ever use!

The songs included in Volume 1 are:
The Star-Spangled Banner (US National Anthem), by John Stafford Smith.
America the Beautiful, by Samuel Ward.

Stars and Stripes Forever, by John Philip Sousa.
Washington Post March, by John Philip Sousa.
Semper Fidelis, by John Philip Sousa.

Each song is in its original key, so it is easy to combine these with your own choir or piano/organ parts. The difficulty level ranges from medium-easy to medium-advanced. The arrangements respect the original style of the composers while greatly expanding the instrument flexibility.

This collection contains a full score, as well as individual parts in all the appropriate clefs and transpositions to support the following ensembles:

By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Septimus Winter. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Folk. Score and parts. 54 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #3566019. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818257).

Abraham’s Daughter: March from the Civil War ♫ by Septimus Winter (1861) ♫ with When Johnny Comes Marching Home by Patrick Gilmore a.k.a. Louis Lambert (1863). ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ After a family trip to Gettysburg, Antietam, Harper’s Ferry, and Ford Theater, I created a concert band arrangement to solidify the trip in my mind using a popular Civil War song from the North, “Abraham’s Daughter,†and a song used by both North and South, “Johnny Comes Marching Home.†♫ Music was a means for soldiers to release the tensions of war. By December 1861 the Union army had 28,000 musicians in 618 bands, not counting soldiers who travelled with violins and other musical instruments. Soldiers often sang as they marched by day and at night in camp. Musical duels were not uncommon between Union and Confederate bands. This idea inspired the last section of the arranger where the 2 songs are played against each other. ♫ Septimus Winner wrote “Abraham’s Daughter†in 1861 for the Minstrel stage. “Abraham’s Daughter†pictures a fresh recruit that is on his way to Washington DC to be processed and trained for future battles. ♫ Given the unpublished verses we have, Abraham’s Daughter was undoubtedly sung and embellished by Union soldiers as they travelled from battlefield to battlefield. ♫ Winner is also known for writing “Ten Little Injuns†“Listen to the Mockingbird†and “Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?†♫ Abraham Lincoln had 4 sons, Robert Todd, Edward Baker, William Wallace, and Thomas (Tad); but no daughters. So, who is Abraham’s daughter? ♫ Oh! Should you ask me who she am, Columbia is her name, sir; She is the child of Abraham, Or Uncle Sam, the same, sir. Now if I fight, why ain't I right? And don't you think I oughter. The volunteers are a-pouring in From every loyal quarter, And I'm goin' down to Washington To fight for Abraham's daughter. ♫ At the beginning of the war, the majority of soldiers, North and South, were fighting to uphold their view of government, each side justifying its position by quoting the Constitution. Southern States saw each State as a sovereign, independent nation. Abraham Lincoln insisted that the United States were one nation. For Abraham Lincoln, the purpose of the war was to preserve the Union. The undivided union was Lincoln’s daughter. ♫ arrangement © 2000, 2013 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ recording ℗ 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ sequenced by the arranger ♫ Purchase price includes permission to make photocopies of parts and additional scores for a medium size school band. ♫ This .pdf file includes 1) Condensed Conductor’s Score 2) Individual parts for: Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet 1, Clarinet 2, Alto Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Bassoon, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Treble Clef Baritone, Tuba, Electric Bass, Snare and Bass Drums, Cymbals, and Bells. 3) Condensed Conductor’s Score in a smaller format for use in a 10 inch tablet 4) The same parts formatted for a 10 inch tablet. ♫ The YouTube video contains a full recording.

Now and Then is a ballad that John Lennon wrote and recorded around 1977 as a solo home demo but left unfinished.
After Lennon's death in 1980, the song was considered as a potential third Beatles reunion single for their 1995–1996 retrospective project The Beatles Anthology.
Instead, it was shelved for nearly three decades, until it was completed by his surviving bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, using overdubs and guitar tracks by George Harrison (who died in 2001) from the abandoned 1995 sessions. The final version features additional lyrics by McCartney.
Lennon's voice was extracted from the demo using the machine-learning-assisted audio restoration technology commissioned by Peter Jackson for his 2021 documentary The Beatles: Get Back.
The song has been released on 2 November 2023 on a double A-side single, paired with a new stereo remix of the band's first single, Love Me Do (1962).
Both songs were included on the expanded re-issues of the 1973 compilations 1962–1966 and 1967–1970, released on 10 November 2023.
It topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Austria, and reached the top ten in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.

1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments

If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake!

The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!

I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.

As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.

·     Choose a tempo.

·     Choose a dynamic.

·     Choose an articulation/style.

One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.

Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.

If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.

The variations are endless!

If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys.

All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!

Enjoy!

BLUEY FOR BEGINNING BAND!

The original Bluey Theme uses a 3-2 clave rhythm for the entire song. This two-measure pattern ends differently every other time, creating a four-measure pattern that occurs throughout and never changes! All students (except the shaker) play this pattern at the very beginning, establishing the basis for the entire arrangement.

Only six notes are used. Students’ familiarity with the music will be an asset as they tackle a melody that may be a new challenge to them. With this in mind, the melody is always doubled or cued elsewhere; no section will ever have to play it alone.

There are four opportunities for either a soloist or a soli of any combination! These occur at bars 21, 25, 49 and 53.  Have fun with these spots, giving everyone an opportunity. It will, of course, need to be mapped out for a performance.

Students will shout the Bluey characters’ names just like the show’s theme. There is one spot to insert a name of your choosing - a student, teacher, administrator, family member, or pet! Alternatively, you can replace any of the character’s names to truly personalize the song.

I hope you and your students enjoy learning and performing Bluey!
