This work is comprised of three series, each series contains four issues. It may be performed in a number of different ways; each issue or series may be performed separately or, the entire work, consisting of twelve issues and a Prologue, may be performed as a whole. In its entirety, the running time of Strange Myths and Wondrous Images is approximately forty-five minutes. Each issue represents an element: either an archetype, place, or an emotion, commonly found in comic book stories. As a whole, Strange Myths and Wondrous Images tells a particular story arc, one that is intentionally void of specific details, inviting the listener to imagine the particulars. Each series also contains its own sub-plot and emotional progression, while the formal structure suggests the traditional symphonic form. ​ Each issue has a duration of three to four minutes, limited to a small, but intensely expressive amount of thematic material. The challenge inherent in this limitation was to create enough contrast, yet not so much as to require more time to resolve it, therefore, each issue is self-contained. Destined to beginners,My FirstRock is an original work for beginning band, in a rock style. Built from a driving bass line and a rock pattern on the drums, the piece introduces the rest of the band with a simple and nice melody, using only the first notes. The central passage changes the mood, with sections playing one after another, building a nice chord. Then, the piece goes on with the return of the first material, ending with a subtile effect played by the woodwinds and brass, while the drumset brings some rhythmic motion. Let's Rock !

Composed for beginning band by Alexandre CARLIN. Grade 0.5 (1 for the drumset). Karl King was a founding member of the American Bandmasters Association and his marches are a significant part of American Band history. He also wrote in other genres of the era and this overture, with its stylistically different sections was very popular. Tales From The Northern Woods tells a story from the composer's daydream. As person who is born and raised in a big, metropolitan city, the composer wanted to tell a story of what it feels like to begin an adventure in the woods. An adventure of a peaceful life, a life that is neither caged nor surrounded by the ‘concrete jungle’ in the big city, where there is only green. Miles of green, where a small village sits on the banks of the river, beautiful, idyllic, and lush. Somewhere that probably only exists in epic high-fantasy stories. Full of exciting and tense adventure. Tales From The Northern Woods is one of the three winners of the 5th Young Indonesian Composer Competition that was held on January 2022. Premiered by The Bandung Philharmonic on Chamber Music Konser Pemenang Kompetisi Komponis Muda Indonesia, 14 May 2022, at Auditorium Gedung PPAG UNPAR.

This transcription maintains the style and spirit of the original. Scoring is minimal under the soloist with cues for 3rd & 4th horn and other instruments that are less available. The Anzac Marseillaise is a battle song written A. J. Smith around 1915-16 dedicated to the ANZAC Heroes. Although not strictly in typical march format, it could be used as such or be used as an accompaniment to the vocal using the original words.

I was approached by Ron Bergman (ex-RAN Navy Reserve Band) to arrange this piece from an old copy of the original piano music he had for the use of the band at its reunion and get-together in February 2011.

This is the Concert Band version.- most parts are double A4 size. March Card sized parts are also now included as another PDF download.
