Choral Choir (4-Part) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1279926 By Ed Sheeran. By Benjamin Levin and Ed Sheeran. Arranged by Julian Hay. 21st Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Pop,Rock. Octavo. 8 pages. Julian Hay #871338. Published by Julian Hay (A0.1279926). This arrangement was commissioned for, and premiered by, Voices Co. Pop A Cappella Academy. It is versatile and catchy, and has been performed by our Vocal Bands as well as our larger ensembles. This arrangement has the drive and momentum of the original song but with delicate moments, and some 5-part harmony as the song progresses.Ā VOCAL LAYOUT:The melody, or lead line, is divided amongst the vocal parts to give variety. The B.G (background) parts replicate the instrumental accompaniment of the original track, filling out the arrangement and creating the contemporary texture that is at the heart of Pop A Cappella. When it's performed, it should be heavy on the rhythm and bass! The Rhythm (Beatbox) and Bass should be a feature, and they provide the arrangement with the groove and vibe it needs. The dynamics give an indication which vocal parts should be strongest at any given moment, but changes may need to be made depending on the number / balance of singers, and the strengths of each vocal section. As a general rule, the melody or lead should be strongest, followed by any harmony parts (those with lyrics), followed by any background parts (Oos / Ahs / Dms, etc). The full arrangement is scored for SSAB and Vocal Percussion (beatboxing). The song also works as SATB and could be transposed into lower key to help with some of the higher passages.RHYTHM and BASS:This Beatboxing part is suitable for moderate to advanced performers, and is scored used drum notation. Specific Beatboxing notes are included in their own section. If your ensemble is without a bass or a beatboxer you could consider the following options:- Use electric bass guitar playing the bass part- Use a drum kit or drum box (Cajon)- Use a piano to provide some simple background accompanimentPERSONAL ASSISTANCE:If you need any assistance please don't hesitate to get in touch with us directly, we'd be happy to reply to any questions via email, or you can also book in a 1:1 consultation between your M.D and Julian Hay, or a Zoom workshop with your ensemble for specific feedback:E. Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1130062 Composed by English Folk Song by way of American Appalachians. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Celtic,Children,Folk,Irish,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #730439. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1130062). The origins of this lullaby can be traced back to 15th-century England. Pioneers from the British Isles brought it with them to the American Appalachians. Written in three verses, its lyrics tell of four seemingly impossible gifts the singer gave my love. The first verse describes each gift: cherry that has no stone, a chicken that has no bone. a story that has no end and a baby with no cryin'. The second verse poses the riddle: how can such items exist? The third provides the answers: A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stone. A chicken when it's pippin', it has no bone. The story of I love you, it has no end. A baby when it's sleepin', has no cryin'. This Riddle Song has enjoyed somewhat of a revival since mid-20th century, making appearances in various movies, TV shows and recordings. In 1956, Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis adapted The Riddle Song tune, added an original bridge and created new lyrics; Johnny Mathis recorded it as The Twelfth of Never, giving the haunting melody probably its greatest surge in popularity. This arrangement is in G major and opens with an upbeat introduction. For the first statement of the melody, tempo slows and Trumpets alternate the lead. On the second time through, tempo speeds up slightly and tuba takes the lead. For the third, tempo is back to the opening speed and Horn in F plays the melody. On the fourth time through, Trumpets and Trombone frame the tune in a call-and-response form. In the fifth, Trombone takes the lead. In the sixth and final statement, Horn in F and Trombone play melody at half speed while Trumpets play a fairly complicated counterpoint (at what may seem like double speed!). This, until the last phrase (A baby when it's sleepin'), when the melody switches over to Trumpets and Trombone takes the counterpoint. Trumpet 1 plays its A above the staff a number of times. Tuba's lowest note is its F down below the staff. Otherwise, notes for all instruments are well within normal playing range. Because of the recommended tempo, the countermelody at measures 68-83 could be problematic for Trumpets and Trombone and may require a little extra work. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 42 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1303802 Composed by F. Leslie Smith. 21st Century,Chamber,Children,Historic,Multicultural,World. 77 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #893335. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1303802). Ā Ā Ā Ā  A song learned in primary school years and years ago had words something along the lines of the following:Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Oh!Ā  Iā€™m a young musician,Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  From distant lands I come.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Singing and playing,Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Ever Iā€™m straying.Ā Ā Ā Ā  Also known as ā€œI Am a Fine Musician,ā€ ā€œI Am a Gay Musicianā€ and perhaps other titles, that song is still around and has evolved into many different versions.Ā  The original was probably a German folk song from the early 1800s.Ā  As published in an 1889 collection of childrenā€™s songs, it bears the title, ā€œIch bin ein Musikant.ā€Ā  That translates as ā€œI am a musician.ā€Ā  In the lyrics the musician claims to be ā€œfrom Schwabenlandā€ (Swabia) and to play geige (violin: ā€œDide schum schum schumā€), flƶte (flute: ā€œPƤde wƤpp pƤpp pƤppā€) and basse (bass: ā€œDide schum schum schump, pƤde wƤpp pƤpp pƤpp).Ā  Later versions list the instruments played by the musician as bassoon, bells, clarinet, drum, guitar, piano, piccolo, triangle, trombone, trumpet, tuba, tympani, viola and just about every instrument and noisemaker you can think of. Ā Ā Ā Ā  Anyway, thatā€™s the tune on which ā€œThe Brass Playerā€ was built.Ā  But here, the musician is concerned only with brass.Ā  Which brass?Ā  Well, possibly trumpet.Ā  Or maybe horn in F.Ā  Or trombone.Ā  Or tuba.Ā  Or perhaps all four; certainly, all are featured in this piece.Ā Ā Ā Ā  ā€œThe Brass Playerā€ comprises four sections.Ā  The first is in the key of C major and is played at a moderate 2/4 tempo.Ā  After a brief Trumpet/Tuba ostinato, Trombone introduces the main theme.Ā  Other instruments join in and play around with a variation or two.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  The second section is a sweet, nostalgic rendition in 4/4 carried mainly by Horn in F, with help from Trumpets and Trombone.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  In section three, the mood changes radically.Ā  Time signature goes to 3/4; tempo speeds up to vivace and the key changes to B Minor.Ā  All five instruments participate, and some odd things take place rhythmically at I through K (measures 200 through 262), but Tuba seems to carry the melody most of the time.Ā Ā Ā Ā  Section four, in G Major, clips along at a fast 4/4 time.Ā  It returns to the main theme and (as in ā€œIch bin ein Musikantā€ and its multitudinous derivations) presents in call-and-response form.Ā  The first few measures are straight, but discord quickly creeps in.Ā  The melody begins to include smears, flutter tonguing and off-beat rhythmic figures.Ā  There is even a brief section in G Minor.Ā  Gradually, order and theme are restored and the piece ends in a glorious, upbeat statement.Ā Ā Ā Ā  This piece, completed in 2023, consists of 398 measures, a little over nine minutes in length.Ā  There are four changes of key and four changes of time signature.Ā  Trumpet 1ā€™s highest note is A above its staff; Tromboneā€™s is F above the staff.Ā  Trumpet 2 has a few G-below-its-staff notes.Ā Ā Ā Ā  The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.Ā  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.Ā  Contact him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.Ā  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808694 Composed by Alexander R. Reinagle (1799-1877). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Christian,Easter,Holiday,Sacred. Score and parts. 22 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #4798569. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808694).     British composer Alexander Robert Reinagle wrote this melody about 1836 and named it after the church where he was organist, Oxford's St. Peter-in-the-East. First published as a musical setting for Psalm 118, it was adapted to John Newtonā€™s How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds in 1861 and then to the hymn by John Oxenham (William A. Dunkerley), In Christ There Is No East or West, in the early 20th Century.    While some sources specify that the St. Peter melody should be played without any festive fanfares, this brass quintet version does contain a few ceremonial flourishes.    Most players will have little or no difficulty with this piece. The andante moderato tempo should be interpreted as somewhere in the vicinity of quarter note = 92. Most of the rhythm patterns involve quarter and eighth notes, with a few 16th-note passages scattered throughout. Trumpet 1ā€™s highest note is its high A; tubaā€™s lowest is G below the staff. Otherwise, the music remains well within the normal playing range of all instruments.     This arrangement was completed in 2019, and performance time runs about 4 minutes, 13 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.
