Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation was originally an unaccompanied plainsong melody, translated in 1851 by John Mason Neale from the second part of the Latin monastic hymn Urbs beata Jerusalem. It is now commonly sung to the tune of Westminster Abbey by Purcell and currently growing in popularity. A favorite of the British royal family, it has been performed at their marriage ceremonies and Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee and funeral service. This is an SAB (soprano, alto, baritone) Intermediate Choir arrangement with a piano accompaniment. A separate sheet is provided for the voices. A big, fun anthem for SATB choir and organ, this works its way up to two full verses of WESTMINSTER ABBEY, the last of which can use the congregation. All the celebratory bases are covered, from the organ fanfares and choir declamatory pronouncements, to the Alleluias which are between the verses and at the end of the piece. The choir parts are easy and the result is unrestrained joyfulness.

This concertato could also be used as a festive anthem for SATB and optional treble choir, since congregational participation is not essential. The tune WESTMINSTER ABBEY is scored for two trumpets, timpani, and organ. There is a short introduction made of melodic material not in the hymn tune (which is also used in between the phrases of stanza two and for interludes between verses). Stanza one begins in unison and finishes in four parts. Stanza two is unison treble (which can be children's choir or just soprano and alto voices). The introduction is heard again with trumpet fanfares as an interlude before the third stanza. Stanza three gives the melody to the first trumpet while the choir creatively harmonizes around it. A final interlude leads into the fourth stanza for unison with descant and trumpet fanfares.
Instrumental Parts include: Trumpets I and II in C and B-flat, Timpani.
